For some time, Mason Mount has been identified as a flat-track bully...
The 2021-22 season saw him take this def'n to the next level:
๐ 4 G + 2 A vs NOR
๐ 1 G + 1 A vs WAT
๐ 2 G + 1 A vs LEE
๐ 2 G + 1 A vs SOU
(Season totals of 11 G + 10 A)
โน๏ธ 2 assists vs ARS and one vs TOT were the only GIs he had vs the top 6 sides in the PL last season
Looking back at the last few seasons, we can see why he's gained this reputation.
The below chart shows xPts and Pts per 90 versus opposition categorized by strength (1=easier opposition, 4=tougher opposition)
As a Mount owner myself, the first two GWs have been undoubtedly frustrating. Getting something from the TOT game was always going to be tough but the EVE game was a tough watch.
A combined 0.3 npxG+xA is not what we signed up for, right?
Fellow Mason Mount owners - take solace in the fact that if Sterling looks up and makes the pass in this situation, we're looking at 5 pts + potential bonus pts. This won't show up in any xStats either. ๐ตโ๐ซ
Further, let's get back to the point about him being a flat-track bully.
CHE's next 3 fixtures are ๐ฅ:
๐ Leeds away
๐ Leicester @ home
๐ Southampton away
Those are the 2nd, 4th and 6th-worst DEFs from an xGA perspective from last season. ๐

Chelsea has the easiest fixtures for attack over the next four gameweeks.
Will this affect your transfer targets?

LEE, LEI and SOU take up 3 of the bottom 4 spots for DEF ranking (xCS GW3-8) based on
@FPL_Chase
's latest rankings ... and the CHE attack has projected goals of 2.0-2.3 each of the next 4 GWs.
Buying Mount and selling him after two GWs (one of which was against a tough opponent) makes little sense to me ๐คทโโ๏ธ especially considering the opponents CHE has next.
These are the fixtures we bought him for!!
If you've enjoyed reading this thread, I'd appreciate a like/RT. ๐ โป๏ธ
I'll personally be holding Mason for another GW at least ... fellow MM owners, what are you thinking? ๐ค๐ค
@FplMfdoom
Very nice thread, Doom! Iโm a bit concerned that heโs more to the left, more away from goal. Heatmaps shows for the two first games that Sterling is a bit more central and forward, Mount a bit more to the left and deeper. New role? What do you think?
@stiandenstad
Could be, I am sure there is a learning curve with the front 3 of Kai, Raz and Mount. I thought he played more to the right vs EVE from what I saw. Either way, I think it's clear he's one of the 3 main attackers in the side (well + Reece of course, who is a beast)
@FplMfdoom
In terms of FPL points yes but not as a player just to defend him. He often plays a different role/position in big games e.g. spurs game last week where he played a more central midfield role to give control to chelsea, he was great and they dominated the midfield area.
