Sir Geoff Palmer OBE has been appointed as independent chair to lead the Edinburgh Slavery and Colonialism Legacy Review Group.
The Group will review features such as statues and street names in the city which commemorate those with close links to slavery.
Temporary signs containing the agreed wording for the new plaque at Melville Monument have been installed earlier today. They will be in place whilst the permanent plaque is created.

We’re officially reopening the Innocent Railway path tomorrow after it was closed earlier this year due to some rockfall in Holyrood Park. Engineers have assessed the area and confirmed it’s secure, so people travelling by foot, wheel or bike can use it safely again

We’ve been working round the clock this weekend to clear roads and pavements with all of our gritters and mini tractors salting and ploughing routes, plus extra staff shovelling and refilling grit bins with more than 26 tonnes of salt so far!
