Saw Oppenheimer tonight in a completely full theater. During COVID, my theater stayed open but with limited trailers, they decided to show old episodes of bugs bunny to fill the empty space. This became popular in our town, so even when trailers returned, bugs bunny stayed.
After eliminating Boston in 6, every single Florida Panther took a moment to show their respect for Jeremy Swayman, who was unbelievable this series & the entire postseason. The post-series handshake line tradition in hockey is always really cool, but this one felt extra special.
In all seriousness—Burks was an awesome NYK. It’s not his fault Thibs decided to run him into the ground playing out of position last year.
He worked his ass off for us, gave us everything he had & hit huge shots. It woulda been nice to keep him in a bench role. He’ll he missed.
@sabrinabrier
Easily the best part about this is the excitement dripping in the first “oh.” She’s not skeptical, she knows she’s been proven right. And she feels no remorse for her friend, she only cares that her initial distrust was spot on. Sabrina captures all that with one word and a look.
Of Jalen Brunson's 10 assists, 3 were on 3-pointers, which means that Brunson scored or assisted on 70 of the Knicks 97 points. He also only had 1 turnover. In a defensive slugfest featuring two dynamic defenses, Brunson was directly responsible for 72% of his team's points.
MVP
Josh Hart becoming this untouchable rotation piece has destroyed the Knicks. Now Thibs feels like he has ONE position for RJ Grimes and Quickley to share. That’s absolutely insane. Hart is a nice role player, but there’s a reason we got him for a protected FRP. 20 minute 1h lmao.
Idiotic. They don’t wanna admit they were wrong so they’re setting Brunson up to fail. Ironically, they’re unintentionally showing how high they think of him by holding him to an unprecedentedly high standard. Notice how Haliburton/Dame/Booker/Mitchell aren’t discussed this way?
Draymond Green: “Jalen Brunson, jury’s still out. I got nothing but love and respect…but I’m talking about to go to the promised land—can he be your best player to go to the *promised* land? I don’t know. But damn is he balling. Gotta give him his credit“
You know what’s weird? Nobody once said, “Dejounte Murray isn’t winning the Hawks a championship.” It was just an acquisition judged independently. I wonder why that is? I can’t quite put my finger on it…
Some of you may have known my older brother passed away recently. Tonight we had a gathering in his honor that went better than I ever could have hoped. Here is
@shaundeeb
gifting my mother the WSOP bracelet he won this summer in my brother’s honor. Thank you so much to everyone.
Jayson Tatum: 22 FGA, 12 assists, teammates shoot 50%
Luka Doncic: 21 FGA, 11 Assists, teammates shoot 44%
Jayson Tatum narrative: it’s so brave how he’s putting scoring second to get his teammates involved
Luka Doncic narrative:
A misconception about Jalen Brunson is that because he seeks contact he's RELIANT on drawing fouls to be efficient. This couldn't be further from the truth. Brunson is one of the most skilled scorer in the entire NBA. What other PG is looking to create a jump-hook in the midpost?
Kemba being ruled out for the season only for Thibs to come out and say “it’s Burks time now” 3 hours later is unequivocally the most 2021-2022 Knicks things that could have happened.
The Knicks are the only team in all of sports who can be at a point in the season when 99% of their fanbase is completely numb to the result of the games and still manage to break their hearts.
Shits unreal man.
Look I know this makes me a huge nerd but Draymond anticipating where the ball is gonna go and setting an early screen to free up Divincenzo is so high IQ.
These past 3 months I lost my older brother, my grandfather, and two of our family pets. It’s been probably the toughest stretch of my life. The only thing keeping me going has been the Knicks and this community. Tonight sucked, but this season was a huge win. Thank you all. ♥️
"Why do Knicks fans think I hate them?"
*spews completely disingenuous nonsense with zero logical or data-driven evidence, for the sole intent of hating*
gee it's a real mystery
Draymond Green says the Knicks are a ‘fluke’
"Why do Knicks fans think I hate the Knicks though? I told the truth about the team. And the truth about the team is, it's a fluke…"

Mitchell Robinson is going to have his jersey retired at MSG.
