I was 18 years old. It was my first day in college. And according to my professor - my life sucked.

This came as a shock. I grew up in a middle-class family. Sure, we lost our house and minivan in the 09' crisis. But it was 2018. I had an iPhone. And I was attending college on a 75% scholarship that was handed to me for graduating HS with.. a slightly above C average.

But Trump had been president for 2 years. And Ron DeSantis was on my ballot. So woke institutions were hell-bent on convincing my generation that we were oppressed.

To accomplish this, my professor divided us. (their go-to tactic). Our first assignment (in "English" class) was to PICK SIDES. "Stand to the left if you believe the "N-word" should be outlawed. Stand to the right if not."

I walked to the right. I watched my classmates walk left. My palms started to sweat. "Am I really going to be outnumbered 29 to 1?" I thought.

But, I turned around and noticed a few friends had joined me. 1 white guy from Alabama. 1 black guy from Miami. 1 Venezuelan guy whose parents escaped the country in their teens. I felt good about our group.

She gave us 15 minutes to form an argument - then it was time to debate. My group voted that I should speak. I accepted the challenge.

Now, put yourself in my shoes. You're a Puerto Rican-American 18-year-old kid. And you're behind enemy lines, heavily outnumbered. Fully aware that the first impression you're about to leave on your peers is the "N-word" should be legal under the first amendment.

The pressure was on. But nothing could prepare me for what was about to happen.

I greet my opponent, and I was shocked. She was white. She wore goth black clothes - her hair died blue. With pride, she declares that the "N-word" should be a punishable crime. Because it "holds people of color down."

I watched the class nod along. I listened to the professor support my opponent. Then it was my turn to speak.

I point out why it's important to protect freedom of speech. Free speech allows us to communicate free thought. Free thought leads to societal progress.

If people at the top determined what words were legal or illegal... MLK and the Civil Rights Movement would have been dead on arrival.

Then the professor attacks. She resorts to an arsenal of logical fallacies. Anything to protect her precious narrative. Finally, she falls on a circular argument. "The brown students in this classroom feel oppressed by the "N-word" because the "N-word" is oppressive."

Before I respond, I look to the right. I look at my black group member from Miami. Every eye in the room follows. He's clearly shaking in his seat because he disagrees with my professor.

Before I could speak, she says "Even YOU, as a brown person should realize how you're oppressed compared to the white kids in this classroom." Then, the class ends.

I meet my group outside. We all pity our peers. They operated under an external locus of control. We operated under an internal locus of control.

1) Internal locus of control: your actions determine your L's and W's. 2) External locus of control: your luck determines your L's and W's.

We made $0 for the first 16 months. But I didn't blame it on my skin color. I took ownership of my ACTIONS.

The result? I now own a multi-figure business, I fulfill my purpose by impacting others. I teach them to control their actions. Not to blame their circumstances. That's how bodies are transformed. That's how success is achieved.

If you take one thing from my story, remember: Blame yourself - not your circumstances. Operate from an internal locus of control.

It's not your skin color. It's your actions. It's not the snacks at the office. It's your willpower. It's not your busy schedule. It's your time management. You are capable of amazing things. Just take action.
