Baseball dad next to me at restaurant corrected the waitress, “he’s not playing little league, it’s SELECT”.
Don’t be douche… This lady is just trying to get through the night, she doesn’t care that you paid too much money to get your kid on some weird team.
If Mike Trout got tatted up, bleached his hair, threw on a gold chain, pimped every HR and had an affair with an Instagram model... he would be 10x more “famous” and recognizable at the mall. Maybe he’s not the problem here. Maybe we pay too much attention to assholes.
A Colorado Rockies scout came to my house in high school. He asked me where I saw myself in ten years.
I said “probably working construction and maybe have my own apartment”
I did not get drafted by the Colorado Rockies.
I never wanted kids.
I’ve eaten at all the restaurants, partied in all the cities, made millions, traveled, owned the house and the cars ...
Nothing in my life has been more fulfilling than the relationship I’m building with my 4 yr old son and it’s not even close.
A dad asked me how to keep his 10yr old’s swing locked in while on trip to Disneyland.
Told him I played pickup basketball, ate a gas station hot dog w slurpee every day & my throwing lessons were watching my Dad bomb 🏈 passes 50yds to me +my brothers.
Let your kids be kids!
After you drive a Latin teammate to a grocery store Western Union so they can send $110 of their $120 two week paycheck home to their family and then watch them pick up a $10 bag of rice to eat for the week... you completely understand the players mindset on signing these deals.
@EOF34
Is anyone talking about the race/nationality angle on the
#Albies
and
#Acuna
extensions? Seems like dif markets for Latin vs US players, from the drafts all the way up to FA. A player who feels responsible for his family might sign a contract a US player wouldn't.
Harper didn’t go deep bc some weasel reported that a guy joked about a blunder. He went deep bc he got 2 hanging sliders.
You gotta be a real dumbshit to think he hit two HR because he was mad or whatever. It’s the playoffs. Dumb story. Emotions don’t matter if you make pitches.
Funny, we need a pitch clock but if you warm up too fast between innings you have the umpire pointing at his wrist and signaling for you to slow down because the commercials aren’t over yet.
Hate to break it to you parents...but there is no amount of money or coaching that will turn your son into a big leaguer if he’s not blessed w a special amount of natural ability. Stop wasting time and $ on this crap. Youth sports are the best sports , let your kids play for fun.
Babe Ruth was an alcoholic at 12 yrs old and still hit 714 hr... You’re trying to tell me he couldn’t learn to hit 98mph with some corny baseball dad driving him around to showcases every weekend instead of wearing wooden shoes and drinking a bottle every night? Apples to oranges
Today my neighbor yelled “Eric! There’s a bear!”
I turned around and the bear was already in my yard, I was on my dock with nowhere to go.
This is the first thing that’s happened since I retired that has replicated the pressure and adrenaline of pitching in an mlb game.
I’ve seen guys get the yips so bad that they are throwing balls into the dugouts. Most out of the game and forgotten forever. It’s the darkest hole. Extremely happy for Matzek to conquer the beast and be dealing in the World Series. What a tough mfer.
My fav Chipper story is when he tore his meniscus just walking or something, had surgery, came back in about 10 days, didn’t play in any rehab games, singled + made a barehanded play in the 1st, then went deep 2nd at-bat.😂
Battle Axe had zero time for some lame ass knee injury.
Love this guy’s style!
Did not know we could do this....
I’m about to sue the Mets, the Angels, Nelson Cruz, Eric Cooper, Safeco Field, the baseball, vodka, scotch and pizza for conspiring to ruin my career.
Anybody that wants to rip a GM for spending $23 million on Donaldson better praise a GM for paying Markakis and McCann a total of $6 million this year.
It’s not cheating. I was being a dumbass. If a pitcher tips, he’s a dumbass, it’s on him.
Compare it to poker... if you have a tell, it’s on you, it’s part of the game. BUT if your opponent had a hidden camera looking at your hand? You’d probably consider that cheating.
The only time I ever stared anyone down after a strikeout... but I was staring at BMac. Steve Pearce took me deep early in the season and I couldn’t ask a question in pitchers meetings the rest of the year because McCann would turn every answer into a Steve Pearce reference.
Sick of these buzzkill nerd tools telling me how far the ball would have actually gone. Nobody goes third deck, left center at Citi field. This ball looks like 515ft, just tell me it’s 515ft and let me enjoy it.
Was watching an old highlight clip today and saw this guy in the dugout. Looked at the calendar and today marks 6 years. Check on your friends. Miss you Big Tom.
One of my favorite thing about playing a pro sport was watching guys w these wacko routines get outplayed by a teammate who showed up hungover eating an egg mcmuffin
Smoltz’ vibe is hilarious. No clue if it’s good for ratings or not, but his willingness to openly express his frustration w today’s game on national tv makes me laugh more everytime he does it.
It’s incredible how Andrelton is just on a turbo bee line to the spot where the ball is going to land while everybody else is still getting their read..
Most SS don’t even bother trying for these balls...meanwhile Simba is full speed before the broadcast can even switch cameras.
