I’m a lucky coach. Hannah and Grace laying on the court with Jensen. Everyone helping chase Beckett around. And Gabby helping Keegan make his FIRST EVER SHOT ON A BIG HOOP! It’s more than hoops - and it’s a blessing to have these young ladies a part of my family’s life.

Just an observation. We have our share of injuries - kids who are our for extended periods of time. And yet I still see their parents in the stands cheering the team on. As invested as if their own kid were out there. This is a special place with special people.

Our family of four grew yesterday. Jensen James Harris came into the world large (8 pounds 11 ounces) and in charge. Mom and baby are doing great. His brothers can’t wait to meet him tomorrow.

My dad taught at Mayfield for 35 years. He was the voice of the Wildcats for decades. He’s the reason I’m a teacher and a coach. I wouldn’t be half the man I am today without him. Appreciate seeing this picture from the 90/91 program. 30 years later I’m in the 21/22 program.

The last 8 years #14 has been worn by Kahrin Spear (‘15) and Sydney Feller (‘19). Those two combined for nearly 1800 points, 300+ made threes, 100+ team wins, and countless other intangible attributes. If you think just anyone is gonna get to rock #14 next year you’re nuts!

Why do I coach? Got a text from a former player about her excitement getting accepted to her top choice of law school. Had another used me as a reference for her character and fitness interview to make sure she’s fit to become a lawyer. Both brought tears of joy to my eyes!

After 14 girls got after it at an 8 AM open gym Sunday (thanks to coach @stewlandies for opening the gym), 8 girls went to breakfast together at Bob Evans. Where a nice woman bought their breakfast. Another perfect embodiment of what makes Chardon and our community special.

I’ve always said I’m lucky to have the kids we have at Chardon. Good kids, play hard, talented, etc. But most impressive is their efforts in the classroom. 23 of 29 players with above a 3.0 GPA for the 2nd Q including 18 above 3.5 and 8 4.0s. On a non-weighted grading scale.

Wildcats move to 2-0 on the young season with a 55-39 W over Cle Hts. Uriah Jennings and Gabby Moore (13) led the way in scoring. Alex Duncan (11), Nav Buttar (8), Sincere Lucas & Hannah Peterson (4) chipped in as well. Sophomore Cori Marsalis scored her first V bucket today!

When asked their favorite part of the day - both Keegan and Beckett (in their own words): “Hoops with the girls”. And Beckett added “pancakes too!” Thankful for these girls, who my boys adore, and the positive examples they set for them.

Were very lucky to add Coach @hallelandies5 to our staff. She may not able to get a bucket - but she’ll help our team in a multitude of ways off the court! Minor setback for a major comeback - no doubt about it.

17 games in two days between two teams. Two early mornings at Findlay. Summer league games tonight. Every excuse in the book to not wake up and come to shooting/skills this morning. Yet we had 18 kids participating. That’s the dedication necessary to be great! 😀🏀⛏

Championship effort for 32 minutes? ⛏ Balance team effort? ⛏ First non-conference @NHPreps team to beat Mentor in 8 years? ⛏ Mission accomplished? ❌ Enjoy it for tonight - but the grind continues tomorrow! I’m happy I get to coach these kids for at least 4 more days.

Toppers move to 12-6 with a win over Cuyahoga Falls. Toppers had 9 players score including the first varsity points from sophomore Anna Landies. Back at it tomorrow at Mayfield. Varsity only with a 7 PM tip.

In true Tooper fashion - we locked it down defensively, played together, played with high energy and effort all night. Toppers defeated Brush 43-35. @ljn_10 (12), @SamanthaLiechty (7), and @anna_t04 , @sydney_feller , Noerr, Koppelman, @dannimcc13 , @annapastor02 all had 4.

Varsity gets the first win of their season with a 54-41 W over Maple Hts. Lexi Paros-Gaser (12), Kayla Noerr & Caitlyn Goodrich (11), Jo Janda (9) paced the team. Halftime adjustments helped the team pull away. Toppers take on South Wednesday 5:30/7 @ South.

Toppers defeat D2 state ranked Perry 50-45 in OT. 8 players played in the game. 8 players scored. That’s what we’re all about. Proud of the culture we have created to allowed us to win these types of games! Hard work, toughness, and controlling our energy and effort!
