It’s an epidemic.
I beg parents and fans: Stop yelling at the refs. What do you think you have to gain?
Does screaming and complaining about calls/non-calls make up for the lack of something in your life? Just watch and cheer for your team.
HS basketball is at a low point.
One of the coolest things in sports.
The entire stadium waving to the Children’s Hospital at the end of the first quarter. Opposing team, refs, everyone.
You can see kids waving back too.
After Louisville allowed 542 rushing yards, my absolute favorite interview answer of all time.
Q: “Did they do anything offensively that you didn’t prep for?”
Petrino: “No.”
At AAU this weekend I talked to a few college coaches about what they are looking for in players.
Every single one said MOTOR. That’s something you have 100% control over.
Remember that.
🚨WBB Elite Camp Information🚨
I've spent the last three days compiling WBB Elite Camps. There are over 400 camps included with nearly 200 D1's from across the country + more will be added daily.
Please RT for visibility as this is a great resource.
🚨Prospects🚨
One thing I heard from MULTIPLE D1 coaches this weekend is very simple.
One of the best things you can do to be noticed on the court is TALK. You will have to communicate in college and coaches notice the loudest players quickest.
It can raise your stock so much.
I spoke to dozens and dozens of coaches this week between Des Moines and Chicago.
No one asked me, “How many points did she score?”
Don’t get caught up in the flashy numbers…coaches are more concerned with you making teammates better, being a leader, playing hard, etc.
Here's a text I just received and am sharing with permission:
"Our head coach (D2) has twice been out at games this year recruiting kids and has called me to tell me he isn't interested anymore in a player because the mom/dad was yelling at the refs or the coach the whole time."
It’s an epidemic.
I beg parents and fans: Stop yelling at the refs. What do you think you have to gain?
Does screaming and complaining about calls/non-calls make up for the lack of something in your life? Just watch and cheer for your team.
HS basketball is at a low point.
Going to try this again - if you’re interested in playing basketball at the next level, like this tweet (and make sure you follow me so I can reach out) so I can grab a little additional information off of you to add you to a list that college coaches will see.
I got this DM from a director in response to my earlier tweet.
It is 100% evidence of coaches looking at body language! You can be offered over others because of it!
🚨HS Recruits🚨
Learn how to finish off of TWO feet.
Playing off two feet allows you to do more than just score. It gives you a strong base and allows you to finish through contact.
You'll differentiate yourself when you understand when to use a one foot vs. a two feet finish.
Some useful information for players:
These are verbatim texts I got from D1 coaches this week asking about players.
Is she running the floor hard?
Does she look like she wants to rebound?
Is she doing anything other than shooting?
Is X being a vocal leader?
🚨Prospects🚨
Two Power 5 coaches have asked me about the same thing this morning and it something you can control!
Both asked me how a player's body language was after a bad play. Both told me they will mark players off who consistently show bad body language.
Control it!
🚨Prospects🚨
Efficiency matters!
15 points on 8 shots is going to appeal to coaches more than 25 points on 30 shots.
They look at competition level as well. 12 points vs. great players is better than 20 points vs. bad players.
All points are NOT created equal.
🚨ATTENTION PARENTS/PLAYERS🚨
Want to know the single fact that can hurt your recruitment the most this July?
Sitting in chairs for college coaches.
Don’t do it. Coaches will seriously not come to your games. There were numerous times yesterday that a coach passed up a game.
3 things I look for at Elite Camps
Energy - coaches notice who is playing hard and who is lethargic
Communication - You need to be vocal, college practices aren’t quiet
Basketball IQ - How quickly can you pick up a new drill? Do you have to be told how to do it multiple times?
A few of the most underrated skills in basketball:
✅Off ball movement
✅Running off/setting screens
✅Keeping your dribble
✅Footwork
✅Communication
✅Boxing Out
✅Post Entry Passing
✅Leadership
✅Humility
✅Floor IQ
After a few days of mulling it over, I've decided to make my private scouting service free for a year. Instead of limiting player information to colleges who subscribe to me, I will be opening it up so that no player gets overlooked.
