Cheney's closing is stunning: they think they have evidence of witness tampering and obstruction of justice.
There is an old maxim: it's never the crime, it's always the coverup.
Things went very badly for the former President today. My guess is that it will get worse from here
I never heard the President disparage our war dead or wounded. In fact, the exact opposite is true. I was with him at the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day invasion in Normandy....
My guess is that before this is over, we will be hearing testimony from Ornato, Engle, and Meadows.
This is explosive stuff. If Cassidy is making this up, they will need to say that. If she isn't they will have to corroborate.
I know her. I don't think she is lying.
When people ask me what I've been up to since I left DC, I tell them I've gone into health care. That's because for the last several months I've been a full time care giver for my dad.
He passed Friday from lung cancer.
Best job I ever had. He will be sorely missed.
Since the media has aready picked the next President, I doubt anyone cares that the President is now within 14,746 votes in AZ. At the current %, if there are 127,364+ ballots still out, he wins AZ.
A stunning 2 hours:
1)Trump knew the protesters had guns
2)He assaulted his own security team
3)There may be a line from ProudBoys to the WH
4)Top aides asked for pardons
5)The commission thinks they have evidence of witness tampering.
That is a very, very bad day for Trump.
Finally got through the NY AG complaint against Trump.
Let me get this straight: the AG is suing him for fraud... when he borrowed money...and then paid it back?
Seriously, who is the victim here? If the banks thought they had been defrauded, they could sue on their own.
Trump midterms: "232 wins and 22 losses."
The losses included Senate races in PA, AZ, NV, and NH. And governors in AZ, PA, and MI.
Wins included dog catcher in Pahrump, AZ.
Not the same thing. And people know it.
I think I just figured out why we are having an unannounced hearing: if the President knew the protesters had weapons, and still encouraged them to go to the Capitol, that is a serious problem.
Things just got a lot more interesting.
So, if the classified documents from Mar-a-Lago turn out to be from Crossfire Hurricane (the 2016 Russia hoax) and they exonerate Trump…what happens next?
Two things: 1) We need to litigate this election so that people know that the winner is really the winner; 2) If he loses -- which as I've pointed out here many times is still a long way from being determined -- the President will be Presidential.
Interesting...the Proud Boys moved toward the Capitol before the speech. That is the first time I have heard that. It raises the issue: how could Trump's speech "incite" them to go to the Capitol if they were already there?
The best thing
@realdonaldtrump
could do right now is to address the nation from the Oval Office and condemn the riots. A peaceful transition of power is essential to the country and needs to take place on 1/20.
The Press is going to focus on some sensational revelations from today: guns, grabbing a secret service agent, etc.
But the real bomb that got dropped was the implied charge of witness tampering.
If there is hard evidence, that is a serious problem for the former President.
I see Tony Fauci is retiring. Hard for me to see him in the fawning light the media does, ever since he told me to go on TV at the onset of COViD and tell people not to wear masks.
I hope
@RandPaul
gets a chance to dig deeper.
Two takes on the raid. It is either
1) The most egregious political hit job our government has ever undertaken against a politician in US history, or
2) Evidence of the most significant criminal investigation of a politician in US history.
The DOJ needs to show us which it is.
I resigned on the 6th. But I respect those who stayed --- Cippolone, Scalia, etc. -- over concerns about who might replace them. They were probably correct. Having Sidney Powell or Rudy Giuliani as White House Counsel, for example, would have made things even worse.
By the way...the fact that Cassidy is testifying raises an interesting question. She would be covered by the exact same levels of "executive privilege" as, say, Peter Navarro or Mark Meadows. If she can testify, then so can they.
Trump has now lost 4 races in Georgia in two years. One of his own and 3 by proxy. Similar stories in AZ and PA.
He has a swing-state problem for 2024 that is real.
Again: those who win primaries, and lose general elections, are still losers.
Donald Trump started his Administration being advised by the former CEO of Exxon and the former President of Goldman Sachs. He ended with Sidney Powell and Rudy Giuliani. That, by itself, speaks volumes.
My takeaway: the critical thing tonight was the video. Because as biased as the committee is -- and it absolutely is -- you cannot say the same thing about the video.
That video is where the President lost me. We don't "love" people who attack the Capitol to try to prevent the peaceful transfer of power.
And there is no way the "we love you" line was in the script prepared for the video.
Apparently a lot of folks didn't like my last post about Arizona, as this account was the target of at least a dozen hacking attempts overnight.
Always nice to know that simple, civil discourse is well-received by all. Not sure what I said that was so offensive.
As you all can probably imagine, I have seen more than my share of outrageous (and false) attacks on the President over the last few years. But this whole injured soldiers thing really, really pushes the envelope.
So, just to be clear:
Like I said on
@NewsNation
and
@BBCNews
several times today, Chris Christie brings a fascinating dynamic to the 2024 race.
For all of their attributes, neither DeSantis, Scott, Haley or Pence can go after Trump like this.
