A year ago today I was unable to walk having suffered a stroke. Thanks to the mindset learned as an Olympian, 2 months later I was back running! Today Iโm thankful to my family, friends, fans, and
@mjp360
for the incredible support!

On this day 24 years ago I completed the historic 200/400 double and broke the 200m world record. Very proud to have realized this dream! And today I can still fit in the uniform!!!๐
Thanks to all of the
@BBCSport
audience. I appreciate all the compliments! ๐๐พ This was a tough one for us. To answer the question why I choose to work for BBC. I like to team with the best!
Putting this to rest! Winning ANY Olympic๐ is incredible. I was always favored for ๐ฅ so ๐ฅ๐ฅ would be disappointing. But if I were a projected finalist,๐ฅ is a win! Donโt listen to people whose only sport is stirring up shit. Regardless how many followers they have.

Two sporting icons. Two different eras. But there is one huge similarity between Muhammad Ali and Novak Djokovic. They stuck to their principles even when the world was trying to shut them down. They have both transcended sport with their bravery when under fire.
Hit 54 this week. What Iโve learned so far. My family is everything. Your decisions determine your success and your failure. Self discovery pays extraordinary dividends. Preparation, preparation, preparation! Luck helps but donโt wait for it.
Two years ago today I found myself in the hospital having suffered a serious stroke. Unable to walk or stand. I was initially afraid and angry. In this picture Iโm smiling because I knew Iโd walk again due to the love and support of my wife, my family, friends, and fans. ๐๐พ
A month ago today I suffered a stroke. I could not walk. Doctors said only time will tell if I will recover or to what degree. Its been grueling work but made a full recovery, re-learned how to walk and today doing agility drills! Thanks for the messages of encouragement! ๐๐พ
Laid my role model to rest today. He worked hard to provide for his family and knew the most valuable thing he could provide was life lessons. Hard work, responsibly, and always have a plan! He preferred me in the 400 over the 200 was his only flaw! ๐ RIP Dad. I love you.
27 years ago today! This moment just before a 19 second race will determine my place in history. What am I thinking in this moment?

At my sonโs school parent sports day I was long retired and some of the parents were younger than me. Increased risk of โIโm John and I just beat Michael Johnson in a race.โ Nope!
Gentle reminder to Twitter users. An opinion is an opinion. Everything isnโt binary. 2 things can be right. 2 people can be great. Praise for one person isnโt criticism of another. A comparison isnโt a diss. Some things arenโt worthy of an angry reply. But if you must. Carry on.
There can be no more complaints or excuses that track โneeds more personalitiesโ Two of the most dynamic individuals in the sport are now the worldโs fastest!
Iโm not understanding

25 years ago today met the great Michael Schumacher. Traded champion tips, exchanged signed spikes for a signed helmet and presented the trophy for his win at Spa. My first ever

race. Iโve attended at least one almost every year since! Thanks for the reminder
@TheBishF1
Said it before. I believe Omanyala will be the first African to win a 100m World Champs medal. His muscular structure provides tremendous power but do any coaches or sport science experts out there think it could become a limiting factor in his ability to sprint efficiently?
19 seconds from now you will either be the Olympic Champion or you wonโt! At this moment you will either wish you had treated every day of training as an opportunity to be prepared, or you will be thankful that you did! That applies not only to sport!

Itโs been 3 years since I suffered a serious stroke that left me unable to walk. I am grateful for everyday, the road to recovery that brought me back to feeling like myself

This is an interesting tweet sent on the day we see the women in Tokyo running blazing fast times in the prelims to making the womenโs 100 final look like it could be one of the greatest with whoโs here.
So many kind words yesterday! Recovery was difficult. Iโm no stranger to hard work. But this required me to accept being physically weak and allowing others to help me. With support, a winning mindset, AND a willingness to confront our own shortcomings we can overcome anything!
I have loved every minute of tuning into the

