What is it with bus stops designing the least comfortable seating experience possible?

As many have rightly pointed out, this is about preventing homeless people from sleeping here. What a country 🫀 Please donate to @Shelter so they can continue their work to help the homeless

@GuyLambertUK Presumably to make the seats on the bus feel like a relief in comparison...

@GuyLambertUK I assume to dissuade the homeless from sheltering there.

@GuyLambertUK It’s purposely designed to be anti homeless. There’s so many examples all around cities. In Glasgow the β€œseats” on subway platforms are at an angle and if you sit on them you just slide off within seconds.

@GuyLambertUK It's called hostile architecture and is designed to be twattish to rough sleepers Just look at the stylish metal spikes around offices or arms on modern benches

@bruce_warman Yeah it didn’t occur to me at first as Wigan doesn’t have a lot of that but as soon as someone said it, I clocked it right away. How repulsive our society is

@GuyLambertUK To stop people from staying there for long times ... like teenagers hang out at the bus stop or homeless people

@GuyLambertUK They want to prevent the homeless sleeping there. Same with those narrow rails that are barely bum width apart and curved seats on park benches.

@GuyLambertUK I've tried, but it is impossible to get within any approximation of 'comfy' on them. I think I achieved 'Perilously Perched' once, and considered that a win.

@GuyLambertUK So homeless can’t sleep, teens won’t loiter and rain/jet wash water will run off and dry faster.

@GuyLambertUK A ploy to hide the slow erosion of Public Transport . As you sit down , you lose the will to live and walk to your destination