More importantly, Trump has never faced attacks like…
When a spoiled baby misbehaves, you send them to their room, not the White House. At his advanced age, it is time to give up hope that Trump will ever grow up. We need a leader, not a child.
@anth0nyjd
@RandPaul
I've heard that same explanation.
And I would have been happy to accept it, if he had shared it with the rest of the team.
You don't get to keep secrets like that to yourself when you are an advisor to the President.
Not your call to make.
Compelling testimony today regarding how Trump lost the election. Judging by the ratings (and FB comments) people who need to see that aren't watching.
If the Committee wants to change minds, they need to reach people who think Trump won.
That doesn't seem to be happening.
AZ update: Trump has closed to 16,952. And his % of outstanding ballots is holding near 56%. If there are more than 150,199 votes still to be counted, at this % he wins AZ. But under our constitution, TV networks decide who is President, so I assume it doesn't matter.
The other challengers would do well to stop attacking Trump, and just let
@GovChristie
do it.
He does it in a way others simply cannot.
This is the kind of approach that could cause Trump problems, especially in IA, NH and SC.
If you are afraid of a little booing, then you don’t belong in the White House. In fact, you don't belong in this race. I will never stop telling the truth.
Have to wonder what prompted this.
If you found that tweet “offensive” you should see some of the comments…
And thank you to Twitter for not cancelling me.
Ok...here is the point I raised at the first hearing...was there a direct line from the Proud Boys/Oath Keepers to the President? Sounds like the Commission is trying to make the connection via Stone/Flynn/Meadows.
First review of the affidavit: absolutely nothing on why the matter was so urgent to justify the raid, as opposed to a much less-intrusive subpoena. The document even states the MAL was closed and unlikely to be frequented by members of the public.
I disagree with
@RepDanBishop
on the Speaker vote, but I still like and respect him. And being mistreated like this by Fox is just wrong.
Makes you wonder how they got it so wrong. All they had to do was call him.
This is one of the reasons that I love
@RepNancyMace
“If gay couples want to be as happily or miserably married as straight couples, more power to them. Trust me, I’ve tried it more than once,” Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.), another yes, tweeted immediately after the vote.
Time for another
#doublestandardistheonlystandard
at the WaPo:
Can you imagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth if my wife got a gig like this while I was in the WH?
And can you imagine the WaPo "forgetting" that she was my wife?
Listening to
@RonDeSantis
(with a special guest appearance from
@RepThomasMassie
).
Just a fabulous discussion .... on substance.
It would be great if this is what politics and elections were all about.
Re: the Navarro memo...If you are getting your Constitutional and Election law advice from a guy that sells pillows and a trade advisor that has an imaginary friend (look it up) you are probably listening to the wrong people.
Hearing that Gaetz’s most recent demands are 1) a committee to investigate the FBI 2) to be led by him 3) with a budget separate from the Judiciary Committee.
Wonder if the NeverKevin group knew they signed up for the Matt Gaetz PR campaign.
Great line just now on the
@RonDeSantis
event, regarding Disney:
"The media and the left used to attack Republicans saying they were in the pocket of big corporations; now they are attacking them because they aren't."
And who is the someone else? The NeverKevin people have no idea. They have no plan. And they have no real reason to be doing this. Wonderful traits in lawmakers
We barely got through half the ballot before confirming that McCarthy is still well short of 218 votes.
My colleagues have made clear that our party deserves a new leader.
McCarthy should stand down and allow us to select someone else in the next ballot.
The best thing
@realdonaldtrump
could do right now is to address the nation from the Oval Office and condemn the riots. A peaceful transition of power is essential to the country and needs to take place on 1/20.
In the last roughly 36 hours, ≈223,000 late ballots have been counted in AZ. ≈55.8% of those have gone for DJT. If that % holds, and there are at least 178,399 votes still to be counted, Trump will win AZ.
At this point , it really should be McCarthy or nobody. If the GOP picks anyone other than KM — or more specifically anyone the NeverKevin folks approve of — then the extortion will have been rewarded and this will happen again and again and again.
Whether Trump grabbed the wheel or his USSS detail is irrelevant. His state of mind is what counts. Sgt. Robinson's testimony is critical. And effectively corroborates the general tenor of Cassidy Hutchinson's testimony, if not the specific details.
"We didn't sign up for what you saw yesterday...We signed up for making America great again, we signed up for lower taxes, less regulation, economic opportunity. The president has a long list of successes that we can all be proud of. But all of that went away yesterday....'"
Nice to see

In 2018 Katie Arrington lost SC-1 because she was unable to unite Republicans after a nasty primary. Sounds like she hasn't learned much from that.
If this is your response to someone supporting your GOP opponent, maybe politics isn't for you.
People know that I am no apologist for my ex-boss. But this NY decision is a joke. No victims. No money lost. No harm done. Every loan paid back. Some early. No one complaining except the Democrat party.
Trump Derangement Syndrome knows no limits.
