When
@islaycountrygal
went to feed the chooks and came back in to say get the guests out to the garden I think the northern lights are starting this was the result
What an amazing sight and lovely evening drinking drams and watching the sky dance
@VisitScotland
Graeme and I are delighted to be expanding our business here at Glenegedale House Islay and are diversifying into Haggis rearing where guests can “be a haggis farmer for the day”
There will be interactive experiences to suit all ages and abilities of haggis farming
#AprilFools
Just a wee reality check for folks. We are a small four bedroom bed and breakfast and this is the commission alone for one month at a quieter time to booking dot com This is before all other overheads that come with running a business Please please now more than ever

It’s a tough life living on this island
Not sure you’d all cope …. The beaches are so busy 😇😂🥰
This is the Big Strand where a lot of our guests have a wander to before breakfast or after dinner
One of the seafood platters leaving the kitchen this evening. The others are slightly more customised to the guests wishes. These lobster, crab and Langoustines were landed tonight at 5pm and on the table at 7pm it simply cannot be more local or fresh

This is your evening fix from Graeme and I down the beach and on the same spot that exactly twenty years ago Graeme asked me to marry him. 🥰 Never did we think twenty years later we would own the house just up from the beach
@VisitScotland
Our guests this evening opted to have their locally sourced seafood platter outside enjoying the view, sunset and off course with the current regulations a bottle of wine outside
How’s this for a post lockdown meal?

Last night did not disappoint any of us here on Islay. Between 11pm last night and just after midnight we were treated to the most beautiful show of Aurora We were lucky enough to watch from right here at
@GlenegedaleH
📸 Billy Stitchell took these photos & allowed us to share
Going to really embarrass our son Cameron however each week during lock down he’s been baking and doing an honesty box but he’s also been quietly giving away cakes to elderly, isolated and generally deserving folks in our community who’ve been working hard to keep us all safe.
Another gorgeous display of aurora again here on Islay last night photos taken by the talented Billy Stitchell in the wee hours between 11pm and 1am
Our guests were all stargazing in the garden and desperate to see them so we are glad they didn’t disappoint
@VisitScotland
Just a wee bit of seafood for our guests this evening just before their hot Islay scallops were added to the platters
Our wonderful group of 12 repeat guests are loving their time here on Islay and catching up with each other from all corners of the world.

Our daughter
@islaycountrygal
has a sixth sense about the chances of aurora and she has just taken these right now from being out the back of the house checking her ponies
We think we are in for a beautiful night of a dancing sky

