Accountability partners are an unhelpful mechanism that works against the call of discipleship in Scripture.
They function more like police than a partner.
Better to be in ongoing discipleship groups than have someone call you once a month.

They can be helpful if they are a ongoing regular part of one's week. It sounds like the unhelpful mechanism is a partner that isn't a regular part of one's life.

And accountability is easily circumvented by lying or evading. Much better to have people who you can be open with and be truly known.

How about both. I’ve had the same accountability partner for ten years, and I have have become more like Christ because of his encouragement and rebuke.
