It's interesting (and maddening) that for ALL the worry about communities of color being hesitant about receiving the COVID vaccine, what I am mostly hearing are stories of people wanting the vaccine but not being able to ACCESS it in their community.
With SO many people newly paying attention to inequities in kidney disease, I feel like we should launch a new slogan this
#NationalKidneyMonth
"
#KidneyHealthEquity
: Come for the GFR estimation, (please) STAY for the full dismantling of structural racism"
Thank you health equity icon

Its been said that “The meaning of life is to find your gift; the purpose of life is to give it away.” So happy you found your gift of storytelling, and we are all the better as we receive it.
So much poetry in this

💔Very sorry to hear. One student in a class I taught in virtually recently, had her name phonetically spelled out on the virtual platform, i.e. Deidra Crews [pronounced Dee-DRAH Cruise]. I found that to be a clever 'nudge'.
My inner science geek is loving this rocket launch. 🚀 Makes me feel so hopeful for what humankind can achieve when we work together towards a common goal.
Lets make one of those goals the eradication of racism.
This Impeachment Trial proves that there is NOTHING more motivating than the threat of losing political power, not even when the defendant literally sent a violent mob to attack those who would later vote to acquit him. Quite remarkable.
I stand in solidarity with all those who have shared their experiences being

towers. Hope many read the thread and that it increases understanding and empathy— both desparately needed today.
Saw person w/ ESKD n hospital 2day who was prepping 4 AVF surgery & had ?s like “Will it hurt? & “Do I need it?” Bf I could respond, person dialyzing next 2 them chimed in w/ “You should get it done. So much better than a catheter. You will be ok.”
Be excellent to one another.
Calling all future nephrologists and budding kidney researchers! The application cycle for

Kidney STARS is now open! Due Aug 9th. Must be an ASN member, but you can join for free as a trainee.
What an unbelievable 24 hours. I hope all recover soon. My only other hope is that this complete 'mess' will serve as a 'message' to all, that while our systems and institutions may, this virus does not discriminate. We are ALL at risk. Wear a mask.
As this trying yr comes to a close, I am reflecting on lessons from 2020 that I hope we take into 2021:
1-we are inextricably linked
2-we need each other far more than we do ‘things’
3-a common enemy gives rise to ingenuity & collaboration
Let us make that 'enemy' injustice

You’re welcome.
