One of the unsettling things about "Bob's Burgers" is architecturally the show is clearly set in San Francisco but the characters are all equally clearly from New Jersey

While set in new jersey canonically the entire area was owned (and presumably built) by one man.
So it's possible he was inspired by San Francisco.

The show is set in 'Seymour's Bay' (but a fictional one, not the one in Michigan), and apparently a lot of people compare it to Ocean City, NJ so you're spot on.
