S and P up about 7% today so far, just as I predicted. I told my son it would either go up or down today in the aftermath of yesterday's big drop. Feeling vindicated!

You could call this naive. Or something else. But whatever you call it, it’s a horrible example of what is wrong with political discourse today. My side is a group of angels. The other side is a group of devils.

America under a Sanders presidency would still be America, both because Sanders is an infinitely better man than Trump and because the Democratic Party wouldn't enable abuse of power the way Republicans have 2/

Walter Williams has died. He was a wonderful teacher and unflinchingly honest. I respected him greatly. He was an early guest on EconTalk in what was the 22nd episode...

Note to all the interesting people with skills and knowledge who I follow here. I’m just not that interested in your hatred, disdain, or dislike for particular politicians. Not what I came for. I mean congrats for having the right views and all that but teach me something, please

There is a lot of talk about how after this virus passes, whenever that may be, we have to "build a better world." This was a theme in a number of mock commencement addresses that the @WSJ collected in yesterday's edition. There is a temptation to dismiss this as an 1/n

I am agnostic on whether CEOs are overpaid but to imply that inequality impoverishes workers is not true. The conflation of inequality with suffering is simply not logical.

Every time this number ticks up, millions of workers are impoverished. What will you do to help reverse this epidemic? #FightFor15

It's a terrible idea to negotiate with Hamas for the return of the hostages. The incentives are very ugly. This deal rewards unspeakable cruelty and creates rewards for doing it again. BUT. As much as my head knows this, my heart rejoices that dozens of people are coming home 1/

It makes me sad that how you feel about wearing a mask in a pandemic has become a way to express our tribalism. But evidently (given how people have reacted to tweet this morning), criticizing or defending Fauci is the same thing. He's either a saint or devil. Absurd.

Lots of variety coming to EconTalk: Williams on blockchain gaming, Loury on race, Taleb on the pandemic, Kay and King on radical uncertainty, Cohen on the hot hand, Munger on education, Zimring on when police kill.

That’s because they don’t understand emergent order. In their minds, every bit of misery and despair is designed, intentional, planned. And anything good must be planned and done intentionally as well.

Easy answer to her question: you're going to use that extra money to pay your newly increased rent as the tax credit pushes up demand.

Under the Rent Relief Act, anyone who spends more than 30% of their income on rent would be eligible for a federal tax credit. What would you do with that extra money in your pocket?

The biggest conceptual flaw of economics is that it tries to leap the chasm from our consumption of stuff (supply and demand, utility functions) to our ability to flourish and lead a meaningful life. The two aren't that related. Should reduce the importance of economists. Hasn't.

1. Simply pointing out whether someone is left or right wing isn't winning the argument. 2. If a joke is good enough, it can be enjoyed by anyone. 3. It's not all about you. 4. Just because you're offended, doesn't mean you're right.

I love twitter, warts and all. Amazing content. Easily blocked haters. The ads are basically non-existent. So what's wrong with @elonmusk charging those of us who value it? And if you don't want to pay $8/mo, don't! Free country. Hoping Elon will come to EconTalk to discuss.