If the Mar-a-Lago raid is really about documents, it makes me wonder if the local police can send the SWAT team to kick in your front door to get your overdue library books.
The government better have a better reason for this invasion.
I see the J6 hearings are starting again next week.
Nothing screams "greatest threat to our Democracy in 150 years" like taking 6 weeks off for vacation.
Keep in mind: the DOJ is real. The J6 Commission is purely political. This is just more proof.
We are an hour into the hearing...what exactly have we seen that is new? Yes, there is new footage, but it's all on points that have been established before.
Biden's lead in AZ is down to 18,713. And his % of late ballots is holding at 56%. If there are more than 157,050 votes remaining, at this rate, Trump wins.

The video was extraordinarily damning of the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers. Of course, many of them have (rightly) been charged with crimes. The key is going to be whether their activity can be tied to anyone at the White House. We haven't seen anything on that yet.
I see the media is beating up on the GOP-controlled House for leaving Washington before a debt-ceiling deal is reached.
I cannot help but wonder why that same media doesn't voice the same criticism for the Democrat-controlled Senate, which has been home all this week.
Trump just gained another 11,000 votes on Biden in AZ. From ballots in a part of the state was supposed to be Biden's. The update was roughly 57% Trump.
He's still on track to win the state.

Just to clarify things...given her position, there was probably no one closer to Meadows than Cassidy Hutchinson. As a "SAP" and the "principal aide" she would be familiar with just about everything that Meadows did/said/heard.
This is a huge problem for Trump '24. This isn't Bill Kristol or George Conway saying this. It's his base.
And when Trump's base starts calling him an "NFT Salesman," he's got real, real trouble.
Just watched 60 Minutes. Will leave the issue of the disparity of the questions to others. Will just encourage folks to go count the # of times Leslie S. interrupted the POTUS/VP vs. the # of times Norah M. interrupted Biden/Harris.
The double standards are getting worse.
FYI—Student debt cancelation isn’t paid for by the taxpayers, the federal government is the lender.
It’s costlier for the government to hold on to the debt.
Am hearing that the "mystery candidate" that the Gaetz/Meadows team want as Speaker is...Jim Bridenstine.
Jim's a good guy. And he'd get about 10 votes.
It's time to stop this nonsense, elect McCarthy, and get on with providing the check on Biden that the voters asked for.
Huge mistake to let Schiff close...indeed, to even have him on the Committee. His simple presence undermines the credibility of the Committee.
Wasn't this the guy who made up a Trump phone call during the first impeachment hearing?
Biden on 60 Minutes: “Yes, (US forces would defend Taiwan) if in fact there was an unprecedented attack".
The White House: Biden’s comments are not official U.S. policy.
Sooner or later they are going to stop letting him speak in public. It needs to be sooner.
@BlackCatBone5
Actually, his deduction for interest expense would have been higher if he had paid higher interest rates on his loans. And thus his income would be lower. So, he actually paid MORE income tax because of the lower rates.
Two updates in AZ last night. Trump closed the margin from 93k to 79k to 68k. Not sure what the %s were in that second update, but Trump took 64% of the first. If that % holds for the remaining votes, Trump wins AZ.
Just read Biden's campaign speech from last night. A lot of demonizing of Trump supporters. Not much on how to fix things...other than more demonizing of Trump supporters.
Not very helpful, especially from a "unifying" President.
I'm still shocked that some people think that 75,000,000 people "should have seen this coming." It's that kind of condescension -- of us v. them, of division -- that led in part to Wednesday. It needs to stop.
I cannot imagine a single person in this country who's mind was changed in any way by this hearing. Not sure why they didn't just call a press conference.
Politicians do love face time on TV, it seems.
Rep. Ralph Norman, who opposes McCarthy for Speaker, says the renegade Republicans have a secret candidate to run against him who is not a House member: “It will be apparent in the coming weeks who that person will be. I will tell you, it will be interesting.”
Hang on...there was information that "Congress was the target on January 6" ??? I can only assume that information was shared with Nancy Pelosi. That raises a whole slew of questions about how she responded (or failed to respond.)
I've been critical of some of the stuff
@VivekGRamaswamy
has done/said in this campaign (with good reason), but this is as good as anything I've seen out of any of the candidates yet.
WAPO reporter doubles down: You didn’t say that you condemn white supremacy though.
She immediately regrets it.
@VivekGRamaswamy
isn’t going to play the game.
Our ancestors fought the British, the Germans, they fought for freedom, for Civil Rights. They fought to save the world.
Donny… he’s fighting to save his golf shirts. The battle of Peter Millar is here.
It doesn't surprise me that Meadows is involved. He has hated McCarthy for a long time. For him and his group, the battle isn't about principles or philosophy.
You just have to wonder how many of the other NeverKevin group knew they being used as part of a personal vendetta.
Please allow this to sink in: The person who is saying this was one of the most senior (albeit informal) advisers to the President of the United States.
