For over 500 years our lives have not mattered, the same today and it’s tiring to see this then they say get over it. These terms are not ours, chief, redskin, squaw, Sioux, saulteaux, I missing a few including the main one Indian is definitely not our term
@nmcgivney
White folks and institutions, refrain. It is an objectification, commodification, and dehumanization of actual living human beings and cultures. Contributes to our erasure.

It’s the inability to discern that they are ONE Tribe, and don’t speak for all. Whiteness grants individual voice to white people only; others are “grouped”, and one action represents all.
@ValerieNeuharth
A ‘universal’ decision could be helpful, but is also problematic in that it places the burden on the Tribes, and again forces a “singular” voice from several individual sovereign Tribal Nations. Seminoles absolutely should have the autonomy to do what they want w/their name.

Like, just from an optics standpoint even if you don't see anything wrong with the team name, don't give people an easy in to say "this ain't it Kansas City Chiefs" that's just Posting 101
@Indigenia
@Tonya_Song
...the Kansas City Chefs?
There is no "i" in team; and they don't need the "i" in their team name.
Plus football announcers would be gifted the endless use of food puns ny such a name change.
Win-win.
@Indigenia
Now that I think about it it’s super interesting that the chiefs didn’t get looped in to the whole redskins debacle. To be fair, the “r word” is way more heinous, but still. Also think it’s funny that the “Washington football team” is still playing w/o a name. Like punishing fans