Mitch went from practicing 3’s and calling for post-ups on Snapchat to quietly embracing dominating defensively and on the glass. His evolution (mental and physical) is raising him to previously unimaginable heights.
It’s being misconstrued, but this Brunson deal is very simple; with RJ due for an extension the NYK will be over the cap anyway. Consolidating vets into Brunson allows them to stay relatively competitive, frees up minutes for their young guys & remain flexible for a future trade.
I guess I have to be that guy again. His FG% did not remotely reflect his impact tonight. He was fucking READY for these playoffs. IMO he was hugely disappointing during the regular season but I legit think he could be an All-Star as early as next year.
RJ Barrett assesses his play from today:
"Terrible. I'm very disappointed in how I played today. It's a lot right now. You fight for something and you want something so bad. Today I personally did not play my best"
Nobody asked for this, but I'm psychotic. Quentin Grimes has been pigeonholed and capped as a 3&D guy. That undersells him IMO. In limited minutes and role, he showcased an off-the-bounce game that very few expected. So here's a quick thread on Quentin Grimes, the creator:
Y’all remember when a 30 year old journeyman led the NBA in minutes playing out of position for a WHOLE MONTH on a team that was 1) the 11 seed and 2) had multiple better young options and a segment of that teams fanbase defended that decision for absolutely no reason whatsoever?
Do you know how annoying it must be to be down 39 and have to deal with the backup unit of Deuce McBride Quentin Grimes and Josh Hart? Coached by Tom Thibodeau??

Nobody asked for this, but yesterday was the single worst defensive performance of Julius Randle's Knick career.
@IQfor3
posted a good video breakdown yesterday. Check it out if you missed it. If you want more, here is Julius Randle "earning" 33 minutes, a thread:
BTW, a bunch of Knick fans made this (smart) point, so I want to make sure I include it; this is NOT on Josh Hart. He’s a good player and deserves to see minutes. This is about lineup synergy and a coach refusing to find ways to stagger minutes so all lineups have more shooting.
The thread everyone's been waiting for. We have been begging him to impact games independent of his shooting. Since the ASB, save a bad half against the LAC, he has done just that. Yesterday was his best performance yet. Here's everything RJ-related you may have missed, a thread:
Barkley just made a wonderful point about the value of coaching.
“Shaq, you say you knew it was on you to get yourself going, but a coach isn’t brought in to make you great. Spo isn’t trying to make Jimmy great. He’s trying to make Strus/Martin/Vincent great.”
Makes you think…
We’ll get made fun of by other fans, but this was the best win of the century. The Knicks just clinched a playoff series in a game Randle got injured and Brunson struggled in. Their 22 yo
#3
pick was the best player in the game. Average rotation age=24.
This shit is sustainable.
Anyone longing for the Knicks to trade for Mitchell should be thrilled at today’s news. Since he traded Gobert and Royce O’Neal, the worst thing Ainge can do is start the season with Mitchell on this depleted roster. He knows this. Leon not caving and overpaying is a good thing.
*watches 7 second clip*
“They had that flash in the pan era where Julius Randle was 6th man of the year”
*Entire panel nods*
“Where do you see a lie!?”- RJ
Honest question, do you follow the sport you’re paid to cover anymore? Or have you been too busy studying to be a ref?
@KnicksCentral
Where did you see a lie? I can’t roll with you if you’re upset about truth being said. Knicks are 1 of 30 teams that are talked about. You get more attention than you should because the city and fan base but the media hasn’t won or lost a game for y’all EVER.
🧵I guess it has to be done. The Julius Randle synergy thread:
1) It’s unlikely that they’re better replacing Julius Randle with, effectively, nothing (they’re just increasing the minutes/usage of the other rotation pieces). That’s clear even just looking at basic impact data.
The NYK young core is so good & nobody knows it.
Take Grimes, who already has showcased an elite ceiling as a shooter (high, consistent release point with good %) and a versatile wing defender, with bits of secondary creation, at just 21. Yet he’s just being tossed in to trades.
