Cool moment today: was watching the first episode of the new season of Backstage Dodgers on
@SportsNetLA
, and when they covered the Freddie Freeman signing, I heard my own voice!
Here's the clip with audio from DodgerHeads:
I'm shocked at how many people think it's impossible to believe that Ippei had access to Ohtani's money (knowingly or unknowingly).
Talking to people who work in finance: a lot of wealthy folks have a business manager or someone who deals with their money so they don't have to!
Folks, this isn't on Roberts. Just accept it. They're down six runs and *mayyyybe* one of those runs is connected to a decision he made.
The Dodgers can't hit, and unless he inserts himself into the lineup, that will continue to be on THEM and not HIM.
Dodgers haters weep this morning.
The Andrew Fraudman crowd buries themselves back in their caves.
6 game lead. Kershaw back tonight. What a time to be alive…
Joe Kelly: 8 games for not hitting anyone, making mean faces + walking away from a fight.
Astros pitcher who hits Laureano for second time: ??
Astros COACH who instigated and asked for a fight: ???
Another important element of this story:
Shohei Ohtani said (via interpreter Will Ireton) that he met with the fan who caught the ball.
“I was able to talk to the fan, and was able to get it back."
Ohtani never met the fan.
Dodgers fans are the best. Had someone hand me a napkin when my daughter spilled ice cream on him. Had someone offer to take a photo for my fam - portrait and landscape! This place rules.
BREAKING:
#Dodgers
sign projected No. 1 pick Hyun-Suk Jang from South Korea.
This story was broken by KBO insider
@DanielKimW
, who joined DodgerHeads to break it all down: who Jang is as a prospect, his MLB timeline + how the Dodgers pulled this off!
The Dodgers just upgraded Phil Bickford into Joe Kelly and (bullpen game) into Lance Lynn.
Those aren’t “w’ere favorites now!” moves but the team is unquestionably improved on the fringes.
I hate being “blame the refs” guy, honestly - but watching last night’s Lakers game makes it hard to be mad at those who are.
Like…this from
@jovanbuha
hurts to read:
🗣️ **Ohtani never changed his story**
The initial story came from a representative, which came via Ippei and was alleged to originated with Ohtani.
As more info about Ippei comes out - along with Ohtani’s timeline - this all becomes more understandable as to how we got HERE.
Shohei Ohtani is 1-0 as a pitch man for the Dodgers. The most important question left this off-season is whether or not he can go 2-0 after meeting with Yoshinobu Yamamoto
@VicTafur
Vic as someone who has been around this org I think you need to remind the folks just how bad things have been at QB prior to Carr. Grass ain’t always greener.
Scherzer is wasted and shirtless on TBS. Buehler is tweeting about popping twist-offs with his teeth. Chris Taylor told
@notthefakeSVP
he got a little loosened up in the clubhouse.
What a night.
We discussed it, but I’m fascinated by the question of who “won” the coaching matchup last night.
I’ve been a Ham skeptic, but his decision to ride with a non-AD lineup more than halfway into the fourth quarter was a brilliant one - and arguably the difference maker.
On the latest
@LakersNation
pod,
@JeffSpiegel
and I broke down the Lakers win over the Raptors, the unconventional way in which they got it done, the standings, DLo's return and more:
📽️
🎙️
What a wild story about Brusdar and his mom! First time ever seeing him pitch tonight as a pro, and they hadn't seen each other for seven years.
Cool stuff.
Yankees decided not to match Dodgers winning $325M bid to Yamamoto because: 1) they thought $300M was right offer, 2) they didn’t believe anyone should have a bigger deal than Gerrit Cole. NYY offered optout after 5 yrs but not a $50M signing bonus. Highly unlikely it mattered.
Heyman reported they didn't really want Margot either, so lots of moving pieces. I'm not opposed to Glasnow if the price is lower than Pepiot — and I'm not opposed to including Pepiot if the final deal grows to include Arozarena.
Shohei Ohtani reminded everyone yesterday what a freak-show he is - putting on a LASER-fest in his first outdoor BP since September.
How can you not be fired up watching this Dodgers fans?!?
Do you all remember a few hours ago when that guy who might go down as the greatest player ever signed a 10-year, no opt-outs, contract with the Dodgers?
That was fun
Tell me if you’ve heard this before, but these contract terms are what we would call “FAVORABLE”.
Can’t opt out for six years, and if he does he’ll be opting out of higher salary years?
Friedman is COOKING.
Opt-outs in Yamamoto’s 12-year, $325M contract with Dodgers are after years six and eight, sources tell
@TheAthletic
. Deal is somewhat backloaded. Yamamoto would walk away from higher salaries if he opts out.
