The 49ers trading for Emmanuel Sanders helped Deebo Samuel more than anyone. Since the trade, Deebo is 10th in the NFL in receptions and ninth in yards. He has the third-most yards after the catch, and has forced more missed tackles than anyone.
A rookie.
Kyle Shanahan called out the 49ers defensive line in the team meeting last night, specifically Nick Bosa, saying the linebackers outplayed them against the Saints.
Bosa went up to Shanahan after his last sack and said “don’t talk shit about me anymore.”
if your argument is that Purdy pads his stats with YAC, you're ignoring history.
48.5% of Purdy's passing yards this season have came after the catch. the average YAC for the past 10 MVP QBs was 48%. Pat Mahomes was at 54% last year.
Oklahoma’s ’17 offense:
QB Baker Mayfield
QB Kyler Murray
RB Rodney Anderson
RB Trey Sermon
WR Marquise Brown
WR CeeDee Lamb
TE Mark Andrews
OG Cody Ford
OG Ben Powers
OT Orlando Brown
The kinda questions the players are getting asked this week:
“Would you get a tattoo of Brock Purdy’s face anywhere on your body, if you were guaranteed a Super Bowl win?”
Dre Greenlaw: “Man, that shits weird.”
/Thinks about it longer.
“Of course I would.”
Brandon Aiyuk is 44 yards away from his first career 1,000-yard season. Robbie Gould knew that and wanted Aiyuk to get that milestone in Nevada, where Aiyuk went to high school. What a great teammate.
Kyle Shanahan was asked a question, then the reporter pushed back on him, and Shanahan went on a rant about the difference between an offseason QB coach outside the building and what a position coach does during the week.
"I understand. I don't think you understand."
The 49ers are 16-0 when Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, and Deebo Samuel finish the game.
They've outscored their opponents 529 to 239. 12 of those 16 wins have been by 13+.
If what you're watching feels like something you haven't seen before, it's because you haven't.
we hoop saturday mornings and had a new guy show up. this 5'7, 150-pound dude was talking trash nonstop. but he was legit. like, peja with handles, how is he so good legit. turns out this person was aj preller, gm of the padres.
Jauan Jennings in his first game back after a concussion had a season-high 61 yards and the 49ers needed every last one of his 5 catches. He stepped up big time without Deebo and proved his worth.
after the 49ers bye week, Jason Verrett lined up against M. Thomas, Diggs, McLaurin, Hopkins, and DK Metcalf 19 times. Verrett allowed 11 receptions for 72 yards and zero touchdowns. That’s 3.8 yards per target against the top WRs in the NFL.
Javon Kinlaw made the stop on 3rd down to force the first 4th down attempt. Kinlaw leads all DTs in tackles during the playoffs. He has the second-highest win percentage as a pass rusher, too, for DTs.
There is no luck involved here. At about the 22-yard line, the DB impedes Brandon Aiyuk's progress. A clear penalty. The ref throws the flag for a reason
If you run inverted Cover 2 then you deserve everything that happens post-snap. The football gods weren't rewarding the Lions
3rd & 2. We know where this ball would've gone in years past. You see it every game with Brock Purdy. He's not interested in the first-level route. The designs have always gotten WRs open deep. Now the 49ers have someone willing to throw it. That's why they're rolling. Simple.
49ers QB Brock Purdy was on the Kelce bros "New Heights" pod and they asked him to tell his best trash talking story from the NFL.
"The Seahawks LB was just cussing me out, telling me like, dude, you're white. You can't high step me."
The Kelce's reaction. So good.
Bosa didn't have a sack last, but he had three QB hits, and I'd bet he had double-digit pressures.
Deebo went over 100 through the air and ran for a TD.
Greenlaw had 11 solo tackles, one for a loss, a QB hit, and the game-winning tackle.
Hell of a day for the 49ers rookies.
sounds like trey lance’s third career start could be a must-win on the road against the rams to make the playoffs, and his fourth start could be a playoff game on the road against tom brady.
welcome to the nfl.
I think Greenlaw is going to take a big jump next season. He’s always been fast, but there’s no hesitation in his game, and his confidence went through the roof the past month. He wasn’t celebrating like this before. He’s starting to realize how good he is
49ers Fred Warner was named the NFC defensive player of the month for November.
He led all LBs in the NFL in run stops and forced fumbles during the month. He was second in sacks and pass breakups. He's a star and there's no reason to pretend otherwise.
Spicy Shanahan at the podium. "Do you guys watch other teams in this league? That's a very normal play. Buffalo does it with their QB all the time. You guys should watch other teams play."
