When do we see Broca's aphasia in neurosurgery? Are these lesions in Broca's area? Excited to be accepting the Elekta Tumor Section award at #AANS2022 for describing neurosurgical lesions most highly associated with Broca's aphasia @ChangLabUcsf @NeurosurgUCSF

While mechanisms connecting the amygdala, epilepsy and psychoses are still not clear, this report suggests that low grade tumors of the limbic system may represent, at minimum, partially reversible etiology of psychotic symptoms. @DorisWangLab .

Do plurihormonal PIT-1 positive PitNETs have a worse prognosis? Maybe not according to recent work out of the @ManishKAghi lab

3/ Best evidence now dissociates this severe aphasia from classic Broca’s area—pars opercularis and triangularis of the inferior frontal gyrus. In addition to surgical implications, these data suggest we need to re-examine our models of anatomy underlying fluent speech.

High grade gliomas are a scary disease. At UCSF and Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland, treatments targeting specific mutations are giving kids with this disease a fighting chance. Proud to be a part of this team.

2/ Neuroscience students worldwide learn that lesions to Broca’s area cause a severe non-fluent aphasia, known as Broca’s aphasia. Some patients are told that tumors, or other brain pathology involving this area, are inoperable due to unavoidable risks to their speech.
