I had the operation yesterday- eight hours in theatre! Everything seems to have gone very well. The people here at Llandough are simply amazing. I am sitting up next to the bed already! Thank you for your kind messsages, they have been so much appreciated.

Yesterday we had a phone call from someone wanting to donate a laptop to support a pupil who might need one. People need to hear these stories. That’s one laptop to help a child learn but that kindness is also a massive boost to me and the team! Just awesome. Thank you.

We can’t open to care for the children of our key workers if we don’t have staff to do the childcare, the admin/reception team to organise, the cleaners, the caretaker, to keep the site safe, the cooks to feed us all. These people are amazing. Every single one of them. Thank you.

It’s October, another month which has a rather boring name just based on a number. Welsh is much more imaginative! October is ‘Hydref,’ meaning ‘stag call,’ from middle Welsh ‘hydd’ (stag) and ‘bref’ (call or bellow), in a reference to the rutting season.

We’re a small comprehensive with a roll of about 700 children. We are currently operating as a childcare hub; in order to respect correct procedures we have set our limit at 40 children. Anyone who thinks schools could reopen whilst physical distancing is still needed is wrong.

I’ve been a teacher for 35 years. I was a classroom teacher for much of that time, so I know what it is like to teach a full timetable. But I don’t know what it is like to teach during a pandemic. As a head, the need to listen to my colleagues has never been so important.

Three months running the hub taught us that warning signs and safety notices are helpful but they have a very short term impact. What really matters is constant, calm reminders and, above all, adults setting the right example. #PhysicalDistancingAtSchool

Really struggling to understand the thinking here. We (correctly) suspended exams for two consecutive years, and yet now for this next cohort of Y11- who’ve been hit so much harder than anyone- the time is considered right to bring them back.

Well I have survived my first ever night in hospital (in nearly 60 years)! Lucky to be in a brand new hospital, everyone is so friendly and kind. I even have a lovely view! Going to be here a while being monitored and having tests.

Exactly 100 days ago I went to our GP as I was short of breath, a Covid thing, I’d assumed. His diagnosis of a severe congenital heart problem set me on a journey which finds me now recovering post op at home, forever grateful to our amazing NHS & the people who’ve cared for me.
