Good characters in Ultimate generally have aerials that combo into grabs and grabs that combo into aerials, which effectively turns mix ups into mostly binary "high or low" style mix ups The general complexity of the game arises from asymmetrical attacks and variations in timing

A quick list of questions to ask when examining stage legality: Can Ness' forward throw kill at 0%? Can you catch Sonic if he runs away in a circle? Can you catch Jigglypuff if she floats away back and forth beneath the stage? Can the stage kill you outside of stage spikes?

Playing to win is an obsolete mind set that was important back when the general culture didn't have an inherent pressure to win. Playing to perform and improve is both much less stressful and more effective for discovering learning opportunities. A proper mind set is vital.

When using multiple characters, it's important to note that it's not just about having a + match up instead of a -, but also how much effort is required in order to make it so Match up charts assume lots of experience/skill on both sides, but characters don't improve linearly

Beating MkLeo typically involves layers of (counter) play 1-5 Beating acola typically involves layers 1-2 (part 5) Both are valid approaches. An important lesson I've learned on consistency in Ultimate is that either breadth or depth of a given game plan are similarly effective
