At Approximately 8:13 PM this evening (Monday)... Our Longview TowerCam, I believe, was stuck by lightning. This is the last photo that was actually shown on the feed. So, we may not be able to show a Downtown Longview TowerCam shot for a while. WOW!!!
With the high, thin clouds out there tonight, a wonderful ‘ring around the moon’ is out there. Looks really nice. The light from the moon is being reflected through the ice crystals in the clouds causing the ring. Just FYI.
The Winter Storm Warning for East Texas has been cancelled early. Snow flurries and a few sleet pellets will be possible through afternoon, but little to no accumulation is expected.
"WE'RE TEXANS. TEXANS ARE ALWAYS RESILIENT. AND WE WILL ONCE AGAIN, AS WE ALWAYS DO, SHOW THE WORLD HOW TEXANS RESPOND WHEN WE COME TOGETHER. WHEN WE COME TOGETHER NOTHING CAN DEFEAT US. INSTEAD WHEN WE COME TOGETHER, TOGETHER WE WILL DEFEAT COVID-19 IN TEXAS."- GOV. ABBOTT
The Santification Process is complete. Now, all we need is you to join us at the Holiday in the Garden event tomorrow at the Tyler Rose Garden. It all gets started at 10 AM with vendors, fun and more. At about 3:30, Santa Scirto will arrive for pictures. The pictures are free.
The latest from the Storm Prediction Center has placed the entire KLTV viewing area in the Moderate Risk for severe weather on Friday. This is a 45% chance of significant severe weather. Strong winds of 70-80 MPH are likely in the stronger storms along with isolated tornadoes.
East Texas...We have a wonderful opportunity to view the International Space Station this evening beginning at 7:00 PM. Skies will be crystal clear, so this will be a great chance to get everyone outside to view this amazing sight. Please pass this on!!!
Just going to vent here just a bit...
On my way home for lunch, I let 2 people in on Broadway as I was heading south. 2 different cars...2 different reasons. Neither driver smiled or waved. Nothing. I will continue to be nice on the roads, others need to be nicer. Yes? Okay, done
Record low temperatures once again shattered this morning across East Texas. This will be the coldest morning of the week, but another winter storm is on the way to East Texas tomorrow.
New this morning, the National Hurricane Center is watching an area near the Yucatan Peninsula for potential tropical cyclone development. They've given it a 40% chance of formation in the next 5 days.
I know it doesn't feel like Fall out there, but I have been looking at the extended forecast models and for the 5th day in a row, it is indicating a strong/fall-like cold front to move into ETX on, or near, October 3rd! FINGERS CROSSED...Much Cooler Air!!!
Just one week ago, high temperatures were brutally cold across East Texas. Just one week later...It feels like Spring. Only in Texas. Tomorrow, we are looking for mid-70s for highs. Enjoy the sun and spring-like temperatures.
Heavy snow bands are moving through now and more is on the way overnight. Travel is already hazardous and will become worse through the morning hours. Stay home and stay warm! The entire First Alert Weather Team will have the latest information tonight on East Texas News at 10.
FYI - Here is a map of East Texas with all of the counties labeled. Just make sure you KNOW what county you live in as more information is given on Hurricane Laura.
A Large Plume of Saharan Dust has moved over the Central Atlantic Ocean and is moving westward. This is an annual, or nearly every year occurrence, and it is likely to move over the Gulf of Mexico by the middle part of next week. We will update you often.
More Saharan Dust is likely to move into ETX for a few days starting Wednesday. Another wave of dust will likely make it to East Texas by this weekend and yet another just a few day after that. So, Hazy Skies are likely while this dust is in our area.
"I wouldn't touch you a...39 and a half foot pole" ... but at least at the end, he was a Nice Grinch! I think this is one of my all-time favorites in my collection. I hope you like it too. Tie