Straight out the oven and out to the guests while the blueberries are still bubbling away
Here’s to another fabulous day on Islay
Woohoooooo we are over the moon to have just won the Scotlands Best Bed and Breakfast/Guesthouse award at The Scottish Hotel Awards in Glasgow
Thank you to the fabulous Joshua from Portavdie for collecting our award when we got stuck on Islay tonight
#TeamArgyll
Do you ever wonder who’s behind a social media account -it’s Graeme & myself (Emma)
I grew up
@Bunnahabhain
& Graemes grandparents family are originally from “the other side of Islay” 😳 at Portnahaven and Port Weymes.
23 years ago today we were a little busy getting married
This girl has just smashed her results!!!!!
We could not be more proud and she deserves every single A for all her hard work and even sitting her first higher as well as her nat 5’s in 4th year and getting an A
Well on track for your veterinary medicine dream
@islaycountrygal
A beautiful walk this afternoon to Kilnaughton Lighthouse where my great great grandfather was the lighthouse keeper and onto the Singing Sands here on Islay
We are lucky to belong to and live in such a magical place
Graeme and I are delighted to have found out this evening that we have won the
@ScotHotelAwards
National Winner for their Breakfast Award at their virtual awards Night 🥃 Sláinte everyone
What a magical afternoon
Thanks to our wonderful guests letting us know what time they were checking in today we managed to have a few hours away enjoying the sunshine
We went to Killinallan point and it was just amazing here’s a wee snapshot of how the afternoon went 🦭 🦭🦭🦭
Our seafood platters really need no words
Islay scallops, Frazer and Ishbels amazing lobster crab prawn and langoustines prepared by Graeme trout pate kiln roasted salmon and homemade bread and Oatties ….
My internal debate right now… the Aurora is out now and will be for an hour we can see them from the front garden but do I
A. Stay cosy by the fire
B. Pack a flask of hot chocolate and head where I’ll see then slightly better
C. Just enjoy what we can in the garden
Dinner service finished and all set for breaky, our guests are enjoying their drams 🥃 and chat in the lounges
Headed outside for a quick wander (and to get the steps up to 20,000 before the end of the day but shhh) and this is what greets me
All the colours right enough!
Islay scallops sizzling away for some of our guests starters this evening with beautiful rock samphire
The guests now enjoying these have traveled from Tokyo and amazed and excited by our local produce 🦞
Let us introduce you to the newest member of our family here
@GlenegedaleH
Bracken turned 8 weeks yesterday so came home to live with us all today.
He’s been an absolute star so far and not phased by a thing. 🐶
Tonight it’s a mix of seafood platters, 3 course meals & dietary requirement meals
We have not shared our freshly landed seafood platters that go out for guests almost every evening with you for a while
Sea to plate in just hours and all from within 12 miles of
@GlenegedaleH
This evenings locally landed fresh seafood platter with some fresh homemade mackerel pate and pickled cucumber carpaccio, lobster, langoustines, crab, salmon, trout and scallops 😋
Where would you start and yes I forgot to photograph the bread and Oatties again 🤷♀️
Such a gentleman and wonderfully talented man you will be sorely missed Dave
@HairyBikers
brought so much joy to us all, may your final ride be a fabulous one
Had to share a wee peek at tonight’s seafood platter for two seconds before it was given to some of our lovely guests They’re doing it in style with pre dinner
@thebotanistgin
and tonics and then moving on to
@corneyandbarrow
Champagne 🍾 🥂
Would you manage it?
@VisitScotland
I’ve had to interrupt the dinner prep to capture this from the garden and share with you all! Sometimes our view just blows us away and tonight’s sky is fabulous what a glorious day it’s been 🥰
#YCW2020
Well they didn’t disappoint ..we opted for a hip flask dram while watching and then a toast of the toes by the fire afterwards. Billy took these fabulous photos of the aurora here on Islay this evening while we just watched on.
Tag your friend you’d love to watch this with!
One of the beauties of being on the silly o’clock ferry to Islay is getting to see this beautiful fishermen a creel Christmas tree in Tarbert when there’s not another soul there

On this evenings three course set menu is
Hand dived Islay Scallops
Dunlossit Estate venison fillet
Lemon posset with pistachio crumb
80% of the ingredients are grown produced and raised within 6 miles
I nipped off the island to the mainland with our daughter today for her orthodontic appointment and the sail leaving Islay this morning was amazing however this evening sailing back to Islay in this just blows your mind that there’s anything wrong in the world.
@CalMacFerries
I always post happy posts but this evening I’m asking you to raise your glass to Maria who lost her life to sepsis and was laid to rest today She was a beautiful part of our family and loved a dram she leaves behind Kenny and their 21 month old little girl
I won’t deny it ....it was a cold walk today but look at the waves pushing forward and being blown back. It was beautiful just as the sun is beginning to set. Now back at Glenegedale House in front of a roaring peat fire enjoying a hot cuppa watching the sunset

Our busy Islay beaches! 😜😇
This is the Big Strand this afternoon and many of our guests enjoy a wander down here before or after breakfast
Great for a 🏃♀️ 🏃♂️ as the sand can be quite compacted
Fancy a walk on here and what time of day would you visit?

I am having a “moment” this morning and feeling grateful. Looking around the dining room during breakfast service and seeing Americans Italians & our UK guests with only one room empty last night in mid November. In April this year we could only dream this would be possible again
It’s been a pleasure to have
@NickNairn
and his beautiful wife
@joolsnairn
stay with us. It’s been wonderful to catch up with others in hospitality and it’s genuinely been really lovely to have you both stay. Until next time...

Errr... if you thought last nights platter was good... tonight’s was stellar...shellfish all from tonight’s landings and everything immaculately cooked. Bravo 🙏

We are absolutely over the moon to have won the third award in a week
The Best of the Best & the Travellers choice award from Trip Advisor means we are in the Top 10% of hotels worldwide we couldn’t do it without all our amazing guests and social media supporters - thank you
We very rarely get snow here on Islay and it’s even more rare for it to lie so we made the most of it this afternoon
We made a wee snowman on the beach this afternoon and we think a wee pair of mittens and him and Bernie could be friends 😜
