I always find it amusing that most
#DoctorWho
fans don’t watch live, scheduled TV and say “it’s not promoted enough”. I’ve been staying with mum for Easter, watching live TV, and the Sea Devils trailer was on a LOT. The idea that the BBC hide expensive prime time shows is absurd
We’ve had many TV Guides with Jodie on the cover and from I saw most have the show as pick of the day. This is from my mum’s magazine. TBH I’m not sure what some
#DoctorWho
fans think promotion is? Jodie doing a door-to-door with a Sea Devil? 😂
@GRALCreates
Exactly. I think that the billboards that promoted Rose, and the blanket coverage of Day of the Doctor raised expectations for ‘standard’ episodes and specials. The BBC aren’t allowed to promote in the same way (although I think they could TRY to be more innovative in promotion).
@leighwood79
Yeah there’s only so much they can do, and obviously it’s not as easy for them as it is for Netflix to get stars on ITV shows like This Morning
@GRALCreates
I think when we talk about promotion, it's not just the trailer. For example in terms of appearances on other TV shows it was just Mandip on Morning Live. No-one went on Breakfast, One Show, Blue Peter, radio etc.
@TheCyberdevil
But then do they usually? I don’t think anyone did for NYD. Obviously there are levels are publicity they’d do, but this idea that “they didn’t do enough” always baffles me when there’s a trailer on what felt like every hour at least
@GRALCreates
Tbh for me I forgot it was on. I knew it was coming though. I turned my TV on and saw a glimpse of it and went "oh shit Doctor who is on." Put the iPlayer on and watched it from the start.
I saw a lot of trailers on Twitter and Facebook.
@GRALCreates
As someone who barely watches live TV myself, I was wondering whether this criticism actually held up. People who don't watch live TV complaining that not enough people watch live TV.
@GRALCreates
No good advertising on the BBC if those people don't watch the BBC. Other shows seem to be massively out there. I don't have Netflix but see so much about Bridgerton etc for example
@GRALCreates
If only we lived in a world capable of counting online views…with exec’s willing to do so. I’d love for the show to get great numbers (again). That takes aiming at a united audience. Production decided to divide the audience years ago. Now, this.
@GRALCreates
It was hardly promoted at all on the ABC in Australia, until last week and is not on the main channel anymore, it's on one of the sub channels. So disappointing.
@GRALCreates
It’s just one of the many excuses given to try and justify a low overnight figure, the reality is it’s no longer one of the BBC’s flagships, three years of bad writing and a leader actress who just hasn’t the range to bring anything to the part are all to blame.