. Ho Ho Ho!
THE ROADS ARE VERY, VERY ICY!!! I took this photo on S. Broadway (Tyler) at Loop 323, heading South. The roads are DANGEROUS! Some places are better than others, but this is what most of the roads look like now! I was stopped. I stop waaaay behind the cars in front of me.
If you run outside...or you can walk, too...you will see the moon and Jupiter is just below and to the right of it. Nothing major just looks kinda cool. JFYI
Tonight's Full Moon is the Harvest Moon...closest full moon to the Atumnal Equinox. Fall Officially begins on Wednesday afternoon. Best news, it will feel like fall on Wednesday as a cold front moves through tomorrow. Excellent Timing! Enjoy!!!
The COLDEST air of the season is slated for WEDNESDAY AM. Frost and even our first FREEZE are possible. Record Lows in Longview/Lufkin, I believe are safe, but Tyler may break a record on Wed AM. Normal First Frost is MID-NOVEMBER, so this is early!
Just FYI... Here is a map of East Texas with all of the counties listed. You may want to put this on your desktop or print a copy for a reference sheet during severe weather coverage. Hope you find this helpful...
If you have watched for any length of time, you know I love golf. This tie makes me want to get out there and play. I may have to do that soon. Weather looks pretty good, actually. What do you think of this one?
I am so happy to say..."Only One More Night". A Hard Freeze Warning is in effect as low temperatures are expected back into the teens in the morning. Please keep it up! Only 1 more night!!!
"It's a deer! It's a deer!"
Responding to a burglary call, police bust into a Texas house, guns drawn—but the culprit was unable to put its hands up. Chaos ensued as the officers tried to get the panicked deer out of the house.
A Cold Front....Well, A Cool Front anyway...is expected to move into East Texas on Wednesday. Hot and Dry for Tuesday and then rain moves in on Wednesday with the front. Highs near 100 through Wednesday, then only into the lower 90s on Thursday.
Here is a map of East Texas showing all of our counties. May be of some help to you. Find yours...know the counties that surround you and you will be ahead of the severe weather game...for sure.
It may look like fog...but it is smoke moving into the Eastern sections of TX from agricultural fires in Mexico Central America being brought into our area from the south. Hopefully, the front that moves through today and tonight will drive this out.
Comparing 2022 and "The Year Of Heat" - 2011... This year is still behind on total days of 100 degrees or more. 18 fewer 100 degree days in Tyler, 19 fewer days for Longview and only 8 fewer days for the city of Lufkin. Come on Fall!!! .. Just 36 days.
Some good news to share with you. The Storm Prediction Center has taken a good part of ETX out of the Enhanced Risk for the rest of the night, therefore, I have dropped the Hail Risk back to Medium, rather than high. Please remain Weather Alert. Storms are likely overnight.
LOOK!!!! Below normal temperatures and Above normal rainfall for much of the southcentral U.S... including East Texas. I like this kind of extended forecast. This comes from the Climate Predication Center and is valid from August 26 through September 01. YAY!!!
Look... Up in the sky. It's a Bird...it's a plane...no, not Superman, but a total lunar eclipse. This will occur Sunday night. All of the details are on the graphics. Enjoy. Bundle Up and take lots of pictures and send them along. Thanks in advance.
I hope this helps...just a little. Just 37 days until Fall. As always, will it feel even a little like fall when fall begins? Let's hope it is a little cooler, anyway. Have a great weekend, East Texas.
What a beautiful day to view some of God's Creations. The Azaleas are in full bloom across East Texas...especially in Tyler. Come by this weekend and check them out.
East Texas.... Please take this line of thunderstorms seriously. As the storms move through ETX, winds of 70-80 mph or more will be possible. Secure all loose objects so that they don't cause more issues. Please stay indoors when these storms move through. Please remain Alert.
Update on the Tropical Low, now over the central Gulf of Mexico. It continues to move WNW at 10 mph and may become a tropical depression within the next 24-48 hours. As far as ETX is concerned, this will only be a moderate rain maker on Fri/Sat and Sun.
It looks like our extended period of chilly and wet conditions will come to an end...at least temporarily starting next week. Slightly Above Normal Temperatures are expected along with Near Normal Precipitation...which is not really too much for late November/Early December.
Landfall of Major Hurricane Ian is just a short time from now along the Sanibel/Pine Island areas. Winds remain just below Category 5 levels, at 155 mph with gusts near 190 mph. You can check on Ian on your KLTV Weather App at any time.

Okay...Warning!!! Daylight Saving Time Begins NEXT WEEKEND! NOT this weekend. So... NEXT Saturday night before bed or officially on Sunday morning, March 10th, at 2 AM...we all set our clocks AHEAD 1 Hour. We will lose an hour of sleep, but gain the extra daylight during the eve.
Okay... Here is my favorite Christmas Tie. Why? Because of the "other end" of the tie with the little Grinch on it. I am not a grinch, but this tie makes me happy. I hope you like it, too. Enjoy, and please don't be a Grinch this Christmas Season.
At this time, most all of the wintry precipitation has moved out of East Texas. A few flurries, maybe some sleet will be possible...but not much more is expected tonight...Just Cold!!! Continue to stay warm!!! Winter Storm Warnings Continue.
Tropical Depression

has formed over the Open Atlantic Ocean. When this system becomes a tropical storm, which it should within the next 24 hours or so, it will be named Josephine. Looks as if this system will have no impacts on the Gulf of Mexico.
Here is Futurecast showing the TIMING of the storms expected to move through East Texa this afternoon and into tonight. Please be prepared for these storms. Thunderstorm winds of 60 mph or more are possible along with some large hail and isolated tornadoes. Stay Weather Alert!!!
