Are you still masking? If you are, please tell me so I don't feel so much like a fucking alien freak. I was called 'hysterical' today because I am still concerned about COVID. That was fun.
Well, my relationship finally ended for good over COVID. Someone point me to a COVID-Informed dating site for when I'm ready. :(

I was recently told that I was a βfucking narcissistβ because I donβt want to catch COVID, and that Iβm a βconspiracy theoristβ because I believe COVID can cause permanent damage and is bad for you. Good times :/
This current wave feels more surreal than others. COVID wastewater hasn't been this high in forever, but nobody is masking, and everyone is just out partying w/o a care in the world. As sickness and hospitallizations climb. Help me stay strong, CC friends. It's so tough.
#MaskUp
I'm in an indoor meeting with 25 other people who have PhDs. There's ONE mask in the entire room--mine. Having an advanced degree does not equal being smart.

I'll be masking and avoiding SARS-CoV2 until there are:
1. neutralizing vaccines
2. cures for long covid
3. proven preventative sprays/medicines
4. widespread efforts to clean shared air via HEPAs, FarUV, etc.
5. easy, quick, accurate, cheap, breathalyzer-type COVID tests
I'm convinced that COVID causes folks to take risks. A friend who was SO CAREFUL for YEARS got COVID a while ago and ever since doesn't mask, goes to crowded concerts, and just boarded a cruise ship. I only know 1 person who has had COVID and who is still careful.

friend: wanna come to an xmas party with me?
me: sure, but just so you know, I'm gonna be masked
friend: but it's outside!
me: but outside isn't magic, so if it's crowded, I'll be masking
friend: nevermind, I don't want you to come anymore
Yβall masking?? π
#YallMasking
i posted this pic a couple days ago and the anti mask assholes came out in full force to bring their fuckery. Guess what, assholes? This ainβt for yβall, itβs for the smart, kind, compassionate, critical folx still masking! Solitary, yβall! β€οΈβ€οΈ
Trying to not get sick in a world determined to infect you with pretty much every virus under the sun is legit exhausting. I feel like I'm surrounded by sick people. I broke down in tears again this afternoon because it's all so fucking exhausting.

@jcaroccio
stay strong. my entire family mocks me and I've definitely lost friends over it. but I haven't gotten covid yet and don't want to. we know so much, and we are smart enough to be avoiding it. stay the course! you're not alone!
#NOVAVAX
folks -- I got my 2nd shot in December and have been worried about whether a 3rd would be available when I need one this summer as a booster -- just talked to pharmacist at Costco and he said he heard TODAY that gov't is buying more next month. RELIEF! pass it on.
@twee_i_a
Right? Like, wearing a mask doesn't seem like that big of a deal, for someone you love. But it didn't shake out that way. I wanna heal and then put myself out there to find what I deserve.
a friend who tested positive for COVID 6 days ago, feels fine now and just tested negative on a RAT, wants to hang out. when is it safe to do so? i'm cautious and want to wait at least 10 days, regardless of how many negative tests. what say you, covid cautious friends?
@Nantanreikan
I hope this is a prank/joke. if not, this just reinforces my belief that people are so absolutely disgusting that I want to just stay away from everyone forever.
I let me my friend know about my comfort levels, and requests to wait longer and test more, and they are perfectly happy to comply. I wish more people were like this.
@Michael59503746
@kim_crawley
Yeah, it exploded spectacularly there at the end. But was building for 3 years. The final "fuck you and your COVID caution" was the match that burned the whole thing down. :/ Rough. Really rough. :/
same. it's exhausting being covid cautious in a let-er-rip world, but i come here and am constantly reminded that the covid cautious of the world are on the correct side of history and health, so i carry on. <3 you're not alone!

When I feel discouraged or exhausted by my efforts to keep my family as safe from COVID as I possibly can, I come to this place and read about the latest studies depicting the damage that the infection and it's long term consequences can unleash.
I'm immediately replenished.
Keep the comments coming, folks! This somehow totally took off, and I think it might be because lots of us who are still masking needed and wanted to see like-minded folks who are doing the same. Very grateful for all of you!
@1goodtern
One of my friends lost her premie baby 48 hours after birth. Her placenta was riddled with clots and the poor baby didnβt develop properly. My friend texted to ask if COVID affects pregnant women and babies and I had to share the heartbreaking truth with her :(
@Scoobiesshorts
someone I know got C19 a few months ago, we texted, I went to get her Pax from the drugstore and delivered it to her, we chatted outside of her house (me masked) for a few minutes. saw her recently and she has no memory of chatting with me, seeing me, having me deliver her meds.
can someone point me to that study folks sometimes mention -- where all the mice died after 10 rounds of COVID? thanks!
@MeetJess
@1goodtern
@TRyanGregory
Is Delta variant changing your behaviors? I am fully vaxxed and for the last 2 months I have been much more lax, not wearing masks and eating in restaurants. Now I am going back to masking up everywhere and not eating indoors. Curious, cause I have been told I'm being paranoid.
@Nicole_Lee_Sch
unless I'm 100% positive about what folks do, I default to assuming people aren't masking and aren't safe, and I make decisions accordingly. sucks. but I don't want to catch covid.
@pjhn22
I tried this, I lied, they gave it to me, then I quickly left before they could find me in the online database and know that I lied. I absolute abhor that protecting ourselves has come to this. ugh.
there's an awesome post over on ZCC: "2020 was the year of lockdowns, 2021 was the year of mass vaccination, 2022 was the year of mass infection, 2023 was the year of mass denial. Predictions for 2024?"
I have two: either MASS REGRET or MASS DELUSION.
#CovidIsNotOver
I know a party isnβt a big deal, but constantly being shamed for being safe or feeling that others are embarrassed to be seen with me is weighing heavy on my heart.

