Audre Lorde. Very unlike what she usually writes. She refers to Tashkent and Samarkand as “Russia” a few times (not even the Soviet Union). She feels unease and isn’t convinced by what was “sold” to her but wants to hold on to the utopian myth, which was far from reality

@DurdiyevaSelbi Thanks for highlighting this "mythic representation of ... socialism," so common among my old New Leftie comrades. So painful to read from Audre Lorde, but important to note. Wish she had followed yr advice to not speak about any country in which she could not name 10 cities.

@23ManyStories I think it wasn’t me who gave that advice but true 😊 She feels unease and she did ask good questions, at least seeing it with her own eyes made her question her preconceptions
