Do you know where trans and gender-variant youth report feeling safe at school? The school library.
Every student in every zip code has a right to a school library staffed by a certified school librarian. Crucial to literacy, and also to life.
If we're serious about improving literacy rates among American children we need to get serious about ensuring that every student in every zip code has access to a well-resourced school library staffed by a certified school librarian.
My child—mine, the one who lives in my house with me, somehow that child—is at Yankee Stadium to be feted as the player with the highest batting average in PSAL baseball this season. I am bursting!!!!
I am proud of who I am and what I believe. I am proud of the work all of us are doing at
@ALALibrary
to strengthen American libraries. Ours are crucial and beloved community institutions that must be protected and expanded. That is the real story here.
It is deeply distressing to see violent, threatening rhetoric directed towards books and libraries, which are vital, inclusive spaces for communities across the country. Hard-working library professionals should not fear for their safety while doing their jobs.
Thank you for this honor

This is for every author, every reader, and every library worker who insists that our stories are worth writing, reading, and sharing. So proud to be part of the LGBTQIA+ community. Love us so much!

Eight years since my father was killed in a Los Angeles crosswalk by a left-turning driver while out for a walk with one of his sisters. He would have been psyched for Ohtani coming to the Dodgers and amazed at the landscape of legal weed. Miss you, dad. <3

Every couple years I have to haul myself up to the cancer center to get my bones scanned to see if there's still enough bone in them after all the early menopause and anastrazole baloney. Took about six minutes today but somehow also took it all outta me. Solidarity, survivors!
It is really hard to get stuff done. It just takes a ton a work and there really and truly are no shortcuts. Just staggered sometimes by how much work it all is and how long it takes. Good thing you win sometimes!

Some of the most extraordinary public libraries I’ve seen are in the cities and towns, big and small, all over Iowa. From reading glasses in Ames to disaster recovery in Marion to steam carpet cleaners in Des Moines.

Hello from Westport, Connecticut! Free open town WiFi. Public library equipped with a sound studio. Free parking downtown. Well-resourced communities invest their public institutions and expand access to public goods. We should all have this.

This is a fantastic initative to allocate stable, predictable funding to some of the most important public institutions in New Mexico: rural public libraries. Wonderful to see this support for American libraries!
Senate Bill 170 would allocate $30 million to fully fund New Mexico’s existing Rural Library Endowment. "Rural libraries are not just libraries...they’re where neighbors go to meet one another, hear community news and socialize."

Something was broken, culture, system, a mix, etc. The school librarian works with every kid in the school, every teacher, knows them all. Made some spreadsheets, ran some numbers, talked to people. She just figured it out.

Are there any time restrictions on the twine balls? Like, are they "done" at some point or could you theoretically just keep twining around them until yours is the biggest one?