Every once in a while, when I was pitching, I would come to and start looking around at the lights, the fans, the Jumbotron etc and listen to how loud the stadium was..
For a sec I would think “What the hell am I doing out here?”
Then I would black out and start pitching again.
People seem to think AAA is just a level below MLB, my favorite quote on this subject is from Brian McCann in 2009...
“Albert Pujols isn’t playing 4A or 5A baseball, he’s playing 75A baseball”.
Not if you’re willing to go down in flames. At some point you just aim right down the middle and see what happens. Either your stuff is good enough to pitch in the league or it isn’t. Walks are usually a result of a pitcher subconsciously not wanting an answer to that question.
You don’t have to be miserable to get in shape, anybody that tells you otherwise is scamming you.
Just walk more, eat less poop food and lift weights sometimes.
If somebody tells you to do a burpee, punch them in the face.
Bc he made 3 starts at Minute Made Park last season and gave up 17 earned runs on 22 hits (7 HR) in only 10.1 innings...
Sign stealing is cute when it gets you a ring, not so much when over 20% of the runs you give up all year come in one road park.
#Braves
Cristian Pache said Ender Inciarte has been incredibly gracious with his time every year. He said he's truly appreciative of Ender's willingness as a Gold Glove winner to work with him, answer questions and help him improve.
You know how good you have to be to talk shit to a broadcaster in the middle of a game? Talk about slowing the game down mentally....This is hilarious. Would like to know how the at bat turned out.
Jonny should have won Comeback player of the year. This is the video I would show people when they asked me how nasty he was before all the surgeries. Still can’t believe he made it back from all that. Tough dude.
Andrelton Simmons Arm Strength Thread
Can’t explain how hard it is to throw 90mph like this. These are lasers. He’d be 96-97mph off the mound easy.
*When you see outfielders throw 95+, it is w benefit of 2-3 steps and a big crow hop. Simmons is 90mph if he can just set his feet
Acuña is just playing a game. Everybody tries to do it but it’s obvious when somebody is actually doing it.... This is just straight backyard baseball right here. Fun to watch.
@TeelMeAboutIt
@RealCJ10
I got tossed first and I was going to try to blow Hahn up until I heard the stuff Chipper and Bobby were saying .... HOF smack talk. The mustache did not go unaddressed. Surreal moment when two HOFers have your back like that.
I still remember in 2013 Chipper was hanging out in clubhouse and said Yelich was going to win an MVP some day. I only remember because I thought it was random and Yelich had only been up for a month. Good call Chipper.
Day off today is brutal. You play almost every day for 6 months, then once over 6 day span? Can't make excuses but not surprised Dodgers and Braves both didn't hit yesterday. Would be nice to get right back out there today at least.
My Dad offered to help me manage my signing bonus, I said no thanks and bought an Escalade immediately.... 2 years later I was asking him if I could borrow some money.
The first episode of From Phenom to the Farm, presented by
@BaseballAmerica
, is live.
I was really fortunate to be joined by
@EOF34
, who was an open book sharing the story of his career from HS to The Show.
Check it out wherever you get your podcasts!
This is why Kenley Jansen purposely balked JHey to 3rd.. Even when Heyward doesn’t have the signs, he still fakes it just to be a distraction. Catching a glimpse of this when you are pitching can distract you just enough to make a mistake over the plate. Didn’t work but good try.
Sat next to Evan Gattis on bus ride home after an 0-4 early in his rookie year...
Me: “Tough game White Bear , bounce back tomorrow”
Him: “So many high fastballs today...”
Me: “yeah, those are tough to get to”
Him very serious: “I GET THOSE”
The next day off Strasburg :
“He’s got a bat path just like Steve Pearce”
“He’s like a tall Left Handed Dominican Steve Pearce... you should pitch around him”
“Don’t throw him whatever you threw to Steve P”
“Quick hands just like Steve P”
“Thinks along with you just like Steve Pearce did”
High degree of difficulty here. The flight of this ball is a joke. Unless it’s super windy tonight, Acuña just stayed inside this pitch and sliced an inside fastball 420ft to dead center. He’s not big enough to do this. This is stupid. What a swing.
I don’t agree w this. Goal of bullpen is to stabilize as many innings as possible, you start w the 9th and work backwards. Every inning you stabilize pushes another reliever back an inning into an easier role. Easier role = more success = more confidence = better performance.
Me: “keep your eyes on my glove, step to me and finish”
My son: misses by 20ft.
Me: “forget that one, hit my glove this time”
My son: “dad, if dinosaurs did parkour would the buildings crumble?”
This where an 8yr olds head is at, crazy how many parents take this stage serious
@DOBrienATL
I fish with my son for 2-3 hours every morning and then go do a meathead workout at the gym. Nap in the afternoon. Hit some golf balls and then fish with my son until the sun goes down. Put the kids to bed and then take a gas station sex pill and chase my wife around the house.
Want to prevent cheaters from the HoF? Fine. Any player from the 2017 Astros should forever be blocked too. That will include Verlander, Altuve, McCann, etc.
