I've had power to fire employees for 14 years in my career. In that time, I've never fired anyone for forgetting a pencil, taking too many restroom breaks, not signing name on required form, submitting transcripts a day late... We shouldn't obsess over these for students either.

More important than content is simply making sure kids are OK. Families should feel no pressure to get content covered. They should keep kids safe & unafraid while schools see that parents facing illness or job loss don't feel overwhelmed by school expectations.

Because of impending storm, Nordonia Schools will be closed for all students tomorrow, 2/16/21. Option 1 & Option 2 students should read a book, play outside, and help their parents around the house. I am currently in board meeting. All-call will come later.

When I was growing up in the 1970s, Akron Schools superintendent Conrad Ott would put his dog outside on snowy mornings. If his dog could walk, school was open. If the dog got stuck, it was a snow day. Nordonia students, meet Frankie, your snow day guru.

Schools are social service organizations that also happen to educate kids. With no science or art classes going on in our buildings, the senior centers can use our latex gloves and disinfectant wipes more than we can.

And here it is...congratulations James Hayes for winning comeback athlete of the year! James suffered a stroke during a cross country meet in August, losing some speech and walking ability. In March he ran in a track meet. Amazing recovery!

The Nordonia Schools will be closed Monday, March 16 through Tuesday, April 14. Students will return April 15. Teachers will report on Friday, March 13 and Tuesday April 14. ALL school events will be canceled/postponed during this time. More information will come later.

On the first day of school, kids aren’t concerned with how to head their papers or how many notebooks they’re going to need. They want to know that the classroom will be safe, that the teacher cares, and that the course will be meaningful.

The Nordonia Schools will be CLOSED Tuesday, January 22, 2019. Police and road crew dispatch urged caution. Additional squalls have left most side streets still snow covered. De-icer hasn't worked due to cold temps. Transportation would be very delayed and unsafe. Kids, read!

Seriously, though... 1. We make decision to close/delay by 6 a.m. If roads/forecast are fine, buses roll. 2. If it gets bad after buses roll, you have right to make decision that is best for your child's safety. 3. In snowy weather leave early, slow down, take longer to brake