Apology starting with โIf I offended anyoneโ is no apology. But this is Tiger. Never been a leader and heโs Teflon. Still heralded after all the mistakes so heโs learned nothing. Media focus always on miraculous recovery. Never why the need for recovery.
For decades people have said track isnโt dying. This continually repeated means two things. 1) Track obviously will never die! 2) Impending death isnโt the problem. Not thriving is the problem. World Champs every 2 years & Olympics every 4, always great regardless of location.โฆ
I remember this so clearly. The love and support Derekโs dad had for his son was on full display in front of the world in that difficult moment. Condolences to Derek and his family.
Our thoughts are with Derek Redmond and his family following the death of his father, Jim.
Together, they brought us one of the most inspirational moments in Olympic history. โค๏ธ
The race when I learned how to deliver my best under pressure. Top 3 go to the Olympics. Race was hot! Olympic champions & World record holders. And Iโm stuck out in Lane 8. The lesson: Impenetrable focus only on what you control. Anything else is a distraction.
3 takeaways from
#IAAFDoha2019
1) Doha was a mistake. Not good for athletes or growing the sport. 2) Fans growing even more frustrated with doping. But this sport leads others in catching & punishing cheats. 3) Athlete performance & level of competition in this sport is amazing!
25 years ago today. After 6 years of trying to break the 200m world record I finally broke it. I thought I had the day before having run 19.70 but the wind was above the allowable. This was a goal achieved. But I wasnโt content. There would be much more to come!

The world legend is probably used too often. Dick Fosbury was a true LEGEND! He changed an entire event forever with a technique that looked crazy at the time but the result made it the standard.
RIP to the man who changed the high jump forever โ Dick Fosbury.
He became a legend at the 1968 Mexico City Olympic Games when he unveiled his revolutionary โFosbury Flopโ to win high jump gold and clear an Olympic record height.

This contrast is amazing. Shericka advantage is power. ShaโCarri advantage is speed. Speed won today. ShaโCarri starts getting a better start with that speed and sheโs going to be very difficult to beat. By anyone!
The alarms were sounded for four years. Republicans ignored them. Many in the media ignored them and normalized dangerous behavior. Sadly, today it all came to be. Shameful! This president and his supporters. Shame on you! And take responsibility!
Remember when Edwin Moses was a sweet hurdling bastard? Motherfucker won 122 races in a row jumping over shit while looking like a founding member of Earth, Wind & Fire. We were witnesses.
True! Jamaica has a population less than 3m, yet the best sprint factory in the world. Thereโs nobody in the sport whoโs not obsessed and impressed!
As a commentator my job is to comment. In questioning the times of 28 athletes (not 1 athlete) by wondering if the timing system malfunctioned, I was attacked, accused of racism, and of questioning the talent of an athlete I respect and predicted to win. Unacceptable. I move on.
52 years ago. Tommie Smith and John Carlos used their platform for racial equality. Two of my favorite athletes and heroes. This is my favorite sports photograph of all time!

Watch Dame Denise Lewis and Michael Johnson reaction as Great Britain's Josh Kerr wins gold in the men's 1500m final at the World Athletics Championships 2023.
Brilliant.
Congratulations to Josh Kerr. You are a World Champion.
Iโm hearing many athletes unable to get into the US due to visa issues. Iโm sure weโll found out in the coming days the extent of this issue. But if itโs trueโฆDAMN!
Never seen anything like this in all my years in this sport! Two Dutch athletes fall 5 meters from winning gold. One immediately after the other! Crazy!
My records are dwindling. Iโm good with it! Who will break the remaining ones?

Track is hard! Only 1 major championship per year. Major earning opportunities based on that 1 championship. No โbest ofโseries. Survive elimination from prelims to final. No timeouts. No quarters. No halves.Gun goes off. You succeed or you donโt.

Athletic apparel companies design sleek fast uniforms for the fastest humans in the world. And theyโre required to attach a piece of paper to it with safety pins! Crazy!
To be clear unfortunately Devon Allen was robbed because of an antiquated World Athletics rule, not by the officials. Officials canโt just decide in the moment to disregard a rule violation even if itโs a stupid and unfair rule. WA need to change the rule!
This is crazy! The US Olympic team is the most difficult team in the world to make in one event! This kid not just made the team in two technically different events. But he won them both!!!!

I was in the best 400 shape of my life going into this race. The execution was not perfect but good enough. I wanted sub 43. Key to this record was getting up to race pace in the first 60 meters quicker than I ever had before. One of my proudest moments!

took down Butch Reynoldsโ 11-year old mark in the 400m (43.29), clocking a new world record of 43.18 at the World Championships in Seville, Spain. It was his 4th straight World title in the 400.