The Knicks basically started a Moneyball movement in the NBA and spend more money than any sports franchise on analytics and guys who have a perpetual hard-on for Sam Presti still use the Knicks as a meme because they traded for Eddy Curry in 2005.
JJ Redick on his podcast suggests more teams may be prioritizing offensive rebounds this year based on what's he's heard and the rationale of getting extra chances.
This was expected given the Knicks' success last year but cool to see NYK being a trendsetter in the league 😎
Kelly Oubre on Joel Embiid flagrant:
“I don’t think it’s dirty, Jo has to protect himself…
“They gonna hit, & then we hit back, and they cried…
“Let’s just hoop…Nobody finna fight, this ain’t WWE…
“We’ll see tomorrow how they react”
The only time Jalen Brunson shot FT’s off a Payton foul was after the world’s most blatant flagrant foul. He was only called for 2 fouls all game. Free throws are way down for everyone across the league lately, including Brunson.
Respectfully, what the fuck is he talking about?
What’s amusing about this is the league sat idly by as guys like James Harden/Trae Young/Demar Derozan made the sport almost unwatchable with their flopping/foul-baiting but Jalen Brunson protecting his ankles is where they draw the line & penalties have to start being assessed.
Jalen Brunson T’d up for complaining about no call when he lands on Brandon Ingram‘s foot after shooting
Similar plays have caused Brunson to be called for flopping twice already this season
If Immanuel Quickley was on any team but the Knicks he would have been a leaguewide darling (fans and front offices alike) for over a year now.
He was better on defense than offense in a game he had 38 8 & 7. Think about that.
I trust the Knicks’ FO, they’ve done nothing to make us doubt them, but if Nerlens Noel is the teams starter on opening night next season it’s going to be a long ass year
I just wanna say, if the Knicks traded away Lauri/WCJ/Franz, had few future draft picks, and their 3 best players were 2 guys in their 30s who don’t play defense and a sub-All Star making 215 million dollars, they’d be getting clowned on relentlessly. We saw it the last 20 years.
I wish NYK fans understood how truly special what they’ve done these past few months is. 15-12 since that fateful Miami game with wins over Philly, Cleveland, Indiana, Sacramento, Orlando and Golden State. What other team is set up to do that with without 2 of its 3 best players?
Here is a minute of IQ greatness for y'all to wake up to. Let's track everything he does:
1) 30 foot 3
2) Show on Tatum+recovery on Smart (hands high)
3) 1v2 close-out vs Williams+Smart
4) Stunt on Horford+recovery on Smart
5) Slam dunk
This was his 30th straight minute played.
Reminder: the Knicks got heat for choosing to give up nothing to sign Jalen Brunson rather than give up multiple firsts for Dejounte Murray. Some of it from their own fans. No other franchise inspires the level of delusion and blind negativity that the Knicks do.
This has nothing to do with the roster & everything to do with the franchise. If a team top 10 in net rating with an avg rotation age of <25 “isn’t even close” then 25/30 aren’t close. Replace Knicks with Pelicans & they’d be media darlings. Too much $ in clowning on the Knicks.
Kenny Smith on the Knicks: “They’re probably another piece away from trying to be an elite team”
Charles Barkley: “LeBron, Giannis, KD…They’re not even close Kenny”
Everybody saw this Deuce McBride contest and tough finish through contact on the fast break.
How many people noticed the Julius Randle STUNT AND RECOVER that preceded it? Flying around like he's Immanuel Quickley in a preseason game?? I could cry.
OG Anunoby said he wanted more initiation opportunities in Toronto. The Knicks don’t have him running offense but they have expanded his role as a secondary creator and he’s answered the call. He’s been fantastic again today. I love Thibs’ decision to put him on Embiid as well.
People will hate this, and maybe rightfully so, but if Julius Randle did what Jalen Brunson did tonight (hijack the offense, took it out of the hands of by far the best player to try and draw fouls) he’d get crushed for the next 48 hours.
Maybe something to keep in perspective?
OG Anunoby is really good, probably underrated by Knicks fans. He’s a *perfect* fit between Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle. From the Knicks perspective here are two things that need to happen:
1) Grimes back in the SL immediately (more usage available now)
2) OG is the backup 4
Jalen Brunson getting his first selection is awesome, but don’t sleep on Julius Randle making his third in five seasons. He’s building quite the resume for his legacy in New York.
