Today’s Supreme Court ruling means that now in Kentucky, a 12-year-old girl who is raped and impregnated by her father, has no options.
It is unconscionable that this extreme, total ban provides no exception for that child or any other survivors of rape or incest. ^JC

As the highest elected educator in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, let me be crystal clear: our public schools have not failed our children — some elected officials have failed public education.
It's a privilege to serve Kentucky as Lt Gov. I'm thankful for my family, friends & fellow educators who were with me tonight as I became the first teacher to serve in this role since Martha Layne Collins. My priorities are to make our schools better & put our children first. ^JC
In January,
@GovAndyBeshear
and I waived testing fees for the GED. Today, we announced that KY has seen a 81% increase in the number of people in the GED pipeline.

These past four years, Kentucky has been through so much, but we have also secured the best two years for economic investment and the largest budget surpluses ever. Let’s keep working together and make these next four years even better than the last.
State Rep. Kevin Bratcher, R-Louisville, says he wishes Kentucky teachers would get out of politics and elections, says it "poisons the well" when the Ky Leg tries to discuss teacher pensions. ^JC

@GovAndyBeshear
has been a national leader during the COVID-19 pandemic. As Lt. Governor, a mom, a wife, a teacher and a coach, I can promise you this: he has made every decision as if every Kentucky family was his own.
Thank you
@POTUS
for visiting Western Kentucky today to show your support for our people. We are grateful for your swift response and we know we will rebuild together.
If you think charter schools won’t affect your district, you’re not paying attention. We need to be loyal to our people and that means investing in our public schools which are underfunded. These are the classrooms where our kids learn and where our future is built.
HB563 was unanimously struck down by the KY Supreme Court, leaving no doubt that public dollars should stay in our public schools. Let’s work together to put kids first, support our teachers and ensure our schools have the resources they need to do what we’ve asked them to do.
"School choice" already exists in Kentucky. We have 171 public school districts with open enrollment that all play by the same rules.
What will be on the ballot in November is school vouchers that will send state tax dollars to private schools that don't play by the same rules.
As a teacher, I feel the concerns of my fellow educators about reopening. Their voice has to be heard, it has to be elevated, and it has to be a part of every reopening plan because they are the experts. ^JC

In 1992, I received a copy of “The Little Girl Who Grew Up to be Governor” by former Kentucky Governor Martha Layne Collins. As a little girl, she encouraged me to pursue my dreams. It seems like a fitting book to read to Evelynne on

I believe the override of
@GovAndyBeshear
's veto of HB9 is an unconstitutional decision that puts profits over people. HB9 diverts public tax dollars to privately operated, for-profit companies, not to the kids in underfunded public schools that need our support more than ever.
Contact tracing, paired with other health measures like wearing a mask and social distancing, can help put an end to this pandemic. Answer the call, Kentucky. Save a life.

On the final day of
#TeacherAppreciationWeek
, I recognize that I have a seat at the table because you refused to back down. I will be forever grateful for the educators who stood shoulder to shoulder, spoke truth to power, and changed the face of leadership in Kentucky!
Virginia, you’ve had our backs for the past eight months. Now, we’ve got yours. Sending love and a speedy recovery - we’ll get through this together. ^JC
As your Lt. Governor, I am determined to give a voice to Kentuckians who feel shutout, but refuse to back down – to build a Kentucky that works for all of us. It is time to get to work moving our state forward. ^JC
Kentucky courts have consistently ruled that state tax dollars must remain in public schools.
HB2 would overturn SEVEN sections of the constitution just to fund unaccountable private schools.
This would devastate public education, and it would break our rural school districts.
Tennessee and Texas are the most recent states abandoning the school voucher scheme. This November, Kentucky will have our chance to defeat the same voucher scheme and save our public schools. And I will work every day to make sure we do.
Evelynne and I are about to enjoy a great lunch from Thai Smile while supporting local businesses! (And Caroline is hoping for some crumbs) ^JC

HB9, the charter school legislation, is bad for education and bad for Kentucky. Here’s why:
💰For-profit companies will get rich off of YOUR tax dollars. These companies can open a charter and siphon off “administrative fees” with zero oversight.

More than anything, our educators and students deserve to be able to return to a place of work that is healthy and safe. Governor Beshear and I are committed to making that happen.
When
@GovAndyBeshear
and I say that every school employee deserves an 11% raise, this is why. It doesn't matter if you're the cook, custodian or chemistry teacher- you are part of the village our kids and families need.

First Lady Phyllis George represented Kentucky beautifully and I am so happy she made this Commonwealth her home. My thoughts are with her family today as they reflect on her memory.

Gov. Andy Beshear announced today that the federal government has selected Kentucky for a nearly $36 million grant to support families and the state’s economy by ensuring more children are ready for kindergarten.

