Once had a job interview for a game design position where they gave me a sheet of paper and asked me to come up with 3 game ideas in 30 minutes and then pitch them. In the end I didn't get the job. They said 'these ideas don't seem very well thought through' no duh
Square Enix selling their western studios for 300 million so they can 'invest in blockchain' is very funny to me. Like selling your house for magic beans.
The real clincher was the CEO said 'yeah were trying to hire someone to do all the work I can't be bothered to do' then as soon as he left the room (halfway through the interview because he was busy !!) Someone asked me 'how well do you deal with difficult personalities?' !!!
Some responses to this saying 'maybe they were trying to steal your ideas' and I don't think so. This was a mobile game company that made cooking / farming sims. idk how useful 'what if a dog had a grappling hook' would be to them.
@davemakes
I laughed when he named all the indiest indies he had played and it was like... Hollow Knight, Celeste, Cuphead... Some of the most popular video games of the past 10 years
Toys 4 Bob's office is reportedly closing, with layoffs indicating a possible studio closure.
The Activision studio developed the incredibly successful Skylanders series, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, Crash Bandiccot N. Sane Trilogy, and Crash 4:

Most game design YouTube stuff makes the mistake of picking games everyone already agrees are good. 'How does Ocarina of Time create an air of mystery??' boring! Give me a deep dive into the game design of Madagascar Escape 2 Africa for the Xbox 360 instead.
TotK is giving me this specific feeling I've really wanted out of a game of going back to a world you've already explored and seeing everything that's changed over time. The only other example I can think of is going back to Kanto in gold / silver?
Geoff Keighley has shared his thoughts on the debate surrounding Dave the Diver’s nomination for Best Indie Game at The Game Awards.
“Independent can mean different things to different people, and it’s sort of a broad term."
It's weird how a few years ago people were like 'does minecraft perhaps have colonialist themes???' and now there are tons of games called stuff like 'Colony Frontier Farming: Forced Extraction of Resources'
instead of game trailers with title cards saying 'epic open world' 'hundreds of hours of gameplay' 'infinite content' i would like to see title cards like 'its super short' 'a reasonable amount of content' 'we made just enough game and no more'
LRT: I was talking to a game journo a little while ago and introduced myself as a game developer, so they asked me 'oh, do you do talks and stuff?' I said no not really, and the responded 'ah okay so you're not an *important* game developer.'
🎉🎂 HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRAPPLE DOG!! 🎂🎉
Today marks 1 whole year since Grapple Dog was released!! To celebrate the anniversary I commissioned the amazingly talented artist Crisppyboat to create this wonderful piece!!
Thank you to everyone who has played the game this past year!!
Okay muting this thread now 👍 before I go though: please purchase my game Grapple Dog on steam !! Or give it a wishlist so you can be notified when it's on sale. Okay bye
Theres a protagonist who goes on a journey. You play as them for a few hours and meet some neat NPCs. You work your way to the end and fight a big monster or something. Then the credits roll. Game done.
Oh hey maybe don't hop from buying the wizard game that supports the transphobe to the witch game from the studio that exploited young devs and got them to work for free klthnx.
That’s right!! Super Rare Games are publishing Grapple Dog as part of their brand new Super Rare Originals label - alongside a fantastic lineup of other titles!! Wow!! Incredible!! Amazing!!
If people want to see a 'more traditional' Zelda game then they should give me lots of money. I would love to make one. I'll put all the old stuff in: compasses, boss keys, that bit where you have to knock back the projectiles, you name it.
I just think with AAA games being either GAAS garbage or EPIC OPEN WORLD RPGS it definitely feels quite quaint to play a game that is very tight and contained in that way.
I think it's actually quite obvious these are modern games. You can spot all sorts of features that only became industry standard much later e.g. modern looking upgrade trees, context sensitive button prompts, those little spinny symbol for holding a button down etc.
Also that price seems low right??? I mean I know they're not Activision or whatever but these acquisition deals have all been billion dollar deals so far.
