The pooled sensitivity of CSF AFB smear for TBM diagnosis was 8% (95%CI 3–21) in our recent work.

Happy to share our recent work summarizing the evidence on AFB smear for TB meningitis. In most settings it's not great (some exceptions in expert hands), better off saving the CSF for other tests.

This is quite low! Just when I thought we were already doing very well with TB diagnostics.
