2 sessions on writing at masters level with the PGCE Students yesterday. Asked them to critique a previous masters assignment to help them. The comments below reflect their feedback. Told them afterwards it was one of my assignments from 17 years ago. Ouch. A humbling experience.
[5 Minute Read] What are your knowledge and beliefs around physical education? What is PE’s purpose? I know that over the years my knowledge and beliefs around many aspects of PE have radically changed.
@afPE_PE
@RyanSporting
@mimsdavies
Confused/concerned about the notion of “school sport.” When did it replace physical education? Isn’t there a danger that it becomes the reason not to modernise the subject & continue the focus on team games? Why not talk about increasing excellent learning in physical education?
Absolutely delighted to see the third book in the Routledge Focus on Sport Pedagogy series in print. A fantastic group of authors and editors to work with and much to be learnt about
@meaningfulPE

@javier_rio1
has just been published - Cooperative Learning and the Affective Domain Check out the whole special issue on Cooperative Learning
It’s been at least 6 months since I’ve even tried this but after a winter in the garage and away from the gym I’ve still got a muscle up in me...(and this was at the end of my first outdoor session) - good luck to you in your physical goals.
If “the ultimate purpose of physical education...is the promotion of ongoing active lifestyles and lifelong participation in sport and physical activity” then surely there is a strong case for a wholesale change in focus.
[New Paper] Huge congratulations to
#ZhenlongWang
on his first peer reviewed publication. Well done and thanks to
@EdCope1
for leading the support writing team.
Seems only right to celebrate my first paper to surpass 10,000 reads. Very happy with this. Thanks to
@AnnMacPhail1
for coauthoring this paper with me and
@sport_pedagogy
for publishing. Adopting a models-based approach to teaching physical education
[5 Minute Read] I often question what we do in the name of PE. Not because being a good games player or an elite performer is a bad thing - far from it - but because it is not the only thing that someone might be either physically good at or aspire to.
⛔️ We’ve been self-isolating for 5 days as my wife & son have had COVID (confirmed by PCR tests). My daughter & me have no symptoms. As part of the easing of lockdown I took the suggested PCR test and it came back positive. 😳Please be careful and cautious. 10 more days for me ✔️
[7 Minute read] While the purpose of PE was unclear, the girls’ feelings about it weren’t. They were critical of the PE offered in their schools – especially the choice of activities offered, the teachers, and mixed classes.
[6 Minute Read] One of the repeated criticisms of the school PE is that it focuses on games. It also produces games players, with games knowledge who are – if they become teachers – good at teaching games. The question is…how do we change that?
Delighted to be at the

Spent 3 hours this afternoon in the university library reading through twenty years of JTPE. Having the journals in my hand and reading edition after edition...seeing the names appear over the decades and the field reveal itself was a joy. You don’t get that with online journals.
Eleven years today I joined Twitter. I never imagined the impact it would have and the people I would meet. Thanks to everyone who’s been part of that learning journey.
[6 minute read] What are the purposes of physical education and school sport? Have you ever written them down? I think it would be interesting to compare our beliefs – both between one another and across time - and see how they differ in both instances.
