Authorities in Niger say a fire at a school in the southern city of Maradi has killed at least 26 children. Many others are being treated for severe burns. The fire happened in classrooms made of straw. The schoolchildren were aged between 3 and 8.

Went to the scene of this morning’s crash between a passenger bus and a train in Lagos. The wreckage has now been cleared and the injured moved to a nearby hospital. But lots of bystanders are angry at the lack of security barriers.

The police in Kastina say they’ve rescued 84 students of an Islamic school, abducted over the weekend. The students were reportedly rescued after security forces and local vigilantes engaged the kidnappers in gun battles. This comes just 48 hours after 344 schoolboys were rescued
