Fellow writers, you don't want just any agent.
You don't even want a good agent.
You want a good agent who loves your writing so much that they'll go to the mats for it. Enthusiasm makes a difference.
We now have 10 agents CONFIRMED and a few more in the pipeline. Submissions will take place toward the beginning of September, with the agent round to follow sometime in October. More

Beyond thrilled to announce that I'm now represented by
@jl_herrington
of
@HKLiterary
! My latest manuscript, about a 12-year-old adoptee searching for her birth mom, is a true book of my heart, and I'm so, so, SO, so glad that she loves it as much as I do.
Chris said that he was proud of the four book deals I landed in a less-than-four-year span--but that he was even prouder of my grit and perseverance over the last six-plus years in which I haven't landed anything.
#PitchMe
entries are all in, so now
@TaraShiroff
and I can get to work! Here's the final breakdown:
88+55=143 PBs
26+20=46 MGs
33+16=49 YAs
31+14=45 adults
That's 283 total entries. Finalists will be announced on Wednesday, September 21!

And that's a wrap! The last time I did this, I ended up receiving about 20 queries. This time, I received more than 10 times that amount, so please be patient with me as I read and respond to EVERY SINGLE ONE!
It's
#PitchMe
day today! As always, everyone is welcome to comment, QT, and RT, but please leave the liking for agents and editors.
Also, huge shout-out to
@TaraShiroff
, my
#PitchMe
partner-in-crime. Always appreciate her help!
I've now read all the
#PitchMe
entries for the novels (MG, YA, and adult) and have my eye on several favorites (plus a bunch more on my longlist). Now it's on to the PBs!
@JWMediaDC
An alliance won't save the Pac-12 in its present form; only a merger will. But this may honestly still be their best option, as SDSU, Colorado State, and/or UNLV would all owe a $34 million exit fee.
@DHawkinsAuthor
Literally just did this, and my 13yo came up with a better title off the top of her head than any of the ones I've come up with so far!
Today is
#PitchMe
day, so feel free to play along and RT or comment on your favorite entries! But for our finalists' blood pressure's sake, please only like an entry if you're an agent. Let's go!
#NaNoWriMo
update: just hit 50,000 words in slightly less than 30 days, most of which were in November, so I'm calling this a WIN! *blows kazoo, pops sparkling cider*
What have I been working on? A sweet holiday romance--IN SPACE.
I *think* I've now responded to every request for
#PitchMe
feedback I've received. If I somehow missed yours, feel free to follow up (and if you'd still like some feedback, feel free to respond to your original submission)!
I remember Twitter's good ol' days, when it streamed every tweet, in order, from the people you follow instead of scores of random tweets on topics you Googled last week.
#PitchMe
finalists announced:
I know this comes as a letdown to the majority of you, so I'm once again offering feedback to EVERYONE who entered. More details in the post.
Shout-out to
@jl_herrington
, agent extraordinaire and all-around good person, for thinking of things before I do and, you know, for putting up with my writerly paranoia:) So glad to have you in my corner, Jenn!
My mom asked yesterday how things were going with my book, and I told her (meh), and then she admitted that she couldn't do what I do, couldn't keep putting herself out there and getting told no, no, no. (1/x)
Top 5* k-dramas I've seen and would recommend (in order):
1. Crash Landing on You
2. Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha
3. Romance Is a Bonus Book
4. Start-Up
*Will update as I see more!
A young writer recently asked me what editors are looking for right now, and I said authenticity. I think they want compelling stories informed by their authors' lives, which is a perspective every writer can write from. Just write what makes you unique.
#PitchMe
agent spotlight:
@ElisaHouot
works at
@seymouragency
and is looking for a little bit of everything: non-rhyming PBs, several genres of MG, lots of genres of YA, and adult romance and cozy mystery.
More info on my blog!
Friends and family have asked me when I'll stop wearing a mask every time I leave the house.
I will stop doing my best to curtail the spread of COVID when our hospitals aren't full and we aren't losing five or ten Utahns to COVID every day.

#PitchMe
entries this morning (as I've done almost every morning since last Wednesday), and the first three I read all made it onto my longlist. You guys aren't making this easy!
Just hit 30,000 words in the YA fantasy I've been drafting. At 10,000 words a week, the going has been a little slower than I've wanted it to be, but at least I

again!
Thirty-seven years ago today, my parents got the call that they could come and pick me up from the adoption agency, so January 26 was almost like my second birthday.
Didn't mean to
#NaNoWriMo
, but I'm 20,000 words into the Shiny New Idea I started on November 7, so I guess I kind of am? (I've never NaNoed before, so I don't know what I'm doing!)
EARTH TO DAD's cover is up over at
@TheKidliterati
, and spoiler alert--it's a-ma-zing: Designer Tracy McCabe and illustrator
@JBricking
really outdid themselves. Definitely check it out!
@CapstonePub
There is a slim chance that I finish the next draft of my MG novel-in-verse this week, but most likely next. Either way, I'm SO excited to start sending this story out into the world. It's really grown on me.
I've been unusually chill about the waiting, waiting, waiting that this business puts you through, but sometimes it sneaks up on me, and I just want to hear SOMETHING. 'Tis the season for rejections, though, so maybe not-hearing is better?
I've been fortunate enough to traditionally publish four books, and I'm still duking it out with an industry that never quits. Maybe someday I'll decide I'm ready to hang up my gloves, but that day isn't today. I still have tales I want to tell. (4/4)
Randomly picked up
@WriterJuneHur
's THE RED PALACE at the library, realized it's a Korean historical, and will now be ordering everything she's ever written.
I’m diving in today to the
#PitchMe
picture books…and I’m already in trouble. Three books in and I love them all so much! What a talented group this year!
@KristaVanDolzer
I can’t wait for our chat about these incredible books! Thank you authors for trusting us with your work.
