100% still flabbergasting that it is somehow controversial to say that anaesthesia should only be provided by doctors who have intensive training as outlined by the RCOA itself. How on earth has that standard changed without due consideration, research and debate. Insanity
I predict that we will be having similar discussions in the next few years here in the UK if the expansion of medical allied professionals takes place as planned. Scope creep will occur.
The shape of things to come:
Discussion of scope of practice today in US Congress.
- CRNA at 27min 21s .
- MD from the ASA at 37min 20s.
This is the USA in 2023. A stark warning of where we are headed in the UK.

It is a bit odd that a college whose paying members are all physician anaesthetists is actively promoting an agenda which will result in non physician delivery anaesthesia. If physician delivered anaesthesia is the gold standard why would we seek to erode it?

Exactly. I just don't get it. Especially after 20 years of pushing very high standards for the provision of Anaesthesia. It is almost as if
@RCoANews
have turned around and said, nah the FRCA and competencies were all just for nothing... you don't even need to be a doc to do it!
