Never realised until now that Van der Merwe shifts the ball from his right to left arm after going round Van Poortvliet so he can get a good fend on Dombrandt. Probably gets hauled down short without that little skill.

To make four Lions tours in the professional era is insane. To be good enough and durable enough to captain your fourth, nearing your 36th birthday, as a second-row, is borderline superhuman. Alun Wyn Jones - colossus.

Plenty folk are saying Hamish Watson is too small to mix it with South Africa's juggernauts. Last time he played the Boks, in Nov '18, he made more metres and beat more defenders than any forward on the pitch, and didn't miss a tackle. The guts of that SA team won the RWC.

Tend to think Stuart Hogg's most compelling act on the field wasn't a break or a try or a booming 50m goal - it was asking two debutants to lift the Calcutta Cup in 2021. First Scottish captain to win at Twickenham in 38 years but he gave this special honour to them, not himself

Astonishing, again, from Duhan van der Merwe, whose capacity for the incredible has been a huge factor in Scotland's dominance of this fixture. As recently as a decade ago, four Calcutta Cups in a row was a laughable suggestion. No longer. Scotland have obliterated the narrative.

A little over a year ago, Sam Hidalgo-Clyne couldn't make a Scarlets 23. Now, he's a European champion. Such a combative, resilient specimen, his late turnover penalty was monumental.

Often lost amid the waffles, bureaucracy and title talk, is the fact that Scotland can land a best-ever finish of second tomorrow night. Stuart Hogg spoke well about how the team feel about the events of the past wee while.

Emiliano Boffelli has played every minute of the 11 Argentina Test matches since Michael Cheika took over. On Saturday - fittingly, in Edinburgh - he wins his 50th cap. A superb player in wonderful form.

Some enormous defensive numbers on the Scottish side. Every starting forward into double figures for tackles. A total of 136 made by the pack and only five missed. Matt Fagerson with 27, Luke Crosbie 20, Pierre Schoeman 19.

Jonny Gray has now played over 750 minutes of Test rugby without missing a tackle. At least 136 in a row #rugbyunited

A year ago, Kyle Rowe was without a contract, working nightshift in a Bathgate warehouse. Now, he's in the Scotland squad. A brilliant tale of resilience and perseverance. Hear the London Irish winger's side of things tomorrow @RugbyPass

When did Scotland last have two stand-offs as lethal as Russell and Hastings? Or a group of centres as good as Jones, Dunbar, Scott, Bennett, Taylor, Horne, Johnson et al? Or hookers as brilliant in the loose and over ball as Brown and McInally, with Ford & Turner in the van too?

Wasn't sure Ali Price would make this Lions tour, but how he's seized his opportunity and how richly he deserves his starting berth.

Such a privilege calling an engrossing scrap between Italy and Scotland @primevideosport alongside excellent @rorylawson9 & @johnbarc86 . Hugely encouraging Italian display; Scotland 4 tries and a 5th win on bounce. Hope you had as much fun watching as much as we did commentating.

What a breathtaking game at The Stoop. Scotland clever in attack, dogged at the breakdown. Clearly very well coached and very resilient to come back from 21pts down. Loads of impressive performers, especially 9-10-12 combo. Most young enough to play next year. Hugely encouraging

Pierre Schoeman got through a mighty volume of work on Sunday, again. In 53 minutes on the pitch, he made 15 carries for 65m. That takes his championship tally to 47 carries - only Ellis Genge is anywhere near that figure among front-rows.

DTH van der Merwe leaves Glasgow a true great of Scottish pro rugby. A mountain of tries, many in the biggest games, and some blockbuster moments. Beyond that, he and his wife have had a huge cultural influence off the field too. Few have given as much to the Glasgow cause.

This is class from Luke Crosbie's Insta. The Livingston lad outworked his private school rivals to make it, and had to bide his time for a cap. At Edinburgh, they call him Terminator. Brilliant to see the debutants recognised pitchside, in front of friends and family, on Sat.