🎯Prospects🎯
A theme has started to appear in my convos today with coaches at multiple levels.
They are looking for players that make winning plays!
It's not always the scoring, but are you making plays that WIN the game?
Making winning plays will help you stand out!
2018 SF 6’5 Michigan State commit Aaron Henry (
@henny2x
) just balled out. Had a career high 49 points. Got to the rim with ease and let the game come to him. One of the best games I’ve seen this year. Added 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.
Texts I DIDN’T get from college coaches:
What was their team record?
How many points did she score?
Did she play the whole game?
Coaches don’t care about the result for the most part, they care about how well you play as a teammate! Stats and records are misleading in AAU.
🚨Players and Parents🚨
I've had conversations with P5 to NAIA coaches this week in anticipation for July. Here are 3 questions they have asked about specific kids that you might not think about.
Is she liked by teammates?
Has she improved her weaknesses?
How is her work ethic?
Here are my 4A-1A preseason polls before the season starts tomorrow. There’s a ton of teams that are very close to making it on each ballot.
Please let me know how I snubbed your school. I’ll try to explain my thoughts on each team.
Do you want to play college basketball? Below are two tweets on how to get your information to me and out to college coaches within a minute. There is absolutely NO CHARGE to you whatsoever. Please RT so everyone can see and have this opportunity.
Now that the AAU season is over I just wanted to say thank you to the programs, parents, and players for a outrageously successful spring and summer. It was great seeing some of the top talent in the country this spring and then into this summer.
WHAT A NIGHT OF SCORING 😱
88 players with 20+ points.
21 players with 30+ points!
RT if you see someone you know!
Make sure to let me know scoring totals nightly via DM or mention.
I will be releasing this Elite Camp list tomorrow. I have over 400 Elite Camps listed from D1 to NCCCA. Still finishing up some small tweaks to make it user friendly!
If you have an Elite Camp you want to make sure is on it - please DM me date/time.
I am putting together a public Google Sheet that will list every Elite Camp + Team Camp I can find.
If you are a college coach, please reach out with your dates as well as a link to sign up.
This will be a good resource!
🎯PARENTS OF PROSPECTS🎯
Expanding on my tweet from yesterday:
A mid major D1 assistant sent me a message with a little more insight to what questions they are asking that parents/players might not think of.
Your family can/will have a big impact on your recruitment!
Just caught a peek at the transfer portal and all I have to say is if you’re a 2022 and not committed you better be calling the coaches who have offered you and asking if there is still a spot on the team.
A team can go from 4 to 0 open spots in an hour.
🚨High School Prospects🚨
If you think you're too good to be recruited by a certain level of school, you're probably wrong.
Get out this year and watch a JUCO, NAIA, DIII, DII, and a DI game.
Depending on who you watch it might open your eyes.
Just wrapped up my 5th summer of covering GBB. It was the best summer I’ve had yet and my mental health was the best it’s ever been.
I wanted to say thank you to everyone involved - parents, coaches, players, event directors, etc.
🚨Attention Prospects🚨
How can you separate yourself from other players?
✅Play Defense
✅Communicate
✅Stay Positive
✅Be a Good Teammate
✅Provide Energy
✅Be Coachable
✅Hustle
Many can score the ball, but not everyone can do the above - consistently. That separates you.
The coach asked me which kid was the daughter and I gave the coach her jersey number.
The coach immediately put a line through her name.
Parents don’t realize what type of effect they have on their kid’s recruiting until they ruin it!
Coaches are NOT just evaluating players.
This summer I attended 15 events and multiple elite camps across the country. Here is a list of 2024's that caught my attention this AAU season.
Claire Sheppard
Britt Prince
Callie Levin
Allie Zieball
Emilee Fox
Olivia Olson
Regan Williams
Allison Heathcock
Aili Tanke
This past weekend I was at
@PGHCircuit
's Prep Girls Hoops Live event, which welcomed in teams all over the country to Council Bluffs, Iowa.
There was a ton of talent in the building and below I highlight the 10 players that stood out from the event.
We are officially in a delay here at the CBB Academy while the bracket is sorted out.
We’ve got a few games of knockout going on in the facility. Referees are involved.
