Call me nostalgic, but I miss the days when TV & News presenters, celebrities, & pundits, just presented their shows, or just read the news, or talked about sport...
I really dont need to know their politics, nor do I need them to persuade me how to vote.
Might be just me!
@DonnaDlm71
Nope not just you, me too. Since covid, ive unfollowed and blocked a number of celebs due to their constant 'campaigning'. Said before an opinion is one thing, but when its as constant as some of them are, it becomes more than sharing an option
@DonnaDlm71
Don't agree with you to be honest Donna, he had the right to say what he felt, and I haven't always agreed with what he says. Pretty certain if he had turned round and said the exact opposite, all these people asking for his head would have said nothing, and that speaks volumes.
@CheChe_Guevara
I dont dispute his 'right' to say it. He can say what he wants. But having a right to say it, and it being right to say it, are two very different things.
For me anyway.
@DonnaDlm71
Personally, I don’t mind them talking politics however I do object to people like Lineker and Gary Neville being so bloody hypocritical. They talk about the UK government and their policies but are very quick to work for broadcasters that are mouth pieces for Qatar.
@DonnaDlm71
They didn’t have a such a huge social media platform in the ‘old days’.
I don’t agree with much that ‘celebrities’ choose to tweet but support their right to voice it - however misguided.
@DonnaDlm71
I take your point, but it is the public who have given them their public persona and thus effectively depriving them from expressing personal opinion in public. I don’t think that is right.
There are also times when things need calling out in public.
@slpalmerwalker
Like is say, he has a right, as does everyone to say what they want.
Whether its right to say it, is a judgement call.
In this case his.
@DonnaDlm71
But he was speaking on his personal twitter account as you do and make comment on things in your life. He wasn’t saying it on his show or in an official capacity. So I’m not sure the issue here. If you watched MOTD he wouldn’t have said any of this 🤷🏼♂️
@FUBSbornAGAIN
But he is intrinsically linked with the BBC & he's a public figure.
This is where the issue is. Boundaries are blurred. And thats why its a judgement call in his position, with consequences.