BREAKING: The Los Angeles Dodgers and Tampa Bay Rays are in agreement on a trade to send RHP Tyler Glasnow and OF Manuel Margot to the Dodgers for RHP Ryan Pepiot and OF Jonny Deluca -- contingent on Glasnow signing an extension with L.A., which is expected, sources tell ESPN.
Can confirm that $68 million of the $70 million Shohei Ohtani is due annually will be deferred, as
@FabianArdaya
said
Per source, it was Ohtani's idea. Described to me as an "easy decision" to help the Dodgers remain competitive
Because of this, his CBT hit is about $46M per yr
Alright
#Dodgers
fans, Christmas is over - but what present are you hoping Andrew Friedman and Co. still have on the way?
Comment below and we’ll share some comments on our next video 👇👇👇
I get Dodgers fans frustration with lack of moves. But Musgrove, for example, would be the Dodgers....7th best SP? Just because we recognize the name doesn't mean we need to freak out. Dodgers are deep at SP. Musgrove is fine. But I'd take May, Urias and Gonsolin easily.
Wow, Mayock wasn't blowing smoke! Clock is over a tenth-of-a-second before he even moves (somewhere between .11 and .14 it looks like). If he was a 4.4ish guy it feels like that answers the biggest questions anyone had about him.
Had this video sent to me today. When the Raiders said that they clocked Damon Arnette in the low 4.4’s with their own watches, that wasn’t just to save face.
Arnette seemed to get an unfortunately quick trigger on the clock at the combine. Just something to take note of.
63.2 IP
2.40 ERA
1.01 WHIP
69 K
The numbers are good enough to justify the conversation, and the conversation is compelling enough to justify the decision.
Clayton Kershaw should start the All-Star game.

(1) ‘Superbad’ destroyed the competition in the first round and looks to knock out another teen movie classic when it meets (8) ‘Adventureland.’
#TeenMovieBracket
Tough stretch for the “yeah, but” crowd.
10 in a row, 16 game lead in division, five game lead in NL, 112-win pace.
All on the backs of Muncy, CT3 and Gallo.
Also, let’s not forget fans were calling for Gasol’s head two months ago and now they think he’s the key to the Lakers’ success. The truth has always been somewhere in the middle.
Yooo
@LakersNation
who’s excited for the game tonight!?!? I’ll be live with you all after the game on the postgame show, and I can’t wait!
I’m thinking a 116-107 W tonight.
"We never stop. We will keep working."
@kirsten_watson
caught up with Stan Kasten to discuss the Dodgers offseason moves and the signing of Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
Dodger intro videos ranked:
1) Ichiro, obviously
2) Griffey doing the pouty face
3) John Smoltz having to congratulate the Dodgers hahahaha
4) Bronson Arroyo going
#fullsend
5) David Ortiz calling out Mookie
6) Gary Sheffield (duh)

Also, while some folks are meticulous balancers of their accounts — lots of folks couldn't even tell you how much they have in there!
$500k missing from Ohtani's account is like 1/140th of his annual income (salary+endorsements). That's a couple hundred bucks to most of us!
Hey
#Dodgers
fans: I'm going to record a show with
@FutureDodgers
tonight to discuss all of the prospects acquired by the Dodgers this winter — if you've got any questions about the system/a specific prospect, drop some below and we'll try to get to a couple!
Throw in the fact that Ohtani needed a translator? None of this is a huge leap IMO.
Also if we're just talking logins, do we think it's insane to believe Ippei had those (whether he had authority to do anything with them or not)? It's all more plausible than haters want It to be
Miguel Vargas on the back fields with bat in hand (and trainer by his side). Dave mentioned he may take some swings today, so this is great news for Vargas and the Dodgers.
Me and
@Sean_Davi
running the
@LakersNation
watch along tonight, so join us at 5!
All the Thomas Bryant truthers from last night will be excited to see tonight’s starting lineup…
For those scoring at home, Dave Roberts currently has 10 RP on the roster and every reliever who has appeared tonight pitched less than 24 hours ago.
Oh, and he let Austin Barnes hit in the biggest moment of the game while the best catcher in baseball hung out on the bench.
On April 19th a year ago, the Dodgers were 9-10 and not winning the division.
They went 91-52 from that point forward and won the division by 16 games.
Deeeeeeeeeep breaths.
8 straight W's for the Dodgers and 12 of their last 13.
Julio feelin' it, Gonsolin's best start in months, Kershaw is back, offense is rolling, divisional lead up to 8.5 games.
Ho hum baby.
As long as he’s telling the truth, this was the best case scenario outcome for Dodgers fans today.
(And FWIW: Ohtani hasn’t given us any reason to doubt or question him.)
My rule is simple: no complaining about the Dodgers until August 1 at 4pm. If Lynn is the best SP they add, I’ll be as frustrated as everyone else - but until that’s confirmed, save your energy lol.