I’m sorry, the lengths people go to defend Randle are unbelievable to me. Did anyone actually watch that game? This is clearly his team. He shoots whenever he wants. He doesn’t give any effort on defense (except when isolated against KD because he’s the ultimate main character).
It’s been subtle, but the Deuce McBride leap is real. We need to start giving him run next to Brunson both to spell Donte’s minutes-load & to expand Deuce’s role. He’s not a natural initiator but he does so many other things well (including guard up), he deserves to be out there.
IDK if it's objectively the BEST game of his career (there's a legit argument if you give a boost given the circumstances), but that's the most self-aware game of RJ Barrett's career. To impact the game like that taking only 12 shots. So many potential/hockey ASTs+great defense.
I’d be surprised if many watch more NBA than me, and I’m the last person to play the ref card (seriously Knicks fans hate how often I bring up the good whistle they get)…that’s the widest whistle discrepancy I’ve seen in a game all season. Absolutely zero end to end consistency.
🧵My Knicks off-season plan:
1) Re-sign OG and IHart
2) Look for trades that don’t compromise roles or depth
3) Use draft picks if no trades
Brunson/Donte/OG/Randle/IHart with Deuce/Hart/Bojan/Mitch/Burks/Precious IS enough. They were brutally unlucky with injuries this year.
Did y'all notice this from Obi/Thibs? Obi plays perhaps the best defensive shift of his young career, but watch how Thibs' trust in him grows in real time and he adjusts his scheme accordingly.
(Analysis below 👇👇👇)
Jarrett Allen has always been cool with me. Seems 100% about ball, no nonsense. Not surprising that he is the one paying actual respect to his opponents and looking inward for solutions.
Jarrett Allen is asked why the Cavaliers struggled to defensive rebound in Game 1:
"Mitchell Robinson. One of the best, if not the best, offensive rebounders in the league. Josh Hart, too."
Gotta be honest, Scottie Barnes flailing flopping and talking shit all game only to miss a FT and then get yoked on to blow a game in regulation is the most Scottie Barnes thing ever.
The Celtics made one single substitution the entire third quarter of a game they apparently don’t care about…and watched as Jalen Brunson dismantled their “indifferent” starters so badly Joe Mazzula waved the white flag.
This is another Boston Massacre.
I guess I’m in the minority. We’ve been kicking and screaming for RJ to make it so his impact isn’t so dependent on the volatility of his shooting. He finally plays a game (in game 1 of the playoffs!) where he makes good reads and plays good defense and it’s “but his shooting!”??
Steve Popper Newsday: “All indications are…Brunson’s willing to sign a 4-year, $156 million contract extension…provide 5 more years of certainty in New York, rather than waiting until next summer for a 5-year, $270 million extension”
The Knicks will still be a threat to win 1-2 playoff series with a healthy OG Anunoby, but this could be one of the all-time what if teams. 12-2 +15.1 Net in January with a healthy core. Hopefully the league doesn’t change too much this summer and they get a real go next season.
BREAKING: After two months of rehabilitation to attempt a return to the New York Knicks, All-NBA forward Julius Randle will undergo season-ending right shoulder surgery, sources tell ESPN.
There's too much negativity for me ATM. Did people really expect the Knicks to go into Cleveland, the team with the 2nd best net rating in the NBA, and dominate? I'm taking a break til Friday to recharge mentally, but I wanna leave y'all with a positive thought about each Knick:
Jalen Brunson having one (1) bad FIBA game really shined a light on NBA Twitter’s desperation to shit on anything Knicks. If the franchise is as pathetic as y’all claim what’s the obsession with punching down? Oh there’s no logic to it and it’s just blind hate? Got it, carry on!
In the last 3 drafts they’ve taken Obi, IQ, Grimes, Deuce, Rokas, Sims, Keels, acquired a FRP that became Cam Reddish and, somehow despite doing all of that, increased their future draft capital. Yet this is how choose you spin it?
