My heart breaks for the Cowessess First Nation following the discovery of Indigenous children buried at the former Marieval Residential School. We cannot bring them back, but we will honour their memory and we will tell the truth about these injustices.

@Liv_F @JustinTrudeau Canceling Canada Day isn't going to bring anyone back. The majority will party/celebrate regardless in defiance and will make people resentful towards the situation. Not the appropriate way to remember and teach what was done

@christiaitsirhc @JustinTrudeau Sparing many mourning people of having to watch the Government of Canada say pretty things about reconciliation, on one hand, while, on the other, hosting celebrations on the graves of stolen children.

@Liv_F @JustinTrudeau I appreciate the sentiment, but cancelling Canada Day is the equivalent of offering thoughts and prayers. I would imagine indigenous people would prefer the government act on those calls to action from the TRC report instead.
