Jokes aside, the next few months are the greatest test of the athlete. Anyone can pull on their trainers on a blue sky day. But you've got to think blue sky, when it's not. No excuses. Get out there! Get that run in.

We have a former Olympian at our club who coaches. He helps everyone. He is selfless and praises all. He has given to the sport for 60 years. He writes no blog...takes no selfies...doesn't want attention. Doesn't need likes. For him, it's about others. That's all.

An athlete who performed particularly well in a real race last week, got about 8mm of journalism in the local rag. Meanwhile others who did virtual 26.2s in several hours got centre spread. And people wonder why club athletics is suffering. It's not right.

So many get locked into the club pattern of training. Sometimes you've got to be unsociable to make progress. Don't feel guilty about this. Consider how sociable your running becomes when you are injured.

Comebacks in running can take a while. Your past is your past. Your present is a whole different thing. Where you go and where it ends up...it's probably best to take it a day at a time.

It's strange how you can feel terrible in the warm up and then once you get going, you feel fine. Running's a funny old game.

If we celebrated Kew Gardens and it's victors, we should celebrate Podium 5k in equal measure.

You know that deep down tired feeling after a long run, where you just want to curl up in a ball and have a little sleep?

I ran 2 hours for the first time in a long while and it made me reflect on a piece of writing Hashizume published some time ago. The basic gist of it was, there's a lot of difference between 90 mins and 2 hours. I agree!

The long run....it defines everything else you do. Avoid it at your peril.

Went to the club session. Everyone ran quicker than me. But I was happy, because I did want I needed to do and got through it. As athletes we need to do what we need and not get drawn into others' plans.

I've come to the conclusion that long tough runs, with tough sections in them, are always tough - it doesn't matter how fit you are.

It's probably the only time I'll do a medal Monday and just to be different, it's Tuesday. 200 + race wins...many placings. Did ok for a 'scrubber'. Enjoy what you do. It doesn't last forever.
