Can we trust the governments, we should be able to, their job is to create and enforce laws that protect society.

To be honest, I think that the lid on the Pandora's Box of AI has been opened and cannot be closed again. Even if they introduce heavy regulations, I don't think it will be very effective because so much is open source so people will just continue to develop it anyway regardless…
