Po, the noodle-loving Dragon Warrior from the “Kung Fu Panda” franchise, will return to the skies of New York City as an all-new giant balloon in the 2023 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! The giant panda last appeared over a decade ago in the 2012 Parade. (1/4)

The iconic television program debuted 54 years ago and has helped teach generations of children how to grow smarter, stronger, and kinder. They’ve been in over 40 Macy’s Parades, and we can’t wait to see them back this year!

Earlier today, it was announced that the University of Massachusetts Minuteman Marching Band would appear in the 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! The band last appeared in the Parade lineup nearly a decade ago in 2013. (1/3)

The Minuteman Marching Band was one of only ten bands selected to march in the 2024 Parade out of hundreds of applicants and will join three other university marching bands in New York next November.

Up, up and away!
Between 1928 and 1932, Macy's Great Balloon Race took place at the Parade's culmination point outside of Macy's Herald Square. One by one, the balloon's lines were cut as they were sent skyward.
Macy's offered a cash reward for those who returned the balloons.

November 27, 1924: the day it all started.
At 9 a.m. sharp, the call of "Let's Have A Parade!" signaled the start of the first-ever Macy's Christmas Parade at 145th Street and Convent Avenue.
The procession featured fantasy floats, tumbling clowns, marching bands, and animals!

🏳️🌈We were so glad to see Macy’s in the NYC Pride March again this year!🏳️🌈
The newly-refurbished float carried Macy’s employees who shared the message of Pride + Joy. A certain visitor from the North Pole even made an appearance incognito!
Once dressed as a pilgrim, Tom now sports a fashionable blue top hat. The hat was changed at the request of Indigenous Direction, a consulting firm for those who wish to produce art for Indigenous people, and who have worked with Macy’s for several years.

A team of 90 Straw Hats will help Luffy embark to Herald Square. The balloon will measure 43 feet long, 39 feet wide, and 50 feet tall—the widest in this year’s lineup! Sponsored by Toei Animation, the balloon will feature Luffy’s signature grin and high-energy personality. (2/3)
Angry Birds’ Red, Harold the Baseball Player, and a Yellow Macy’s Star hit the test track as handlers and flight management personnel “learned the ropes” of flying the iconic Macy’s Parade balloons.

Below the high-flying excitement were celebrity characters for children to meet. Garfield, Betty Boop, Spider-Man, Scooby-Doo, the Wicked Witch of the West, Batly, Toxie, Captain America, and Doctor Doom! The late, great Bob McGrath of Sesame Street also made an appearance.
If we had a nickel for every time someone compared a sizeable celebrity or politician to the Parade’s balloons we’d have enough to fund a second Parade.

Check out the Salute to Canada float from the 1966 Parade! The float promoted the upcoming Expo 67 in Montreal, Quebec, and featured the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Royal Canadian Dragoons Band, and the Royal Highland Regiment of Canada!

His fourth and final Parade appearance came in 2016. Sharing the special moment with him was none other than Miss Piggy, who joined Bennett in a duet of “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” on the Heartwarming Holiday Countdown float by Hallmark Channel. (5/6)
Heralding the holiday season in 2001, Tony Bennett made his third appearance on the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer float, where he performed the titular song. (4/6)
Perhaps the most exciting news is that the Parade, for the first time in its nearly 100-year history, will start 30 minutes early at 8:30 a.m. sharp! NBC will broadcast all three-and-a-half hours of exciting entertainment.
Today, we honor the memory of Jean McFaddin, on what would've been her 81st birthday. Jean was the head of Macy's Special Events for 24 years and is credited with making the Parade the world-famous event that it is today. (1/3)