It's utterly exhausting being COVID cautious and trying to avoid catching and spreading COVID. But I will continue to do so, because embracing infection from a level 3 biohazard is just not something I'm going to willingly do.
I don't want to live this way, wearing a respirator the whole time, not eating indoors with folk outside our household, constantly alert, constantly defensive, constantly criticised.
But I know that the other way is wrong.
So until a better way comes along, I'll persist.
@a_lil_bow
thing is, they don't care. they think the science is still 'up in the air' so they will 'just wait and see', or they say they can find 50 studies that contradict whatever we would show them. they literally just don't want to know.
Tomorrow my son and I are going together to get our new Novavax shot. It will be my 4th Novavax, and his first after 3 mRNA (last one almost a year ago. I'm so relieved I could cry.

also I know it's probably a typo, but I'm going to adopt "acquittance" -- to refer to people who I used to be acquainted with but who I no longer want to have anything to do with because they are covid minimizers.
@Franken_hooker_
oh I hate that for you. I do not understand how eating outside or eating at home or wearing a mask is a dealbreaker. I will never understand.
@Sandyboots2020
@DonEford
I just had this same conversation and the person was like βwell that only happens to some people, and Iβm fine after two infections. I really am not worried. Shrug.β Ugh
@kdbk42
There are literally dozens of studies and more coming out every day that show that COVID damages every system! I donβt understand how people can still believe itβs all fine.
Just got back from a fancy Fry's (grocery store) in Chandler (wealthy-ish part of Phoenix). I saw 3 other people in masks (1 other customer and 2 workers). That's it! But I was happily masked! Keep masking, friends, we're gonna make it!
@IrishEcocritic
I was at a conference that made a huge deal about "no perfume" because of sensitivities. Which I'm totally on board with. But I also wondered why folks cared so much about scents but 0% about a deadly pathogen. Sigh. Also--it was a conference about environmental justice LOL.
@graeme_0
this is why I still mask and still avoid covid. I got told yesterday: "you're the only person in my orbit who still cares about covid. nobody understands it." and I said: "it's not my job to convince anyone anymore that covid is bad or to explain myself any longer."
Tempe Az here. Our mayor tested positive for covid yesterday. And I personally know 10 friends who were tested yesterday. This virus is closing in. It feels inevitable that we are all just going to get it at this rate. Wish us luck. :(
I was just in a live seminar here on twitter hosted by

@KashPrime
-- I love what they said about shifting language from "Covid Cautious" to "Covid Informed." YES! Gonna start using that now.

@CDCDirector
It's amazing that the 'experts' at the CDC don't know that COVID is a vascular disease, not a respiratory one. Thanks, Maskless Mandy, for completely abandoning us and making "public health" a joke.
I totally forgot that Ducey can't revoke something he never implemented in the first place. sigh. But I do think Abbott's decision will further embolden the antimaskers here in AZ to be even more shitty about not wearing masks.
@TheChefsGardens
oh man i got so excited for a minute that Neil Young was taking an ethical stance about SARS and community care. and then i read his real quote and got all sad again.
i have a friend who had COVID while pregnant and lost her baby due to the placenta not forming properly. breaks my heart. what are we doing to children? :(
@_Eric_Reinhart
"so many"=a very small percentage. why are we still masking? because public health as a collective endeavor has utterly failed us, and it's literally one of the only tools left that we can use to prevent us from catching and spreading a potentially lifelong debilitating disease.
@p0usr
yeah this is a 100% definite case -- tested positive on Sunday, so yes, absolutely a COVID case. gonna wait at least 14 days, possibly more! thanks for the info/input!
@twee_i_a
because I set my own boundaries about what I deem safe, and don't hang out with folks when they are sick or have been unmasked, etc., I apparently 'only care about myself'
Contrary to disinformation about masks on this site, we get enough oxygen to train hard, we don't get poisoned by CO2, nobody has gotten ill from breathing bacteria. Genuine commitment is immune to insults and name-calling.
And we've never had COVID transmission at the dojo.
@wideofthepost
@jakebackpack
Iβm in Arizona and other than a few weeks back in March and April 2020 life for 95% of folks is exactly how it was Pre-pandemic. Itβs astounding to me. And I feel terrible for HCWs who have to deal with overcrowded hospitals. But at least fucking Applebeeβs is wide open! Smdh. :/
peep the "COVID19positive" subreddit, you will see how many people are sick, and how ignorant people are about COVID. how is it that those of us providing true facts over there are doing the actual work of public health when the experts have checked out?
#CovidIsNotOver
I just checked the wastewater in the area of my town where the giant university is, and it is higher than it has been AT ANY POINT IN THE PANDEMIC. and yet..... crickets from the university, and nobody masking anywhere.