When legislators struck down our school mask mandate last week, they put our children, educators and school employees at great risk. To the districts that have responded by instating mandates in their own communities: thank you for doing what is right.
Our public education system is under attack, and it falls on all of us to step up and speak out. Oppose House Bill 563, support our schools, teachers and kids.
I am saddened to hear of the passing of Fayette County Public Schools Superintendent Manny Caulk. Manny dedicated his life to public education and impacted the lives of thousands of children. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and colleagues. ^JC

Lawmakers in other states that made the mistake of sending public tax dollars to unaccountable private schools have come to regret it. I can promise you that the Kentucky lawmakers who make this same mistake will regret it, too.
The time is now for Universal PreK. This will give our littlest learners the jumpstart they need to show up to kindergarten ready to learn and succeed.
We are both in good health and resting well. Chris and I cannot wait to pass along Kentucky values: kindness, hard work and a smooth jump shot. 2/2 ^JC
Goodbye lunch breaks? A bill that would repeal a Kentucky policy requiring employers to grant you a meal period is one step closer to becoming law. WKYT Mornings is breaking it down.

Words cannot express the devastation I feel from our COVID-19 report yesterday, where I learned a 15-year old Kentuckian passed away due to this virus.
We cannot risk the health and safety of our children. Please, mask up and get vaccinated.
Today I visited the communities of Prestonsburg, Jackson and Campton where our public schools are serving as shelter for Kentuckians displaced. The devastation is heartbreaking, but the strength of our people is inspiring. 1/2
Thank you for all your love and prayers,

. And thank you,
@GovAndyBeshear
, for your continued friendship and leadership. It's truly an honor to be our commonwealth's Lieutenant Governor.
Thinking of my friend,

during this time. Her bravery in raising awareness about cancer screenings in such a personal way is very special.
We are lucky to have her as our Lieutenant Governor.

America has lost a country music queen and Kentucky has lost its “coal miner’s daughter.” Thank you, Loretta Lynn, for sharing your voice and for being a shining example of what it means to be a Kentuckian. ^JC
Yesterday, a caravan of school buses traveled across the state to deliver toys and supplies to kids and families in Western Kentucky. Thank you to the bus drivers and volunteers who made this happen. Every day, and especially this one, your work is heroic.
INCREDIBLE.... This photo is from the interstate of 65+ buses transporting donations and toys from eastern KY to southcentral Kentucky to help tornado survivors.
@alliehennard
brings us the story on WBKO News at 6.
Virginia Moore brought hope to Kentuckians during the uncertainty of the pandemic. She was always there, helping us get through it together. Please join me in holding both her family and friends, as well as the deaf and hard of hearing community, during this difficult time. ^JC
The purpose of school vouchers is "to throw the whole (public school) system in the trash." That is a direct quote from this bill's sponsor.
Reminder: about 90% of Kentucky's kids attend public school & many don't have another option in their community.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I will defend public education to the bitter end. There’s too much at stake not to – all of the Evelynnes out there deserve adequately and equitably funded schools. ^JC
At the heart of every reopening plan should be the health and safety of every child and every adult in the building, as well as every family they go home to at night. That should be first and foremost. ^JC

Don’t be fooled- school vouchers don’t allow school choice for parents. Vouchers mean it’s actually the “school’s choice” which kids they want to accept and which kids they want to turn away.
It was an honor to be recognized as a Distinguished Alumna at my Alma Mater,
@CentreC
. As I reflect on my time as a student and alumna of Centre, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the opportunities to grow and to teach. Thank you, Centre Dear.
Kentucky’s economy is on fire, and we are creating more opportunities for our people and our kids than ever before. However, if we want to continue to attract world-class companies, we must provide a world-class public education system.
👇This is why it's important to have an education-first administration leading the way. I'm proud to serve alongside
@GovAndyBeshear
and fight for our public schools every day. 🍎
We aren’t done yet,
#TeamKentucky
! Just like we've always done, we will continue to advocate for our kids and those who support them every day, provide more opportunity for our families and ensure all our people have what they need to thrive. Let’s keep working – together.
.
@GovAndyBeshear
and I will never use words like red or blue because none of that matters when we talk about rebuilding our communities. What matters is that we show up for one another and we invest in our people to make sure everyone gets a fair shot, no matter where they live.
Universal pre-k would not only help our children succeed, it would also help our families and our workforce. This is a no brainer – universal pre-k helps everyone.
When children show up to kindergarten behind, they tend to stay behind during their educational journey. That is why one of our state's top priorities must be early childhood education. We need to bridge the gap so that all Kentucky children have the ability to succeed.
Every Kentuckian should feel that they are loved. From proclaiming June 2021 as the first Pride Month in Kentucky to advocating alongside
@FairnessCamp
and
@HumanRightsKY
, we have worked to ensure every Kentuckian feels like they belong.
I am absolutely amazed by the people of Eastern Kentucky. Their strength and love for their people and communities is inspiring. There is no place I’d rather be today than with these families during their greatest hour of need. ^JC
Today this administration stood up for public education. Vetoing House Bill 9 was the right call. Charter schools will not help our children. It's time we fund and support our public schools. Thank you,
@GovAndyBeshear
.
I am a public school graduate and this is an education-first administration. I am against charter schools. HB 9 would take taxpayer dollars away from already underfunded public schools in the commonwealth, and the Legislation is also unconstitutional. This is why I vetoed HB 9.
As a teacher, I know there is no greater way to positively change a person’s economic situation than lifting their level of education. This announcement signifies our commitment to education.^JC
Gov. Beshear, Lt. Gov. Coleman Waive Testing Fees for GED® -
We wouldn't have gotten through this the way we did if it weren't for the Kentucky Commission on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. From the bottom of our hearts - thank you.
