Update: I have signed on to be a scouting & college football analyst for
@CFN365
. I’m fired up to work with some awesome people and expand my coverage to all 134 FBS teams. Thank you to
@CamMellor
,
@ojhodgkinson
and
@DavidBearmanPFN
for believing in me. Can’t wait to get started.
“We’re not scared of anything. We’re from Texas. Not as fancy as California. Especially Palo Alto. We’re ready for anything.” -Jose Gonzalez on ESPN post game when asked about how chippy it was.
G.J. Kinne is getting a raise. New deal with
#TXST
pays $1 million a year for five years with incentives for eight-plus wins and Sun Belt titles. One of the highest paid coaches in the conference now.
Sources: Texas State and coach GJ Kinne have agreed to a new five-year contract through 2028. Kinne, 35, led Texas State to the school’s first-ever bowl game during his first season in 2023. Texas State went 7-5, upset Baylor and scored more than 50 points three times.
I’m hearing no
#TXST
seniors opted out of the First Responders Bowl today. No injuries either with a month between games. Haven’t seen the Bobcats like this since before the Baylor game.
#TXST
QB TJ Finley announcing he’s coming back to the Bobcats this season. Set the single-season passing record for the program his first season. Back for an encore in 2024.
BREAKING:
#TXST
guard Nijal Pearson will be named Sun Belt player of the year this afternoon. Pearson became the all-time leading scorer at Texas State this year and finished the regular season as the conference scoring leader with 19.3 PPG.
Season 15 was the best one and it’s not even done yet. My eavesdropping skills revealed that Frisco and New Orleans are the two likeliest destinations for
#TXST
’s first bowl. I’m cool with either.
#TXST
COMMIT: Auburn QB TJ Finley. First season at LSU before the last two at Auburn. 18 games with 11 starts in the SEC. Has two years left. Listed at 6’7”, 250 pounds.
Breaking: Brady McBride will start at quarterback for
#TXST
against
#SMU
this Saturday. Set to start the first game he is eligible to play for the Bobcats.
Back in San Marcos and just recorded
#WNOGB
No. 150. Didn’t need any prep for this one. Look out for that tonight.
No thumbnail yet, but here’s a pic of me and G.J. fresh off his Gatorade bath.
Breaking:
#TXST
and
#SMU
have agreed to move up the season opener in San Marcos from Sept. 5 to Aug. 29. Sun Belt keeping nonconference and eight-game conference schedule. Official announcement coming later today.
#TXST
will begin fall camp this morning.
Hearing it’s a two-man race for the
#TXST
job:
#SHSU
HC KC Keeler and
#WSU
OC Eric Morris.
Zoom interviews yesterday, second round of in-person later this week.
#UIW
HC GJ Kinne was considered, but consensus is he’s going to
#Tulsa
.
Decision should be made by this weekend.
Update: Jordan McCloud is already on
#TXST
campus and will participate in spring practice. Didn’t have to wait for the transfer portal window (April 16-30) because he enrolled in eight-week sessions that start next week.
BREAKING: Former James Madison QB and 2023 Sun Belt Player of the Year, Jordan McCloud, commits to the Texas State Bobcats.

Breaking:
#TXST
AD Larry Teis is stepping down effective August 31, 2021 according to an email sent out to employees. Don Coryell will be the interim AD.
#TXST
volleyball coach Karen Chisum is retiring after 40 years as head coach of the Bobcats. She finishes her career with a 919-559-3 record and 11 conference championships, including back-to-back regular season and tournament championships her last two seasons.
There have been a number of severe injuries to
#TXST
players over the last four years. 2015 had over a dozen season-ending injuries to players. Since 2016, a handful of players’ careers have ended due mainly to concussions. I have sources telling me this is not a coincidence:
Hearing from multiple sources that former
#JMU
QB Jordan McCloud committed to
#TXST
over the weekend. Should be announced soon. The 2023 Sun Belt Player of the Year will be in San Marcos next season. Massive recruiting coup for G.J. Kinne and the Bobcats.
#TXST
coach G.J. Kinne credited the crowd for motivating the team on that game winning drive. Also said they wanted that 5th win bad. “It was our Super Bowl.”
The mindset change for
#TXST
athletics admins over the last few years has been remarkable to watch. Wasn’t too long this place let a Powerade bill lapse leaving the FB team without anything to drink. Now they are prepping for a bowl with the highest paid coach in the conference .
Harrowing footage of former
#TXST
safety Justin Iwuji being kidnapped by his roommate at gunpoint. Thankfully he escaped with minor injuries. The roommate, former Midwestern State WR Josh DeLoach, still at large.
WANTED: Joshua N. DeLoach, 29, seen below, is charged with aggravated robbery & aggravated kidnapping in an incident at 322 Eado Park Circle on May 8.

Texas State FB news:
Confirmed per source, Barrick Nealy will be the Bobcats’ running backs coach. Nealy spent the last 6 seasons at UTEP, most recently as RB/Asst. HC.
Nealy played QB for
#TXST
from 2003-05, leaving as the school’s all-time leading passer. A legend goes home.
On Tuesday, Texas State:
• Played in their first-ever bowl game
• Drank the stadium's beer by the 3rd quarter
• Won their first-ever bowl game
• Stormed the field
• Drew 26,542 fans — a larger crowd than any SMU home game there this year
#TXST
should be proud. Three outs away from hosting a Super Regional. Gut-wrenching ending to an incredible season. Had the No. 2 team on the ropes.
But we’ve seen what’s possible now. Time for Trout and Co. to build on that foundation.
Watching the
#TXST
-
#Nevada
broadcast. Here’s G.J. Kinne celebrating a 77-yard touchdown by Kole Wilson that made it a three-point game. Don’t think anyone was more irritated by that first half than him.
#TXST
replaced its QB for one with tons of baggage based somewhat on the character evaluation of one its coaches. That coach then left for another job a week later. What the hell is going on with the Bobcats?
I knew G.J. would have an ace up his sleeve. The reigning Sun Belt Player of the Year is one helluva draw.
#TXST
back to being Sun Belt favs in my book.
BREAKING: Former James Madison QB and 2023 Sun Belt Player of the Year, Jordan McCloud, commits to the Texas State Bobcats.

Lots of
#TXST
folks coming forward. Can’t put all out there yet but here’s some:
When Withers signed in Jan. 2016, Teis said TXST would cover his $350k buyout from JMU. They didn’t, forcing Withers to negotiate to $250k and pay out of pocket.
Good news: I’ve confirmed that
#TXST
DB Chris Mills has been released from the hospital and is back with the team. Not sure the extent of his injuries but it’s at least not as serious as feared.
#TXST
officially announces Barrick Nealy as the running backs coach. Former quarterback for the Bobcats, Nealy is third in career passing yards at Texas State.