3 drafts under Leon Rose:
Draft 1: took a backup at 8
Draft 2: traded out of 19, team’s 1st pick
Draft 3: traded out of draft
If you believe in building through the draft, Leon is not your guy
Y'all are witnessing a LEAP from Deuce McBride. He's not just an on-ball bull anymore, he's a hawk off it too. Oh ya he's shooting 41% from 3 and being trusted by Thibs to execute multiple roles offensively.
Let’s recap RJs game:
-36 pts on 28 shots
-dunk over AD down 5 w 1 min left
-game tying 3 w 10 sec left
-played 50 min, many guarding LBJ
-100% of his mins came with poor spacing due to paint-bound bigs+limited shooting
Yet some guy is all “ya but his eFG%!”. This is analysis?
I said it after games 3 and 4, I’ll say it again: that was the best game of RJ Barrett’s career. It blew games 3+4 out of the water. He took the defense from the first 4 games and combined it with game 3’s elite processing & game 4’s aggression. He put it all together. So proud.
"I think Immanuel Quickley is probably not a PG, so we should start Alec Burks at PG who is definitely not a PG." continues to make zero sense.
If you want Kemba to start when he comes back, I wouldn't begrudge you. But Burks over Quickley is getting more and more indefensible.
If there’s one thing you should learn covering a Thibs-coached team, it’s that you don’t need to shoot well to play well. Quickley’s defense has been vital to the team’s success this series.
IQ +41
IHart +23
Brunson +21
NYK +16
Obi +14
Grimes +9
Randle +2
RJ -3
Hart -6
Mitch -7
Not accurate. The players they would’ve traded for Mitchell are not the reason the Knicks lead this series. Those players are either not playing (Fournier) or struggling (Quickley, Grimes).
In Bleacher Report’s article titled “What Offers Would Get Philadelphia 76ers to Trade Joel Embiid?,” here is the offer they proposed for the Knicks.
Thoughts?
Who wants more?
Immanuel Quickley and Cam Reddish continued their defensive excellence yesterday. At a glance it was impressive, but zoomed in it was somehow even better. Here is a thread on the Knicks' 2 best two-way players' performance last night against the Utah Jazz: 👇👇
That was one of my favorite Julius Randle performances of the season so it makes perfect sense that he capped it off with a classy tribute to his former teammates. Awesome stuff.
I hope NBA fans watch these events and see how little respect past generations have for these players. Reggie sitting here laughing, not bothering to learn how pronounce names. Compare it to the NFL where the analysis is in depth and there’s nothing but admiration for the talent.
This is gonna age beautifully btw
He’s an on-ball menace but some of the off-ball stuff tonight moved me. Hoping this means he’s the back-up PG and not M*lachi
New York Knicks guard Miles McBride has agreed on a three-year, $13 million contract extension, Mark Bartelstein and Andy Shiffman of
@PrioritySports
tell ESPN. McBride was the 36th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.
I’m not sure there are many out there (Knicks fans or non-Knicks fans), who truly appreciate how good this Knicks team should be expected to be when healthy. They were dominant before the OG/Randle injuries destroying almost everyone in their path. IMO it’s:
Boston
Denver
NYK
IQ/Grimes is the optimal backcourt next to RJ/Randle. It’s certain at this point. Of the guards in the rotation they’re the 2;
-best defenders
-best shooters
-best & most willing screeners
-hardest workers
-most capable of providing +value with low USG
WTF are we waiting for??
In its two minute report, the NBA says Brook Lopez should’ve been called for an offensive foul for this screen. No takebacks but it might’ve changed the game.
People keep asking me about the Quickley about this all;
Quickley was a guy who, at every turn, the Knicks actively seeked to suppress. Every year there was a different reason to cap his minutes and role. Every year he persevered. It's baffling to me he wasn't universally loved.
Here are my game 5 (and beyond) solutions;
1) Get OG back. He is paramount to the team's ceiling
2) Nuke the Precious PF minutes, start with IHart on Siakam and JHart on Turner
3) Lean on the Donte weakside p&r more
4) Get into offense earlier (and run more)
5) Attack Haliburton