We’ve normalized Fred Warner carrying wide receivers that run a 4.4 and walling them off 30 yards down the middle of the field. We shouldn’t. Here he is running with Jerry Jeudy.
1:15 on the clock with 80 yards to go. Trey Lance goes 5-for-6 with a third down conversion, a scramble, and explosive play to Kittle, and a 15-yard TD to McCloud in the end zone to end practice.
#49ersCamp
Edge rushers in the NFL last year who had a higher win percentage than Omenihu as a pass rusher:
Myles Garrett
Nick Bosa
Micah Parsons
Za'Darius Smith
Trey Hendrickson
Omenihu was also in the top 15 in total pressures. He turns 26 in August. He will not be an easy replacement.
I dont wanna hear another positive word about him for the rest of the year. he is what he is. it's the same thing. nothing has changed. the apologists are pathetic. let's call a spade a spade.
Cardale Jones talking about how Philip Rivers went back to a 2007 game to figure out a blitz the Cardinals had success on this year. This is unreal attention to detail
I'd imagine Fred Warner gives a passionate speech at halftime that tells the 49ers to win it for Dre and not let up cause this game isn't close to over.
Greenlaw is the heartbeat and enforcer on this squad. There's no replacing him, but the DL is playing lights out.
Asked Shanahan if he sees Deebo having that Derrick Henry effect, and if he feels the energy rub off on the 49ers as defenders bounce off Samuel. Kyle went on a rant.
Charvarius Ward has allowed fewer than 50 yards in 12 of 14 games this season despite being one of the most targeted cornerbacks in the NFL.
Ward is also tied for second in pass breakups and fourth in run stops among all CBs. He's what the 49ers' defense was missing last year.
players in the top 10 in drops last year per pff: deebo, tyreek, ja'marr chase, justin jefferson, a.j. brown, cooper kupp, keenan allen, d.j. moore, ceedee lamb.
drops are one of the most overrated stats that come without context.
Deebo Samuel had the most drops (12) in the NFL last season. It’s his ability to demolish defenders in space — as both a WR and RB —that’s made him so valuable.
That value has been unlocked by Shanahan’s usage, but Samuel now says he has concerns with that usage
The difference between 4th & 10 & 4th and 5 on the same drive. I don't know what you do differently here if you're the Packers DB. The definition of "there's no defense for a perfect throw."
The Browns scored 40 points last week. They just punted for the seventh time, are 1-11 on third down, and are averaging 3.9 yards per play. This 49ers defense, man….
my jimmy garoppolo take is that he’s not as good as the homer fans think he is, but he’s a lot better than the national media thinks. it was jimmy’s first full offseason, and he came off an ACL injury. i’d file him under “good enough” and see if he improves in 2020.
Trent Williams is a unicorn. The 49ers had no choice to pay him whatever he wanted based on how he played in 2020. He’s a left tackle with a highlight tape.
Brandon Marshall and Pac man Jones are here….Marshall asked Kyle Shanahan what his go-to play is after saying Mike Shanahan’s is “trips right Y stick lookie.”
Kyle’s answer: “Lookie Jaguar. I wanna give my WR a two-way go.”
And now, the yards left on the field. Try & think about what Shanahan wants in these plays. He’s a hi/lo gawd. The QB should be throwing away from the safety rotation. The underneath routes suck up the LBs, leaving the second level wide open. It's there. Repeatedly.
Herbstreit said this was DPI cause Womack never got his head around and didn’t let the WR make a play on the ball. Womack turns and looks as soon as the WR does. IMO this was Womack’s best rep of the game.
Just got off a zoom call with Aiyuk’s position coach. He’s been coaching WRs for 40 years. He said Torry Holt is the best wideout he’s ever coached, but Aiyuk is the closest WR he’s had to Holt.
“His ceiling is so high. He’s just starting to reach his potential.”

Trent Williams would uppercut both of these clowns into the sun if this happened anywhere outside of a stadium.
Fans suck cause they treat athletes like animals knowing damn well there will be no repercussions for their actions. It’s one of the worst parts of sports.
jimmy threw a pick on his second throw of practice. it was off his back foot in the red zone. 54 went up and high-pointed it.
lance, on the next two plays, gets to his third progression for a tuddy to sanu then runs a QB counter with kittle as the lead blocker for a score.
Twitter: the nfl is stale. All they do is recycle coaches. Give some of these young dudes a chance.
Also twitter: how are you gonna hire a guy with no experience, hasn’t called plays, or has a losing record?!?
