Dir. of Broadcast Services Emeritus JMU Athletics... All-sports coverage/voice ๐คof the Dukes season

... Valley League โพ๏ธ Hall of Fame... Opinions are my own
I've never felt emotional about the AP Top 25 Football Poll, until today.
Knowing and telling the story of this program for 35 years and the people who have brought this school to this historical time is incredible. This fits my definition of awesome.
Just take a moment and realize/appreciate what this team has accomplished with no ultimate goal and no finish line other than 1-0 each week. Built to win championships even when there isnโt a title to be won. Theyโve done it twice! If this has been fun, just imagine โ24.
I've been covering JMU sports for 36 seasons, seen the bulk of its NCAA history. It is more than remarkable, that each week, more like every three days, something historical happens with this program. Volleyball at-large and seeded into the NCAA tournament the latest.
A historically defining day in the history of James Madison University, and it goes far beyond Athletics. Patience, planning, and hard work returns great rewards. Congrats to Jonathan Alger, Charlie King, Jeff Bourne and other university leaders AND to the Proud & True supporters
Incredibly humbled and overwhelmed with todayโs personal event. Itโs been a career-long pleasure. I sincerely appreciate the next opportunity and very much look forward to enriching the JMU experience for the student-athletes and the JMU Nation. Thanks for your kindness.
Congratulations are in order for
@CurtDudley
as he retires from his full time role at JMU!
Although he leaves that role, we are excited to have him continue broadcasting for us and all of JMU Nation.
Thank you Curt for your many years of service!

This photo tells you a lot about Coach Chesney. He sat down Thursday evening at O'Neill's Grill for a one-on-one interview with a local youngster during a meet and greet. A mutually beneficial experience for both, and he spent quality time with a good number of JMU fans.
Let's see so far:
Women's Soccer - plays for Sun Belt title
Men's Soccer - plays for Sun Belt Title
Volleyball - regular-season Sun Belt Champs
Football with "bowl eligible" six wins.
I'd say the transition is going well.
When referring to the historical significance of today, I canโt help but think of JMU visionaries Dr. Ron Carrier, Mr. Dean Ehlers and Coach Challace McMillin. They would all be JMU proud.
In the last two JMU football games Iโve attended, the Dukes were upset in wild fashion.
First, JMU lost as a 30-40 point favorite to Elon.
Most recently, JMU threw 5 INTs in a playoff loss to Colgate.
JMU fans: I plan on attending tomorrow, and I may be cursed.
Blending brands of ESPN, SBC & JMU is a win-win-win, IMO. At JMU, we've been working hard since 2007 to bring quality live productions of homes games in all sports. Now, more people will see those productions, and the work of many contributors. The platform makes a difference.
Postgame Cignetti:
"We are not into making excuses here, we did not play well on offense for three quarters and App played very well. This was a winnable game, I'm disappointed. When you are 10-0 and loose, it is going to sting."
As JMU today becomes a full-fledged member of the Sun Belt Conference, a very high percentage of my live production work will be on ESPN+. Working out the scheduling details and looking forward to another year with the Dukes.
To the
@JMUFootball
seniors. Thank you for all the wins you've provided during your careers. You represented the JMU Nation well and helped to set the edge for the culture of JMU football as it moves into its next chapter.

What began in โ07-08 as MadiZONE has evolved and is soon to be on ESPN+. Personally thrilled JMU fans will get to see the Dukes on this sports leader. Equally honored to remain a part of the broadcast crew.
I watched tonight from my seats at the Atlantic Union Bank Center, saw a number of "seasoned" JMU fans nearly hurt themselves in excitement, me included! Might have a few aches tomorrow.
Congrats to Coach Lauren Steinbrecher on putting together an outstanding schedule and the Dukes delivering on the court. The strategy paid off. First at-large bid in the JMU volleyball program's history.
JMU is the first to go 6-0 while transitioning from FCS to FBS. In the future weโd be saying the Dukes are bowl eligible, but this year weโll just wait and see.
How about these

Good Luck in the NCAA Tournament.

Dukes snap Kent State's homecourt win streak of 23 games.
Dukes return with a 2-0 record and play home opener on Sunday at 4pm vs. Howard.
My first assignment for the Dukes was 30 years ago today. The Diamond Dukes opened their season by sweeping a DH at Long Field/Mauck Stadium against West Virginia, 12-4 and 5-2. It still continues to be a good gig!
Record 26,000 on the JMU Quad for College GameDay.
25,838 fans at Bridgeforth Stadium today
Season-record average of 25,372
On behalf of the Dukes, thank you JMU Nation.
Also, good to see those I did in person on campus, at tailgates, and at the games all season long.
A recent surge past 8K followers. Me thinks some successful Dukes have a bit to do with this. Thanks for the lift and let's keep the ride going.
The phenomenon of "compounding success" is quite an experience.
Thatโs a wrap on the 2020-21 JMU sports season for yours truly in the broadcast booth with the Dukes. Looking forward to getting down to Wilmington, NC, to help with play-by-play of CAA baseball tournament next week.
For now, good night from Veterans Memorial Park.
Let me say, it was quite the challenge to focus on my broadcast of a game that was intriguing in its own right (CAA baseball c'ship), while about to burst inside knowing the

Mr. Bourne, you deserve this! A trip to March Madness is just the cherry on top of a successful 25 years.
Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to this department!

JMU football wins its second national title, claiming the FCS crown in Frisco, Texas with a 28-14 verdict against Youngstown State.
The Dukes finish the season 14-1 and undefeated against FCS foes.

Hurts at the moment, but take a deep breath and recall how fun this season was and how it will be remembered.
The last day of practice at Bridgeforth Stadium before the Dukes depart for Fort Worth. โPrepare, enjoy, execute, and embrace every minute of this experience,โ Coach Wrobo told the Dukes.
JMUโs only other menโs basketball win over a nationally-ranked team was in 1992 vs.

California. The Bears were led by Jason Kidd and coached by former JMU coach Lou Campanelli.
Congrats to this young lady, Kiki Jefferson is the newest member of JMUโs 1000-point club. More to come. Rather happy about that, humbly so, and with a win.

James Madison holds Youngstown State to 292 total yards and rolls to a 28-14 victory to capture the 2016 NCAA Division I Football Championship, the second title in program history.
Full disclosure, I routinely pull for the military academies in bowl games. Not today ๐. Lots of respect for those men and the commitments they make to class, football and military careers. Appreciate seeing AF stand behind the Dukes during the playing of JMU alma mater.
There are countless postgame handshake lines following college basketball games, but very few when Dad (Rod) greets son (Terell) in the procession. It's the first time I've witnessed it, and it was a pretty cool scenario.

โThat atmosphere was awesome, a real difference maker,โ Coach Sean OโRegan said after JMUโs 84-69 win over Virginia. โI hope they come back.โ
It is a very emotional postgame press conference as Kenny Brooks is overwhelmed by the reception of the JMU Nation! He found it very difficult to coach against his former players. He stills feels part of the program.

She has her eyes on a career in MLB, and with recent news of Kim Ng's hiring by the Florida Marlins as the first female GM in the big leagues, JMU baseball student manager Samantha Gjormand has the confidence to walk through open doors of opportunity.
As Virginia Tech's impressive baseball season comes to a close with an 11-2 loss to Oklahoma in the Blacksburg Super Regional, Virginia and JMU remain the only programs from the Commonwealth to play in the CWS.