Never seen this before.
Last week I posed a question asking if there was anything you could ask a college coach, what would it be?
@impacttsports
asked "Do you actually read the emails and watch the highlight videos that recruits send you? When is the best time to send them?"
And coaches answered!
🚨Attention Prospects🚨
Don't ignore the schools who are actively recruiting you and instead just try to get the attention of schools who are not.
Sometimes you have to choose the people that choose you!
New 4A preseason poll:
1. Warren Central
2. Warren Central
3 Warren Central
4. Warren Central
5. Warren Central
6 Warren Central
7. Warren Central
8. Warren Central
9. Warren Central
10. Warren Central
Here it is. 2019 SF 6’6 Nate Childress of Zionsville (IN) with the poster dunk. LEAPS OVER THE GUY! Next possession 2019 C 6’8 Cole Brady of Carmel (IN) takes an oop off the backboard from Myles Johnson. Best dunk I’ve EVER seen in person. Indiana Elite Metro 2019 having fun.
Excited to be out at Live at the Nook! and GUAA this weekend in Manheim.
I'll be providing coverage on both Twitter/IG on
@AsherScouting
.
Link to sign up for photos/private evaluation here (only 2 spots remain):
I will never understand why I can sit down 20 minutes before a basketball game with no one within 10 seats of me and inevitably, with an entire section of seats empty, someone sits down right beside me.
I have a bookbag, a laptop, and a binder and I am NOT MOVING IT FOR YOU.
This weekend I was talking to a college coach while watching a game.
There was a parent who was yelling at the ref, complaining about the calls each time down the floor, and also trying to coach their kid from the sideline - not in a good way.
I’m out of Day 2 of the Run for Roses Classic. Lots of talent in the building and will be seeing a ton of new names this week!
I’ll have some thoughts throughout the day below! 👇
Just found out that a 2019 player blocked me because he didn't like my evaluation on him and I wouldn't remove it. Thinks he is D1 and is not (D2/JUCO). Not going to pump anyone up and I even gave him constructive criticism to enhance his game to get to D1.
*has 0 offers* 🙄
Girls in the 2020/2021/2022 classes - if you’re looking to play college basketball RT and hit me with a follow so that I can contact you.
Putting together some information for some college coaches and need as many players as possible! Looking to help you get the recognition!
Insane scoring around the Illinois/Indiana area on Saturday. Take a look at all the huge games. RT if you see someone you know!
Make sure to alert me the day of the game so you can make the list.
🚨Attention Parents and Prospects🚨
Here's some questions that you can ask college coaches on visits or on phone calls to learn about their program!
Take detailed notes (or have a parent do it) while you're on the phone or on your visit for future reference.
Here are the 2018 Indiana All-Stars:
Aaron Henry
Eric Hunter Jr.
Damezi Anderson
Romeo Langford
Rob Phinisee
Mehki Lairy
Sean East
Kevin Easley
Chance Coyle
Dean Tate
Gavin Bizeau
Jarron Coleman
De’Avion Washington
Tyler Watson, a 6’1 G from Tri-West HS (IN), has decommitted from Marian University (NAIA) and has committed to Wabash College (D3). He will bring scoring at all three levels and supreme toughness. A point away from 2k in high school. Will be an immediate weapon.
🚨Prospects🚨
Everyone wants "exposure" and many are obsessed with social media.
If the person/platform that's posting about you isn't respected/connected to college coaches, it won't have much of an impact. Don't be fooled just because of how watered down things have become.
There were a lot of things to take away from the first
@TheCBBAcademy
on the women’s side.
The event cost 8 million dollars to put on so for those saying it was a money maker, it wasn’t.
All expenses were paid and everyone in the building had food paid to a certain amount.
Purdue commit 2019 6' Isaiah Thompson (
@Ithompson11
) of Zionsville (IN) scored 44 points tonight in a win. He's going to provide some much needed scoring in a few years for the Boilermakers.
🚨Drop your AAU highlights below!🚨
With the end of the AAU season, I will be bringing back my "3-Pack" article where I look at three players each day and link to your film.
Will do this until I run out of film below!
