This literally goes with the theme of the game, as its Chief showing he's not just a machine.
"Disrespects the source material" Noodle, we have known what Chief looks like since 01 with The Fall Of Reach.
@LtCameron88
Idk why people are apparently surprised that he was white or something. I thought him being white was common knowledge among fans even before Halo 4 came out
@LtCameron88
After he undergoes the augmentation and sends his dead squad into the vacuum of space, it changes him. His lost a piece of his humanity that day. You're not supposed to see his face from that point forward. The Halo 4 tease was cheap and shallow by comparison
@KennyGoo
Chief lost about 33 Spartan IIs from augmentations, and he watched the loss of Samuel-034.
Even after Samuel's death, he still had some humanity, but he mostly was a machine.
Halo 4 is about Chief rediscovering he is human, not a machine, so it works here
@LtCameron88
I gave my peace in that thread, but I think there's the perspective of chief's function within the fiction that people ignore when they defend this reveal.
@LtCameron88
He was better as a mystery tbh. No one needed to know who he is, anyone could project onto him. Now we know heβs white .
He was also better as just a cool voice that did one liners, heβs really boring now
@LtCameron88
Not to mention he was shown in the live action Halo 4 trailer, and also in the graphic novels / comics. The "I don't read the books" response doesn't work as he's literally been shown in other media too.
@LtCameron88
"but it's not about the face, it's about the fact that it was the first thing 343 did after Bungie had the balls to never show it."
Like, c'mon.
"but the mystery." 1st, we ALWAYS had descriptions and depictions of his face. 2nd, you only see this for a second after beating the game on Legendary. 3rd, they didn't really show his face, just his (shadowd) eyes -for narrative purposes-; his overall face is still a 'mystery.'
@LtCameron88
It continues to be true that halo βfansβ only get mad when 343 does stuff thatβs been in the lore / common knowledge forever. Nothings allowed to be expanded upon to these people
@LtCameron88
i mean, i think the worst way to be too serious about "hiding the face is important" is when it's not for hiding their identity from others or the audience so i don't understand the hate for making chief an actually written character
