The Yankees record before trading Joey Gallo: 70-34
The Yankees record after trading Joey Gallo: 32-33
Did trading Joey Gallo change the course of the Yankees season?
Yankees have emerged as the clear favorite on Rodón. Could see a deal done today. Not finished, but there has been productive talks today. Would expect a 6 year deal.
Yankees Rotation (according to my SP Rankings)
1. Gerrit Cole (
#4
)
2. Carlos Rodón (
#6
)
3. Luis Severino (
#27
)
4. Nestor Cortes Jr. (
#30
)
5. Frankie Montas (
#32
)
All have ace level upside. Best rotation we’ve seen in a little while.
The Phillies and Rays have emerged as potential suitors for right-hander Jacob deGrom, per sources. Rangers and Mets are still in. Rays officials believe they have an outside shot at deGrom but think location and roster construction should be an aid to their pursuit.
Sources: Yankees initial offer to left-hander Carlos Rodón was in the 5 year, 125 million dollar range. Rodón's camp found that offer to be quite low, but no other team is yet to top it.
NYY is likely to go higher if necessary, considering this was their first offer.
The Padres have promoted 17 Year Old Catching prospect Ethan Salas to High-A Fort Wayne.
There is an outside chance that Salas hits free agency at the same age that Adley Rutschman was called up.
Wild.
Two confirmed teams in on RHP Luis Castillo: New York Yankees and Minnesota Twins. Yankees are willing to part with Oswald Peraza in a potential deal, which makes them the favorite as of now.
To reiterate, Castillo is the Yankees’ primary target at the deadline.
NYY won’t go quietly after Judge. They are preparing to make an offer for left-hander Carlos Rodón, and pursuing a corner outfielder (Masataka Yoshida, Andrew Benintendi, amongst others).
NYY loves the idea of a Cole-Rodón 1-2, with Severino/Cortes Jr/Montas back-end.
Sources: Yankees plan to meet with outfielder Aaron Judge and left-hander Carlos Rodón in San Diego. Giants have recently made an offer to Judge that hasn’t exceeded the Yankees’ by much—both with the length of 8 years.
🚨I am calling upon all Non-Blue Jays Fans🚨
Vote for Buxton, Anderson, Torres, and France respectively over Springer, Bichette, Espinal and Guerrero Jr.
Don’t let non-deserving players win because they are backed by a country.
Teams that have already reached out to the WSH in regards to acquiring Juan Soto:
- Giants
- Cardinals
- Yankees
- Dodgers
- Padres
The Nationals want prospects and players at all levels in return. With the deadline approaching, it’s become increasingly more likely he’s move.
The Yankees were “a minute” away from trading for Pablo López at the deadline. Miami ownership pulled the plug at the last possible second. Would have sent an upper minors infielder and outfielder to Miami.
This did not impact NYY’s plan to move LHP Jordan Montgomery to STL.
The Luis Castillo talks have began to heat up, with a deal possibly being done before the weekend.
The current front runner: New York Yankees, who offered a package surrounding an upper minors infielder & lower minors outfielder.
Minnesota Twins are still interested as well.
LAD Acquires Joey Gallo:
Great move for NYY and decent move for LAD. If they can get into Gallo’s untapped potential he’ll be great. NYY gets back Clayton Beeter who has a 60 grade fastball. Really nice return much more than anticipated.
Grades:
LAD: B+
NYY: A+
The Braves marginally upgraded at first base (from a franchise icon) while giving up their entire farm because they didn’t want to pay him the money he likely deserved, after winning the WS and making the most in revenue in their franchise history.
That’s just awful.
Red Sox had to extend Rafael Devers (and did a good job in doing so) but would you rather have Devers at 11 years $332 million or Mookie Betts at 12 years $360 million? I think the answer is pretty obviously Betts.
The San Diego Padres and St. Louis Cardinal have entered a bidding war to acquire Nationals OF Juan Soto, but Washington’s preference is to still acquire Yankees’ Anthony Volpe in a potential deal, per sources.
Top 10 second basemen going into 2022. A couple things:
I think Volpe plays 2B when he comes up, unless Peraza is moved.
I am counting Ketel Marte as UTL on the UTL list that will come later.
Anyways…
NYY Acquires Montas: Great trade for the Yankees getting a borderline elite controllable starter, and decent return for Oakland getting Waldichuk, Sears, and Medina. All high ceiling pitchers.
Grades:
NYY: A
OAK: B+
Me: A+
Royce Lewis was the 1st overall pick in 2017. He’s dealt with injuries and under performance, and is now finally getting a shot at being a full time player in 2023. Through 177 PAs, he has an .907 OPS and 149 wRC+.
This needs to be talked about more.
