Fined $100 by NHL for leaving the bench during an altercation. Nowadays that's a big suspension. Back then, Mr. Snider paid my fine himself and told me he'd never deduct a cent for standing up for my teammates.

It was a joke that the Flyers had to play that damn Lake Tahoe game last season. It's a joke that they have to play down 9 players (six for covid, three on IR) tonight against Penguins. Injuries, you deal with. But THAT many out total? No. Not when games have been ppd for less.

I still root for the Flyers. I can't turn that off in retirement after 54 years in the org. I still enjoy watching, playing, coaching the game. Still watch other NHL games. Love NHL Network. That'll never leave me. But I am glad I played when I did. Was better suited to me.

Re Keith Yandle, nothing lasts forever. Time waits for nobody. You keep playing because you love it but a time comes when you can't do what you used to. I lived it personally. Every player does. Keith had a great run. Final streak number is less important than the building of it

Happy birthday Bob Clarke. I first saw him when he was a stick boy with Flin Flon Bombers during my junior days in Estevan. Had no idea he'd become one of the best players and best leaders I ever played with. Led more by example than by words but when he talked, we all listened.

One of the best captains in NHL history. Clarkie put the team first at all time and never gave an ounce less than 100 percent. He pushed everyone else to do the same thing. Clarkie held everyone accountable, as did our other team leaders.

Bobby Orr was my first D partner and I played 8 years with Clarkie. They held their play to very high standard of accountability. Hell, they'd say they were lousy when they were banged up and still the best player on the ice. When I hear players make excuses, I shake my head.

When I was a rookie, I got slashed. Swung around and connected... realized a moment later it was GORDIE HOWE. Orr says to me, "Joe, you're gonna pay for that one." I knew. Next period, Gordie high sticks me to the face. Broke my nose. He said, "Welcome to the NHL, kid."

A lot of scouts leave after the second period of games. When I was pro scouting for the Flyers, I believed in being there for the whole game: 1) You can learn a lot by how players/teams handle 3rd pd, 2) Focus on an entire game performance, not just a few good/bad shifts.
