How the Dutch stop speeding without enforcement: ✅ single travel lanes only unless turning lanes are needed (ie. no passing slower drivers) ✅ gentle chicanes before intersections ✅ lots of trees to give you a sense of speed ✅ line of bricks in the gutter (visual narrowing)

First day of Amsterdam experiment with a more comprehensive circulation plan. The last stroad cutting the city center in half, Weesperstraat, just got a modal filter for the summer. Insane how peaceful this traffic sewer became overnight.

There's suburbia in the Netherlands, too. It just looks a bit different. Some houses are built wall to wall, there are car-free communal zones with paths for bikes and pedestrians, stormwater collection, businesses and services nearby (2-5 min by 🚲)...
