Under the current guidelines, men must wait three months after having oral or anal sex with another man. We appreciate this deferral can feel disappointing if you want to save lives. 2/3
I long for the day when faithful, monogamous same-sex relationships like mine are viewed by the medical community to be no more “risky” than those between heterosexuals couples.
Surely excluding participants on grounds of sexuality alone (cf sexual practice) is homophobic?

Can you post a link to the evidence that has informed this decision, taking account of prevalence of BBVs across population & what science has informed decision that abstention from sex is not required for heterosexual people considering donation & how that's been interpreted ?

It’s not disappointing it’s homophobic. This isn’t the age of the tainted blood scandal and all blood is tested for multiple diseases. Or are you telling people those tests are not accurate? And what about all the “straight” men having sex with men? Maybe you should restrict men.
@NHSBT
I don’t think ‘disappointing’ really covers it ..... frustrating, prejudiced and incomprehensible might also apply ..... what is the basis of the guidelines ?

It's not "disappointing", it's against WHO advice to take a risk based approach to ALL donors and just plain wrong. Surely asking about new partners and unprotected sex for everyone is the simple non- homophobic approach that would unlock 1000s of potential donors
