The re-thatching of the 'Thatched House Museum' has now been
completed. It is so nice for our youngsters to learn the skill of thatching & see how their great/grandparents lived. For any tourists visiting the island they can rent the house for a night or two.

Its a lovely day to offload the MFV Geo Searcher, finally we will have a taste of fresh fruit and veg! We haven't received any fresh produce since March, although people grow a fair amount, we are in winter, so the crop has been minimal...🥑🍑🫐🍒🍓🍇🥦🥝🍉🍋🍊🍌🥭🍅🌽🥕
Today saw the exciting visit of

Today the pensioners & some of the government work force are busy thatching the 'The Thatched House Museum'. This is the kind of house the first settlers lived in, although the thatch would have been tussock until later years.

Tristan da Cunha is one of the most isolated spots in the world. Only 250 people live here. The only way of travelling in and out of Tristan is by boat, a 1237 miles, six-day trip from Cape Town, South Africa which operates only 9 times in one year!
Aternoon walk to the east of the harbour - picture shows 2 life boats that have been here for many years. They came off the oil rig that watched up in Trypot Bay in 2006.

The potato crops are coming up nicely...it is a long process but 100% worth it when you can taste home grown Tristan potatoes. We also make our own homemade crisps. I have been all over the🌍& I can safely say, they are the best! 🥔

It's been such a beautiful Saturday, unusual weather for July, but we are not complaining. Many made the most of the day by going fishing. These are 'Five Fingers' the most common fish caught on

It looks like its going to be a good week weather wise starting form today. The 'gong' rung to indicate it was a fishing day! Also a Fisheries team has gone to inaccessible island, tomorrow a conservation team is planning 2 head to Nightingale for a few weeks.
#tristandacunha
How to get to
#tristandacunha
, when there is no space on the scheduled cargo/fishing ships. Take a massive risk, hop on a cruise ship in Capetown, 6 days to TDC to find the harbour is not workable. Get transfered to a fishing vessel for 5 days until weather is suitable to land!😲
The MV Lance arrived yesterday morning after almost 2 weeks!! Unfortunately yesterday the weather was not favourable to disembark passengers, so she heading over to Inaccessible Island for the night. She arrived back this morning & to everyone's delight passengers came ashore!
Hopefully this will be the last day offloading the MV Baltic Trader & she will her on her way back to Capetown this afternoon. The MFV Edinburgh is also due to disembark her passengers this afternoon. 🤞 we will receive some fresh fruit & veg 🍊🍎🍏🍐🥭
