On my lunch break at the ER and reflecting about how hellish the Freeze was last year. When the temperatures drop, I think all of us feel a bit nervous. When it rains, we feel jumpy. It doesn’t have to be this way. 1/5
During the Freeze, the ER was more crowded than during Harvey. Patients needing dialysis, electricity, warmth packed into hallways and waiting rooms hoping none of us would get COVID on top of everything else. 2/5
I was grateful at least to be warm. My sister was at home under blankets. We were hearing of hospitals down the street who couldn’t flush toilets. Lobbyists and private interest sacrificed people for profits. My patients and coworkers bore the outcome. 3/5
I know how serious these problems are. They aren’t statistics to me. They are faces and names and stories and hugs and hands that I held and whispered prayers that live in my heart. 4/5
I show up for Texas. I show up for my patients, neighbors, and teammates, fueled by anger and love. That’s why I’m running for Texas State Senate. It doesn’t have to be this way.
Let’s make some real change. Together. We don’t have another choice. 5/5
