The economy isn't an abstract thing - it is comprised of those who build, create, own, sell, buy, trade, consume and use not for its own sake but in order to live. It is the interdependent and mutually-enriching activity of persons.
A suffering economy = suffering people.
Prayers for Pope Benedict XVI on his journey to the Father's house. I took these photos on his visit to the US in 2008.

'Twas the night before the night before Christmas, when all through the Church, last-minute penitents were left in the lurch.
"The service was last week - all the souls shriven. You waited too long - you can't be forgiven!"
J/K Jesus loves you and I'll hear your confession.
IDEA: Everyone gets one of these. Automatic social distancing and face covering. The air flow inside will keep the COVID away. Boom. We're back to school, work, and church.

keep praying for Ally Winkert who is still in very serious condition in the hospital due to a car accident earlier this week. Ally needs a miracle!
On the Memorial of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, we entrust to her care our loved ones and those who are sick, lonely or hurting. (Pray for them by name). Help all of us, Holy Mother, to bear our burdens and to be filled with the graces of your Son and the peace only He can give.
Last night, 30 students, parents, faculty, and campus ministry staff
@PaulVICatholic
began our pilgrimage to Rome. Here’s a photo of our approach to Paris. Many more to follow! We’re praying for you!
I'm giving a talk Monday night for Theology on Tap in Fairfax. "Why I Cancelled Netflix" is the title. Other possible titles: "I deleted my Facebook account, too" and "Get off my lawn!"
The Auld Sheeben at 7:30 PM.
I heard about a great way to live Lent - Give up, take up, lift up, and make up.
Give up something - make a sacrifice
Take up something edifying for Lent - Daily Mass, for example
Lift up someone in prayer each day
Make up - be reconciled to God and to each other
Family came to

this morning for Mass and we had epic brunch at Bonnie Blue! Time to go back and hit the sin bin! Thanks for the best surprise of seeing you

It's amazing the lengths we are going to stop the spread of the coronavirus. What would we do if we were this fearful of the infection of sin and the sickness in our souls? Jesus is not only the Divine Physician - he is the cure!

Laetare Sunday! Rocking the rose at the portable altar in my room. The postcard is from Ars, France. It is a small painting that St. John Vainney kept in his confessional.
We
@PaulVICatholic
are working hard for the chapel dedication on June 23. Here's the view as it is today. When more of the treasures are in place, the altar will be consecrated by
@BishopBurbidge
. Then, the greatest treasure of all will be at home in the tabernacle: Jesus.
Today I graduate from

This may have been what was said but there are no indications that this is what
@BishopBurbidge
intends. Zero! Can we, in charity, give him some time and prayer to discern the will of God? He is a loving shepherd and cares for all the people of the diocese!
A thought on privilege: We may do much more to heal our nation to stop talking about privilege and speak about blessings instead. You can't share privilege as it is presently understood. You CAN share blessings.
The paintings are a gift of Betsy Farr, an artist who lives in Manassas, Virginia. She is making seven more paintings for us to fill the alcoves! She is pictured here with
@BishopBurbidge
and her beautiful painting of St. Paul VI!
The story of Muffin Bear is a great pro-life story!

came to visit

Riot (noun) 1. A violent disturbance of the peace by a crowd. 2. An impressively large or varied display of something.
How about a Rosary riot today for an end to the violence that has spread throughout our cities?

Today I start teaching a class in the Catholic School Leadership Program at Marymount University. It's all online this summer. Please pray for my students! 🤣
I'd appreciate prayers for our students
@PaulVICatholic
who have their retreats this week and next. It's all different in the days of COVID-19 - no overnight trips, no bus rides, no trays of homemade cookies. God will do His good work! We have great speakers and mentors!
Here's the new normal for Confession
@PaulVICatholic
: I'm available every school day. Just come in, close the door, push the button, the bell will ring and I'll come running!

A view of the chapel today. Our students
@PaulVICatholic
came this weekend in shifts to clear out their lockers. We're counting down the days to the end of the school year, but think - we're also counting down the days until we'll all be together again.
Today is the anniversary of my ordination. I can’t think of any better way to spend it than being a priest for the
@PaulVICatholic
mission team and the good people here! 14 years down, forever to go! Jesus, make me a priest after your Sacred Heart!
"There is no evil to be faced that Christ does not face with us. There is no enemy that Christ has not already conquered. There is no cross to bear that Christ has not already borne for us, and does not now bear with us." - St. Pope John Paul II
I'm too hot outside but I'm afraid that if I for cold weather we'll have a repeat of what happened when I prayed for snow days in March. All I wanted was a day or so off school. We got a pandemic. If I pray for cooler weather we'll probably get another ice age.
